Snow in June

"I," was all that he could say
"I know," she answered anyway
Knew all the words he struggled to say
Knew he wanted to ask her to stay
But he also knew she wouldn't, couldn't
No matter how much he begged and tried
She would be strong, no she wouldn't cry
But even they could not stop time
Could stretch the moment, but not freeze it
Could hold on, but not keep it
"Don't go," he pleaded
Her fingers in his, too cold
His knuckles white, holding on so tight
As if that would stop the world from ending
Raindrops falling, like the sky was crying for her too
The wind howling, screaming in anger
A storm wrapping around them
Her in the middle, him just barely holding on
Finding a moment of peace in there
If only it meant anything
Just like the sun setting every evening
Storms don't last forever
And once the tornado stopped spinning
It disappeared with her within
There was silence, and then nothing
They had known the end would take her
Yet, it still caught him off guard
Knocking the air out of his lungs
As he was flung back into reality
Everything turned white suddenly
The whole world cold, so cold
As he wept for her, the sky did too
And suddenly it was snowing in June
