SUGGESTED SONG: Moral Of The Story By Ashe

August sat at the Gryffindor table that morning. With only two weeks till Christmas Break, she was beginning to get nervous. She didn't want to go home but she knew she'd have to ask her mother.

Casually talking to Amelia Donella, a first year. The two didn't know each other very well, but seeing as they were next to one another, they conversed pretty well.  August was patiently waiting for the mail however Amelia didn't really care about the mail, she just wanted to run off and have some fun.

Placing an egg and two toast, August politely cut the bread and dipped into the egg yoke. Her politeness and respect towards herself confused other Gryffindor's, but that didn't seem to faze her.

"May I have a cup, please?" She asked the second year opposite her who gave her a cup with a smile.

Pouring apple juice into the cup because she hated pumpkin juice, she drank it before pushing the plate with her utensils away. But hearing the familiar screeches of owls, she nervously smiled before looking up. Trying to find Cupid, the family owl.

But she was shocked to see the light dark brown owl flying down quickly before landing in front of her making a small mess in the dishes in front of her. "Hello, Cupid. Lovely to see you again." August's hand softly brushed the owl's feathers before giving a piece of toast, the creature flying away in a blink of an eye.

August quickly reached towards the letter. Her mother's perfume strong off of it. She quickly opened it.

Dear August,

I am very pleased to hear about your results in your academics for this term.
However, I expect to see you at home this Christmas.
I hope you are representing your family well.

Sincerely,
Pomona Gaunt.

August couldn't help but huff in anger before ripping the paper up repeatedly. She threw the paper at the ground before picking her bag up and placing her cloak in her hands and walking out of the room in a quick pace.

Lily, Alice and Marlene yelling to the girl waiting for her to slow down, but she simply ignored the three before putting her cloak on in a fast place and held her bag before sprinting towards the Southern side of the castle.

The three girls walked towards where she was sitting and looked at the first year next to where she once sat. "What happened?" Lily asked the person.

"I don't know, she read a letter and started ripping it up. Didn't clean her mess up." Amelia said pointing at the ripped pieces of parchment.

"Let's go." Lily said to the three before walking towards the court-yard. The opposite way where August had gone.

August returned back to the common room after curfew that night. Her cheeks red, her nose pink and her hair in a messy plaid. The cloak's hood still covering her hair and face however.

She softly closed the door and entered the room, trying her best to not make her presence known to those in the common room. But the quick silence gave her presence away. Sheepishly she froze in her spot.

"Hi." A voice called out and she couldn't help but stiffen. "You know we can see you."

"Well, not everybody is invisible. Only from time to time." August whispered before straightening her back and taking a deep breath.

She spun on her heel to see the four boys she once stayed up late with sitting in the common room on her first day with. "Are you alright, August?" Remus asked her softly.

"Peachy." She said to the boy before taking a deep breath and walking towards them, "Mind if I join you all? I feel that I won't be able to sleep, yet." She said whispering to the group before looking at each boy awkwardly.

"Not at all, Sirius, move over a little." James said forcing the boy to fall off the couch. The girl giggling as she sat down and leaned into the couch. Wrapping the cloak around her tighter to make a blanket.

"So, what did you all get up to today?" August asked trying to get rid of the tension that was rising in the air.

"Oh, the usual." James said with a playful yet mischievous smirk.

"They pranked bloody Filch!" Peter said leaning forward. He was much more different than the day she met the boy, less quiet and more open. "I was their bloody escape route!"

"Well, what did you's do to the cleaner?" August said with a smile at the boys.

"We set his sleeping quarters on fire." James and Sirius said in usion. The four boys silent as they waited for her reaction. But she simply laughed. The boys quickly smiled as she leant forward holding onto her stomach, it had been a while since the boys saw her smile like that. Always keeping a stoic face or a smirk on her lips.

Only smiling if she had been with the three girls she shared dorms with.

The three boys quickly laughed when they watched her drop to her knees laughing. Her cloak wrapping around her body, but their laughter became into tears laughter when they heard her laughing yet begging for help as she was wrapped in a cocoon on the floor.

"Hmmm..." James did a fake yawn, "I'm off to bed. Been a long day." He said before standing up, "Goodnight August!"

Sirius done a similar action, leaving August begging for Peter and Remus to help her. "Come on, please, Remmy! Pete!" She said trying to break herself free.

Hearing the nicknames, the boys sighed before helping the girl up. Unwrapping her of course. "But like the boys said, it's been a long day. Goodnight, August." Peter said after she thanked him. He went to bed and she found herself sitting on the couch once again.

"You know, you should get going to sleep. We've got classes tomorrow." Remus said to the girl but she simply shrugged.

"Eh, I don't mind missing my first two. Potions and Herbology." She said with a grin, "I can manage. But thank you, Remmy."

"No worries. Goodnight, August." He said smiling at the girl before going off towards the dorm. August wrapped herself in her cloak before staring into the dancing flames. Her attention slowly shifting from the flames to the snow that was falling outside.

"The most wonderful time of year is here." August muttered to herself when Aspen climbed up and curled next to her owner.

The two of them falling asleep, August's dreams that were usually full of weird yet creative dreams, were instead tainted with nightmares.
