INT. HOSPITAL/MARIA'S ROOM - NIGHT
Maria, wearing a hospital gown, is lying so still on the bed, unconscious. She is hooked to a dextrose bottle.
A DOCTOR and a NURSE are attending to her.
Flip quietly sits on a chair beside the bed, amazed as the doctor gives Maria a shot in the arm.
FLIP: (to the nurse) Is this a house of magic? It's full of potions.
NURSE: (smiles) Magic is everywhere if you believe in it, young man.
FLIP: This human magic called medicine is ridiculous. It makes people sleep longer...and grow weaker.
DOCTOR: (with a knowing glance) There's one life-giving 'magic' more potent than all this.
Flip's eyes widen in anticipation.
FLIP: What?
DOCTOR: Love. Give your mother love.
FLIP: Love?
DOCTOR: Humans can never invent anything more powerful than that.
Flip nods, contemplating.
DOCTOR: Stay with Maria. She needs you more than ever now.
