Chapter 40

**Carter's POV**

"I'm so glad that we get to go home soon. I really miss Ryan"

"I know, these trainings seems to just drag. They're so long and boring" Alex said

"I know. I just want to go home and cuddle Cupcake and Ryan and take a nap"

Alex laughed "You have such a cute relationship"

"Oh, thanks? I never really thought about that"

"I think we should get on the road. The streets are still wet and as the sun goes down it'll get worse out there"

"That's true. Let's just head out now"

We starting driving and the roads weren't to bad just yet.

"It just sucks that we have to go to work tomorrow" Alex said

"I know, but I'm sure my substitute will be thankful I'm back"

"Is your class that bad?"

"No, but they have their moments. Tayler and Kelly said they've been pretty hyper since I haven't been there"

"Im sure my kids have been crazy too. They don't do well with change"

"Most kids don't"

"That's true. I don't even do good with change"

I laughed "I normally don't either"

"How long until we're back in Scranton?" Alex asked after a while

"Um, about 20 minutes I would say."

"I hate this part of the highway. It's so narrow."

"Me too, and the roads are getting icey"

"I know, just be careful and we'll be ok"

"I'm going ten miles under the speed limit"

"Carter, watch out!!!!"

That's the last thing I heard before I saw a blinding light the everything went black

**Ryan's POV**

"You're going through a lot of trouble for this proposal." Ricky said

"Well, I plan to only have one proposal and one marriage so I need to make it count"

"True. What time is Carter suppose to be here"

"I don't know she said she thought they'd be in town by 4. I'm sure she's just at Alex's house. If she isn't home soon I'll try to give her a call"

"Good plan. I'm gonna head home"

"Ok, I'll see you Saturday if not before"

"Sounds good"

Ricky left and it was just me and cupcake waiting for Carter. It was bearly 4:15 so no need to worry yet. I went into the kitchen to be sure that we had food for dinner. I wanted to make Carter something nice for her first night back.

One hour later

It's been a while since I've heard from Carter and I tried to call her but she won't pick up her phone. I was debating whether I should call her again or just leave her alone. I've been pacing back and forth through my livingroom not knowing what to do. My phone rang but it came up as unknown. I didn't answer it, but I did become curious when it calles me again

"Hello?" I finally answered

"Ryan?"

"Yes....who is this?"

"It's Carrie, Carter's mom. Do you have a minute? I have something I need to tell you, and it isn't good"
