Chapter 26: 16 Candles

Joe and Nick were hanging out at Kiawicki's diner together.

Joe: so... what are we doing for Kristy's sweet 16 this year
Nick: Kristy says she doesn't want a party, she just want a car
Joe: no way is that happening, does she have the other half of the money?
Nick: no...
Joe: Then she's not getting a car. Look my parents told me not to spoil the girls with the money I made, so she's not having a car until she gives me the other half of the money
Nick: Come on Joe, it's her birthday. Plus she's a good kid and rarely gets into trouble
Joe: I know she's a good kid, but she still has to earn it, like every normal 16 year old
Kristy: *runs into the Kiawicki's* guess what?!
Joe: what?
Kristy: I got a car!
Joe/Nick: what?!
Joe: How did you do that?
Kristy: Noah built it for me as a birthday present, isn't he the sweetest guy on earth!
Joe: does it have insurance
Kristy: what now?
Joe: does the car have insurance?
Kristy: uh...
Joe: if the car does not have insurance, you're not allowed to drive it
Nick: Is the car even safe?
Kristy: of course, Noah is a professional, he sometimes goes to his dad's shop when he visits him and works on my car. It's like he knew what I wanted, I didn't even tell him. Please Joe, can I keep it?
Joe: I have to see if the car is 100% safe
Kristy: it is
Joe: I have to see for myself Kristy, you can't just say it is. And you need to give me the money to buy the insurance
Kristy: alright got that cover *takes out wallet*
Joe: Kristy... where did you get all this money from?
Kristy: I've been saving since my first lemonade stand
Nick: Kristy you should save that for when you want to buy your own place one day. Joe will take care of the insurance
Joe: I agree with Nick, now that I see how responsible you're with your money
Kristy: really?
Joe: but it's not defiant yes, Nick and I still have to check the car first
Kristy: Of course.. Joe, thank you, thank you! *hugs him*
Nick: are you sure you don't want a party this year?
Kristy: I mean you guys could do whatever you want for me. I was just worried that we wouldn't have enough money for it
Joe: Trust me Kristy. We have enough from my music career. I've been saving all my money in case of emergency. I even have some money packed away for you and the twins college funds plus mom and dad.
Kristy: really?
Joe: yup. Everything is taken care of, you have nothing to worry about
Kristy: thanks Joe, you're the best brother ever *hugs him* thanks Nick, I know you were trying to convince him *hugs him*
Nick: of course, you're really good kid
Kristy: I can't wait until you boys see the car, I'm gonna text Noah to tell him and his dad he can send it over tomorrow for you guys to take a look at. I'll be upstairs with the twins and Sophie *grabs Joe's fries*
Joe: hey! Stop stealing people's food
Kristy: but your not just people, you're my brother, bye boys *kiss his cheek and leaves*
Nick: so... Noah
Joe: yeah... we need to have a few words with that boy about boundaries. She barely knows Kristy and got her a car? Is he stalking her every move or something
Nick: Come on dude, he has a crush on her, and she's at the perfect age to start dating
Joe: she still 15
Nick: and Friday she will be 16, and you said when the girls turned 16 is when it's okay for them to date
Joe: I know, but why this boy! Do you not know his history?
Nick: yes Joe I was there at the meeting when the headmaster told us about the new boy in school. But we can't control who she dates, her life and decision. We may not like it, but she is old enough now to know if the guy would be good enough for her
Joe: I know, I'm just...
Nick: looking after her, which is what you're supposed to do because you're her big brother. I get it Joe. Raising 3 sisters and having to deal with this is hard, but you're not alone on this man. That's why you have me to help you. I love these girls just as much as they were my own sisters.
Joe: they appreciate you too man
Nick: I know, but they will alway have your love and respect Joe
Joe: thanks Nick, for you know helping out when you didn't have too
Nick: always, you're like a brother to me
Joe: "like" you're a part of our family now. You help me out so much, you're my brother
Nick: thanks Joe
