Disclaimer. In no way do I dislike Dawn, I actually really like Laura Baldwin as Dawn in Waitress, this is just for the story 😊
Year Ten.

Narrators POV

Piecing the final touches to her outfit for their Arctic Monkeys gig tomorrow, (which had to be booked a year in advance, or they sell out far too quickly), she hung her outfit up ready. Dianne looked at herself in the mirror and looked herself up and down, before sighing. I'll never be good enough or pretty enough for Joe. He's so in love with Dawn, he'll end her marrying her, and I'll be all alone. Dianne's thoughts took over. No, stop it Dianne, he's young. It'll fizzle out....

Dianne had decided not to tell Joe about her crushing on him, realising her friendship is so much more important than the truth. I can't ruin our friendship. She had told herself. Keeping it locked away. Safe and secure. But what she didn't know, was that Joe was also harbouring a secret too. Just like Dianne, he too was crushing on her.

Dianne and Jason had split up recently, due to one: it fizzling out and two: Jason fancied someone else, but he'd never cheat. No, he wasn't that person, so he knew he had to end it with her, for the sake of her feelings. Which Dianne respected, as it showed that Jason was a decent human being. And did actually care about her.

Today was Friday, which Dianne and Joe were so, so excited about. As it meant that the concert was tomorrow. It would mean travelling on a plane across to Sydney, but it'd be worth it. Both sets of parents decided that both Joe and Dianne were not only old enough but also responsible enough to stay there on their own, and fly back Sunday.

As Dianne walks into school that morning, she sees Dawn and Joe having an argument, before she storms off, leaving Joe with his head in his hands and tears rolling down his cheeks. "Joe?" Dianne places a hand on his shoulder. He jumps but turns around. "What's wrong?" She asks softly.
"Dawn just dumped me." He sighs.
"What? Why?" She asks with shock.
"She was cheating on me, and didn't think it fair to lead me on anymore." He whispers.
"That bitch!" Dianne growls. "I'm gonna kill her."
"Dotty, don't. Please," Joe pleads. "I just want to forget about it."
"Okay, fine. For you. But I swear to God, if I see her," Dianne shakes her head.
"You won't. Lets just head to class, and forget about her." Dianne nods, linking arms with Joe as they head to class.

Friday Evening

Zipping her small, overnight suitcase up, she lifts it down the stairs as Joe waits for her. "Are you ready to go?" She nods her head, excited.
"Have a great time, stay safe and remember to call me when you land." Rina says kissing her daughter's cheek as Mark drives them to the airport.

Dianne's POV

And just like that, we had arrived in Sydney.

Checking into the hotel my Mum and Dad had paid for, we step inside the lift, taking us to our floor.

Opening the door, both Joe and  I gobsmacked at the view as we walk in,

our room overlooking Sydney Harbour.

"Wow your parents picked well." Joe says, placing his bag down on his bed.
"I know. Wow. What a view." I reply.
"Hey, let's get changed then head for lunch before the concert, yeah?" Joe asks.
"Sure. Sounds good, you go have a shower first, I'll let Mum know we're all checked in and fine." I reply as Joe nods, heading for the bathroom.

You need to tell him, Dotty. Xx

Mum knew about my crush on Joe and was telling me to pluck up the courage to tell him.

I don't know Mum, his friendship means more to me than anything else, I'm scared to tell him... Xx

"Scared to tell who what?" Joe says coming out the shower, with just a towel around his waist. Do not stare, Dianne.
Shit. I had messaged Joe instead of my Mum.

"Dotty?" Joe asks, throwing a top on, covering his abs.
"Oh, er, it's nothing." I say rather too quickly.
"Dianne!" Joe sits on the bed. "Come on its me. I know you, tell me. What is it?" He asks, softly.
"I can't tell you. It'll ruin our friendship." I sigh.
"What will ruin our friendship? Dotty, please, tell me." Joe says, worry and concern laced in his voice.

It's now or never, Dianne.
"Okay I'll tell you, but can you please not look at me when I say it?" He nods, turning his head away from me, looking to the floor.  "Right, I'm just going to say it," I pause. "Joe I like you, as in more than a friend way.."

Dun dun dun!!!
Cliffy!!!

Now, don't worry. Instead of me normally skipping the years, I'm not going to, as this is a two parter to this chapter.

Look out for the next one coming soon..
