You hated the way the jocks treated Tyler. Yeah you weren't friends with him, hell you've never even talked to him before but you didn't want to see him be treated like he was. So you got Montgomery suspended for 3 weeks. It took a lot to convince the principal to suspend him but it finally worked. Tyler found out it was you and asked you about it. From that day forward the two of you became best friends.
"That was you, right? Monty's suspension."
"Umm yeah. You don't deserve to be treated that way and I thought I could help."
