Ellis woke up before Gilbert and was already sat at the table. She smiled once she heard him humming a tune as he walked down the stairs.

Gilbert placed a kiss on Ellis cheek, making her heart rate increase rapidly.

He grabbed her hand and pulled her out of her seat. He was still humming the tune as they danced around the kitchen. Ellis couldn't help but feel all giddy and excited.

"What's this here?" Bash questioned motioning you the flower that Gilbert had in his blazer. It was identical to the one that he gave Ellis.

"Nothing." Gilbert smirked and playfully winked at Ellis.

"Oh yes, nothing. I can see that. It's a normal day with you all moony like and sprouting posies." Bash commented.

Gilbert filled his cup with tea, before turning to face Mary.

"Mary. Bash told me Elijah's here." Gilbert's arm wrapped around Ellis' waist, pulling her as close as possible to him.

"There go Blythe, changing the subject." Bash pointed out.

"I hope you don't mind. We let him sleep in your fathers room." Mary said and Gilbert smiled.

"No, Ofcourse. It's not a shrine." Gilbert pointed out as he tapped his fingers three times on Ellis' waist. Ellis couldn't help but feel the stereotypical butterflies.

"He's not used to getting up with the rooster." Mary said loudly, hoping he would hear and wake up.

"Though, we were wondering, if you might get used to it? Maybe you and me could use and extra hand. Then Carter and James wouldn't have to be here constantly and they can work on their own farm." Bash pointed out. James and Carter came over every lunch time to help Bash and stayed until dark. "With all the apples this year and coal."

Gilbert smiled with a nod.

"Yes. And did I mention, yes." Gilbert stood up from leaning on the table and twirled Ellis around again.

"I'll deliver the news." Bash said standing up from his seat.

"And I'm going to go and check on that cute little baby Delphine." Ellis said as she skipped away.

"Alright then, tell me." Mary said as she pulled the flower out of his pocket.

"Ah, well. There's a girl. She works at the-" Mary smiled waiting to hear about Ellis. But once he said worked, she panicked.

"Lord have mercy! Mary!" Bash shouted.

Ellis ran towards Gilbert's fathers room.

"He's gone?" Mary questioned. Gilbert walked in seconds later to see his fathers room wrecked. Gilbert walked over to his fathers draw where all of his war medals were kept. He closed the box, on noticing it was empty. "Gilbert. I-"

"I'm sorry." Bash apologised. "I'm sorry." Gilbert took a seat on his fathers bed and looked at the picture on the bed side table of his mother.

Ellis sat beside Gilbert and wrapped her arms around him. Gilbert rested his head on top of Ellis and let out a defeated sigh.
