"Jesy, you and Jasmine are up against Naomi and Andrea." Coach Robyn instructs us.
We're at practice right now and we've started the elimination rounds for the teams.
Jas and I take our positions on one side of the court.
Nai and Andrea take their's.
"Ready? 25 points game, Naomi and Andrea start!"
The game starts and soon Jas and I are in the lead.
The score is 15 to 9.
"Come on Nai! You can do it babe!" Tyler shouts supportively from the sidelines.
How sweet.
"Jas, spike!" I warn her when the ball comes high in the air, to her side.
She spikes the ball fast and hard and Nai and Andrea aren't able to reach the ball in time.
We get the point.
"Good job!" I say, high fiving Jas while Andrea and Naomi catch their breath.
The score is soon 20- 12.
We have less than five points to go.
Throughout the match, Andrea and Naomi play fiercely and bravely.
But so do we.
In the end, we win.
The score is 25 - 16.
"Good game girls!" Coach says, writing something down on her clipboard.
"The next set of teams are: Zeke and Hailee versus Ricky and Kendra." Coach announces as I sit on the bleachers with my friends, chugging down a bottle of water.
What? I'm thirsty.
"Hey." Erick says, when I sit beside him.
"Hi." I say, smiling a bit.
Lately, I've been opening up and actually being nicer to him.
I don't even know why.
I'm never this way around anyone else except maybe Jas.
Not even Naomi and Andrea have got me to smile more around them.
I just don't warm up to people easily.
"You played really well out there." He compliments.
I smile.
"Well, I am captain." I say, shrugging.
"Now I know why. Who do you think is going to win?" He says.
"Hard to say, but my bet is on Kendra and Ricky." I say.
"Nah, I think it's going to be Hailee and Zeke." He says.
"Bet." I say, stretching my hand out and flipping my palm up.
"Bet." He says, putting his soft, warm hand into mine.
"If I win, you have to do whatever I want. If you win, we can do whatever you want." He says.
"You're on. Get ready to lose. Kenny and Ricky are going to win." I say confidently.
In the end, Zeke and Hailee won.
The score was 25 - 20.
Pretty close though.
"I won the bet." Erick says, striding up to me.
Oh no, he remembered.
There's got to be a way I can get out of this...
"I guess. What do you want?" I ask.
