Band aid
I heard my footsteps echoing in my ears,
Reminding me how lonesome it is when you’re not here,
Then memories flashed like I always feared,
The feeling of longing brought me into tears,
I remembered how broken I was back then,
I fell in love and earned a broken heart when I was fifteen,
Walking at the park, I cried and cried that day,
I didn’t know where to go when you suddenly blocked my way,
You offered me your handkerchief and told me not to cry,
We sat on a bench as we waited for my tears to dry,
In the middle of the silence you asked for my hand,
You held my wrist as I opened my palm,
You put something on it then to me you smiled,
I saw a band aid, I frowned and asked you “Why?”,
Your answer was, “From now on, I’ll be your band aid. I’ll help you heal.
I’ll stay until happiness is the only thing you feel.”
I was out of words, again I cried,
Starting that day, you stayed by my side,
Months have passed; you kept your words,
Until in the process of healing, I fell for you like I’ve never fell before,
One day I told you about what I feel,
But the things you said to me got me killed,
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to let you fall,
I love you like a sister, that’s all.”
I was left there standing in the dark,
Digesting the thought that the person who healed me..
Just broke my heart.
