Chapter 29:
Last day of school for Kristy before winter break. Kristy tells her friends her decision at lunch.

Friends: you did what?!
Kristy: was I not supposed too?
Mary-Anne: why would you want to move?
Kristy: My family seems to be happy with the idea, and I feel like holding Nick and Joe back with their dream. They have put up with us living here for so long, maybe it would be good for them
Dawn: what about us? I mean I just gotten to known you
Kristy: guys I'm not leaving right after winter break. You will see me back in January, then when the school year is over it's goodbye
Stacey: Clauds, you been real quiet, what are you thinking?
Claudia: *blurts out* How can you do this?!
Kristy: *jumps surprise* huh?
Claudia: did you even think about how I would feel if you moved. Did you even consider our feelings? What are you trying to get rid of me that bad?
Kristy: what? No! Claudia, I was doing what was best for the family.
Claudia: Your family is doing just fine here. You just convinced my father's to let me stay in this school. Now you want to leave!
Kristy: look I wasn't doing Joe and Nick any favor by forcing them to live here. It's clear they would rather be somewhere else and I kind of agree with it
Claudia: why?!
Kristy: because I didn't want to be reminded of my parents okay!

It was silence between the 5 best friends.

Kristy: *sighs* look, it's not that I don't love you, it's just- everywhere I go this town is just a reminder of why I don't want to stay here. I had an opportunity to escape but I chose to stay here to be close to them.
Stacey: Kristy...
Kristy: I know lame excuse but everyone that knows my parents it's just a reminder of them being gone and they all look at me like they're waiting for me to snap at them. Plus my family has no privacy here everyone knows our business that's why Joe wanted us to live in California in a gated area where no one can bug us.
Claudia: so that's it, you made up your mind
Kristy: yeah
Claudia: well, then I'm going with you
Kristy: Clauds you can't come with me
Claudia: Why not?
Kristy: what about school?
Claudia: we can go to the same school together. Maybe Joe can convince my folks
Kristy: I mean we can try, it's a good school. Boarding school mostly, you can live on campus
Claudia: my dad's would love that! Plus my sister goes away to boarding school, so why can't I
Kristy: your sister goes away to Korean boarding school
Claudia: it's still a boarding school
Kristy: you got a point their, okay will convince our folks if you can come with us
Claudia: yay! We don't have to live apart, what if we can live on campus together!
Kristy: can't I have to commute.
Mary-Anne: so... you guys are really leaving huh
Claudia: well not officially, but I have a feeling my dads' will say yes
Stacey: we're really going to miss you guys
Dawn: group hug

The girls huddle up in a group hug.

Nick and Joe had the Turner's and Kishi over to dinner to talk about their moving situation.

Landon: let me get this straight, you want to go to a boarding school in California? Didn't you two just convince me why you wanted to stay in the current school you're in
Claudia: You see dad, the Jonas's are planning to move to California, and Kristy and I don't want to be apart. So I thought of a great idea that can make us both be happy, to go to school in California
Kristy: it's a great boarding school sir *hands him booklet*, Claudia will be living on campus their, and she can visit us anytime she wants and come home during the holidays
Sally: Are you sure it wasn't your idea Joseph?
Joe: no ma'am it was all Kristy doing. We didn't even know she was thinking about leaving
Sally: once the sudden interest in leaving Kristy?
Kristy: well... Sophie and I were talking the other day about how I felt guilty holding the boys back with their career
Andrew: not this music stuff again Joseph
Joe: not me this time sir

They all looked at Nick who avoided eye contact with his parents.

Andrew: Nicholas?
Nick: *nervous* yeah dad
Andrew: I thought you wanted to be a teacher
Nick: no dad, you wanted me to be a teacher.
Andrew: because it was all we talked about. You never showed any interest that you wanted to
Sally: well actually... Nick and I have been keeping this a secret, I actually been taking him to broadway auditions after Nick was discovered at a barber shop
Joe: What Nick, you didn't tell me that?
Nick: I didn't tell you because of how awful it went, when I auditioned the teacher their kind shape my confidence down and I basically gave up on music
Joe: I'm sorry Nick
Nick: it's okay
Andrew: Sally why would you keep this a secret from me
Nick: because I didn't want you to think I was a failure dad
Andrew: son, you're not a failure. I don't ever want you to say that again. If you feel like you have to hide something from me don't. I will understand
Nick: really?
Andrew: I don't want to be the one to stop you from chasing after your dream
Nick: thanks dad *hugs him*
Andrew: love you son, and you're not a failure. You're going to California and you're going to show those idiots that the Turner's are winners!
Nick: dad... it's the record label, not the Olympics
Andrew: right...
Claudia: Can we get back to me now. So dads' can I go?
Landon: Your dad and I will have to think about it, so will give you an answer tomorrow once we have more information from Joe.
Claudia: *sighs* o-okay
Kristy: he didn't say no tho, so we still have a chance

The two cross their pinky fingers together and put their head together smiling.
