Katie's POV:

I was on the other side of the room, watching how uncomfortable y/n is with all the people greeting her and Lucas. Being an introvert, y/n never really liked the crowds, but now she's stuck in one while her boyfriend, on the other hand, is loving all the attention. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy, but sometimes he just doesn't seem to know how uncomfortable crowds can be for y/n.

Putting my drink down, I sighed, finally getting up my feet, not wanting to watch y/n suffer any longer.

"Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen, if I could borrow y/n for a while. My boss just called, who also happens to be her client, he wanted to talk to y/n. He told me he's been reaching out to her for a few minutes already. I think it's something really important." I lied in front of their faces.

"Lucas, do you mind?" I asked him as both y/n, and I waited for his answer.

"Of course." He smiled.

"Take all the time you need." He added.

I muttered a quick thank you as I waited for y/n to follow me to my table.

I watched as she kissed her boyfriend on the cheek before finally walking in my direction.

Your POV:

"You're a lifesaver!" I told Katie before bringing out my phone to dial her boss' number.

"Whoah whoah whoah, what are you doing?" I heard Katie ask as I continued to dial Mr. Morgan's number.

"Calling your boss, didn't you say he's been reaching out to me for a few minutes now?" I asked her, confused.

Katie laughed. Clearly, I've misunderstood something.

"I lied about that y/n. No one's calling you. I saw how uncomfortable you are talking to a bunch of people, and Lucas doesn't seem to notice, so I took it upon myself to make up a lie so I could grab you out of there." She smiled.

I couldn't help but smile at her sweet gesture. She really knows me. What an absolute angel Katie really is.

"You're too good for me. I don't know what I'll do without you." I said, hugging her.

"Well, you could repay me by arriving at our movie nights on time from now on." She said, hugging me back.

Our tiny hug-fest wast was brought to an end when we heard my cousin talking through the microphone about every one of our family has been told to make a speech for my parents.

"I guess that's my cue," I told Katie as we part from our hug.

"Go. I'll see you later." She told me.

Giving her one last smile, I started walking towards my parents to provide a godawful speech that I wasn't even prepared with.

------

Everyone was done giving their speeches when my mom took the microphone.

"Hold on, everyone. I would also want to hear a few words from my beautiful daughter's boyfriend, Lucas. Darling, you have been with our daughter for a few years now, so it's safe to say that you've already become a part of the family." Smiling, I looked at Lucas, who was beside me as he took the mic.

"Thank you, Martha, for your touching words." He started off his speech, and I continued to watch him.

"I just wanted to thank you guys for being supportive parents to y/n. I couldn't imagine how many times she broke down during college, but you were there every time to cheer her up. You also became my second parents. Whenever my parents are away for a business trip during the holidays, you would welcome me into your family so I wouldn't have to spend Christmas or Thanksgiving alone. You gave me your blessing when I asked you if I could date your daughter, and I've never been so happy that you gave me permission. Your daughter is the love of my life, and she is my happiness." Lucas paused as he looked right at me. I feel my heart racing as now everyone's attention is on me.

"I asked for your blessings before, and now I'm very thankful yet again for giving me your blessing for this brand new chapter in our lives." Lucas paused as he went down on one knee.

I froze at my spot as I watched him take out a small box from his pocket and opens it revealing a diamond ring as everyone gasped in surprise.

"Y/n, you've become a huge part of my life. You are my inspiration and the reason that I work hard every morning. I love you with all my heart, and I wanted to ask you in front of all our loved ones... will you marry me?" I stood in shock. I don't know what to do. My heart is beating so fast I feel like I'm going to faint. Everyone is waiting for my answer. I can't escape, not this one... Katie can't help me with this one. As I felt my tears falling down my face, I couldn't help but answer him with the word they all expected to hear from me.

"Yes." I whispered to him as everyone cheered.

Still in shock, all I could do was watch Lucas as he stood back up and slipped the ring on my finger.

"Perfect fit." He whispered to me as I continued to stare.

He doesn't seem to notice my shocked demeanor as he proceeds to kiss and hug me tight.

I scanned the crowd for any sign of Katie as I rested my hands on Lucas' back. When I saw her, I swear to God I think tears were falling down her face. She quickly wiped her face and exited the banquet hall.

Why is she crying? Before I could excuse myself, people started to gather around Lucas and me raising their champagne glasses and trying to get a glimpse of my ring while saying a quick congratulations.

Everything became too quick, too fast.

Yes, it's too fast.
