***Hello dears! This story was partially inspired by a plot point in a book by aicamchl , called Now I'm Here (I can't say which part as that'll spoil things!)! She writes the most wonderful Queen fanfiction and is so very very talented, you should all go check out her work and give her a follow! Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this story! Much love to you all!***

Eric gave me a soft smile, putting a hand on my cheek. His fingers, calloused from years of playing drums but still so gentle against my skin, pushed my hair back, tucking it behind my ear.

"You're a wonderful woman, Y/N," he murmured.

I smiled, putting a hand on top of his, pulling it away from my face so I could give it a squeeze. "And you are a wonderful man."

Smiling, he gave me a kiss. I melted into it, lips pressing against his as his arm encircled my waist, hugging me close against him. At last, we reluctantly broke apart.

"Eric, I...I love you. I want to date you," I said, almost stunned at how forward I was being. Sure it had been three months, but even still, it was oh so bold of me to practically demand we date.

His lips twitched into a smile that wavered before he dropped my hand, looking away.

"Y/N, I love you, but I can't...I can't date you."

My heart sank. "But why not? Don't you love me?" I asked.

He frowned, as if he was turning over the idea in his mind, before he locked eyes with me.

"Y/N if...if we were to date, there's two things you need to understand. And I understand if these are a deal breaker but these are two rules I can't compromise on. If we date, you and our relationship need to be kept a secret. Not only from the press and the public, but from the band too. And you need to understand that...that it won't last forever and I'll have to break your heart someday," he said.

I blinked, looking at him. "But why?" I asked.

He winced, shaking his head. "I'm sorry. I can't tell you why. Those are the rules that you'd have to follow, it's up to you if you wish to."

I gave him a smile, kissing him. "I love you. I'm willing to follow your rules, even if I don't quite understand them."

He returned my smile and my kiss, although his eyes were still almost sad.

"Well then Y/N, I guess we're dating," he said.

I wrapped my arms around him, resting my forehead against his. "I guess we are!"

--Time Skip--

It had been almost a year and a half since Eric and I had started dating, and I had loved every albeit strange minute of it. In a way, it was exciting to be a secret! But at the same time, it was hard not to be envious as I watched Gene and Paul take their girlfriends backstage and out to dinner and give them front row seats.

Eric did his best to make me happy while keeping me hidden, and I did still love him. He gave me tickets to every show, but they couldn't all be front row as he said it would be too suspicious. So I bounced around the audience, sometimes so close I could almost touch tongues with Gene, sometimes so far I could barely see my boyfriend's face on the stage. But all the same, I loved him!

I couldn't help but wish though that we were able to spend more nights together. He said he couldn't always be with me, again because it would be too suspicious. So we only got two or three nights a week together, leaving me to savor each moment with him dearly but always wishing for more.

Last night had been one of our few nights together and I had enjoyed it desperately, relishing both his soft company and our wild bouts of fun. But as I woke up to a soft kiss on my cheek, I knew it was almost time for it to end.

I smiled, looking up at Eric. "Good morning," I murmured.

"Hello Y/N. Sleep well?" he asked, giving me the same gentle smile as always.

"I did. You do book me very nice hotel rooms," I said, stretching in the bed with a yawn.

"I do what I can. I'm sorry I can't get you the nicest suites, it would just--" "Be too suspicious," I finished with a smile, pinching him playfully on the cheek. "I know. I know the rules."

"And I wish you could come with us on the private plane too, I hate I have to make you fly commercial, but--" "It's too suspicious!" I said with a giggle. "It's okay! I know. But shall we get breakfast?" I asked.

He pulled me out of bed, sitting on the couch with me on his lap as we ordered room service, happily sharing some waffles.

"I'm not going to be back tonight, I'm sorry," he said sadly after awhile.

"Where do you go?" I asked, and he sighed.

"Groupies. But Y/N we never do more than kissing, you know that. It's just that I have to keep up appearances. If I'm never with any it'll look suspicious," he murmured.

"But why do I have to be a secret?" I asked. "From the public I can understand, but why from the band? Why from your friends?"

"If you knew, you would hate me. And you'd be right to do so," he said, voice barely above a whisper as he gently slid me off his lap.

I frowned, putting a hand on his cheek and turning his face toward mine. "I could never hate you."

"You would hate me. You should hate me, if you knew. And I'm sorry I'll have to break your heart one day, I truly am."

"Eric, please. I could never hate you, you know that!" I said, putting my hands on his arms and giving them a squeeze.

"I'm sorry. I can't tell you, not yet. But I will one day. If you're unable to be in a relationship because of this, I understand. The stipulations are that you're secret and you understand it won't last forever," he said, giving me a mournful look.

I let out a soft sigh, heart aching as I thought of our inevitable separation. "I understand. But I want you, I love you enough to deal with the rules. I'll see you tomorrow."

With a sad smile, he kissed me, rising to his feet and heading for the door. "I love you," he said, and I smiled. "I love you too."

And with that, the door shut behind him and he was gone, leaving me alone for days once again.
