"But it's 1869. How can I die now?" Rose asks.

"Time isn't a straight line. It can twist into any shape. You can be born in the twentieth century and die in the nineteenth and it's all our fault. We brought you here" {Y/N} says.

"It's not your fault. I wanted to come."

"What about me? I saw the fall of Troy, World War Five. I pushed boxes at the Boston Tea Party. Now I'm going to die in a dungeon in Cardiff" the Doctor says making a face.

"It's not just dying. We'll all become one of them" Rose says "we'll go down fighting, yeah?"

"Yeah" {Y/N} and the Doctor say nodding, Rose grabs {Y/N} and the Doctor's hands.

"Together?"

"Together" {Y/N} says "we're so glad we met you, Rose."

"Me too."

"Doctor! Doctor! Turn off the flame, turn up the gas! Now, fill the room, all of it, now!" Dickens shouts.

"What're you doing?" {Y/N} asks.

"Turn it all on. Flood the place!"

"Brilliant. Gas" the Doctor says letting of Rose's hand.

"What, so we choke to death instead?" Rose asks.

"Am I correct, Doctor? These creatures are gaseous."

"Fill the room with gas, it'll draw them out of the host. Stuck them into the air like poison from a wound!" the Doctor shouts, the corpses that were standing in front of the metal gate that the Doctor, Rose and {Y/N} were behind, start moving towards Dickens.

"I hope, oh Lord, I hope that this theory will be validated soon, if not immediately" Dickens says.

"Plenty more!" the Doctor says moving towards a gas pipe on the wall he rips it away and points it towards a corpse, the Gelth leaves the corpse.

"It's working!" Dickens shouts, {Y/N} looks towards Gwyneth.

"Gwyneth, send them back. They lied. They're not angels" she says, Gwyneth frowns.

"Liars?"

"Look at me. If your mother and father could look down and see this, they'd tell you the same. They'd give you the strength. Now send them back!"

"I can't breathe" Rose says leaning against the wall, {Y/N} looks back and looks towards the Doctor and Dickens.

"You two, get her out of here" she says.

"I'm not leaving her" Rose says.

"And I'm not leaving you" the Doctor adds.

"They're too strong" Gwyneth says, {Y/N} shakes her head.

"Remember that world you saw? Rose's world? All these people. None of it will exist unless you send them back through the rift."

"I can't send them back. But I can hold them. Hold them in this place, hold them here. Get out" Gwyneth takes a box of matches from her apron pocket.

"You can't!" Rose shouts.

"Leave this place!" Gwyneth shouts.

"Rose, Doctor, get out. Go now. I won't leave her while she's still in danger. Now go, with Charles!" they both nod and leave {Y/N} sighs and looks at Gwyneth, she places her fingers on Gwyneth's neck not feeling any pulse "I'm sorry" she whispers kissing Gwyneth on the forehead "thank you" {Y/N} quickly pulls away and runs out of the basement. The Doctor, Rose and Dickens stand outside and see {Y/N} running towards them when suddenly the building explodes sending {Y/N} flying across the street, Rose, Dickens and the Doctor run over to her.

"She didn't make it" Rose says noticing Gwyneth wasn't there.

"I'm sorry. She closed the rift" {Y/N} says, the Doctor helps her up.

"At such a cost. The poor child" Dickens says.

"I did try, Rose, but Gwyneth was already dead. She had been for at least five minutes" {Y/N} explains.

"What do you mean?"

"I think she was dead from the minute she stood under that arch."

"But she can't have. She spoke to us. She helped us. She saved us. How could she have done that?"

"There are more things in Heaven and Earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy. Even for you, {Y/N}" Dickens says.

"She saved this world. A servant girl. No one will ever know" Rose says quietly.

*Time Skip*

"Right then, Charlie boy, I've just got to go into my, er, shed. Won't be long" the Doctor says walking over to the TARDIS and trying to open the door, {Y/N} sighs walking over to him leaving Rose with Dickens.

"Why do you always forget your key?" {Y/N} asks pulling her key out of her pocket and opening the door for him.

"I don't know" he says, he looks at her and smiles.

"Sometimes I swear you'll be the death of me" he whispers kissing her forehead.

"Really? Cause I could say the same about you" she laughs wrapping her arms around his torso and resting her head on his chest listing to the soft beats of his hearts.

"...After all I've learned tonight, there can be nothing more vital" {Y/N} pulls away from the Doctor and watches as Dickens and Rose make their way over.

"You've cheered up" the Doctor says.

"Exceedingly! This morning, I thought I knew everything in this world. Now I know I've just started. All these huge and wonderful notions, Doctor. I'm inspired. I must write about them."

"Do you think that's wise?" Rose asks.

"I shall be subtle at first. The Mystery of Edwin Drood still lacks an ending. Perhaps the killer was not the boy's uncle. Perhaps he was not of the world, tell the truth" the Doctor smiles nodding.

"Good luck with it. Nice to meet you. Fantastic."

"Bye, then, and thanks" Rose shakes Dickens hand and leans up to kiss his cheek.

"Oh, my dear. How modern. Thank you, but, I don't understand. In what way is this goodbye? Where are you three going?" Dickens asks.

"You'll see. In the shed" the Doctor goes to pull {Y/N} and rose into the TARDIS when Dickens continues talking.

"Upon my soul, Doctor, {Y/N}, it's one riddle after another with you two. But after all these revelations, there's one mystery you two still haven't explained. Answer me this. Who are you?"

"Just some friends passing through" {Y/N} replies.

"But you two have such knowledge of future times. I don't wish to impose on you, but I must ask you. My books. Do they last?"

"Oh, yes!" {Y/N} replies.

"For how long?"

"Forever" {Y/N} smiles.

"Right. Shed. Come on, you two" the Doctor says.

"In the box? All three of you?"

"Yep. See you" the Doctor pulls Rose and {Y/N} into the TARDIS, once inside the Doctor walks over to the console and {Y/N} heads for the hallways.

"Doesn't that change history if he writes about blue ghosts?" both Time Lords turn to her.

"In a week's time, it's 1870, and that's the year he dies. Sorry. He'll never get to tell his story" {Y/N} says "I'm going to get out of this dress" {Y/N} says walking away, Rose turns to the Doctor.

"Oh, no. He was so nice."

"But in your time, he was already dead. We've brought him back to life, and he's more alive now than he's ever been, old Charlie boy. Let's give him one last surprise" with that the Doctor pulls some levers and the TARDIS sets out for their next adventure.
