Chapter 38

SYDNEY'S POV

Today is Andrei's birthday.

I have talked to him kaninang umaga na umuwi siya agad at huwag mag-oovertime. I told him I need his help in one of my projects kaya I'm sure he'll be home early. He doesn't have a clue that I'm planning something special for him.

With the help of Kayla and Tricia, we decided na magpreprepare ako ng dinner just for the two of us and I will be cooking the food myself. Unlike before na pagpiprito lang ang alam ko, I can now cook better. It's not an extravagant thing but atleast I'll be putting my best on it.

And after our dinner, we would meet his parents and my friends for another batch of surprise.

But before anything else, I need to buy him a gift. Sa totoo lang, I don't know what to get for him. I mean, he has everything.

I walked around the mall hoping I would be able to find the perfect gift. It took me an hour when something finally caught my attention. It was a fountain pen from a famous brand. The pen was simple yet I find it so elegant.

Just like Andrei. Kung titingnan mo si Andrei sa unang pagkakataon, you would think he is a cold-hearted person who only cares about business, but once you get to know him, you would see that deep inside him, he has a soft side for the people he cares about.

I imagine Andrei thinking about me whenever he uses this pen. I hope he'll like my gift.

After kong makabili ng regalo, dumiretso ako sa supermarket. This place reminds me of so many memories. And I can no longer hide my smile ng madaanan ko ang lane ng mga paper plates and plastic spoon and forks. I remember him getting me a set of those things dahil tinatamad akong hugasan ang mga pinagkainan ko.

My smile wouldn't fade the whole time I'm walking around the supermarket. I also have a memory with Andrei in this exact place. I shook my head to bring myself back to the present. All the memories make me nostalgic.

" Kuya, I'd get one kilo of this." After ibigay ang palstic sa akin, I went to the seafood section.

I'll be cooking Andrei's favorites: beef steak, steamed bangus and buttered shrimp. I'll also cook kare-kare. and this time, I hope everything would turn out well, unlike the last time I cooked for him. Sana maging masarap ang mga lulutuin ko.

After finishing my business sa supermarket. I went to a cake shop. A birthday would never be complete without a cake.

"Can you wrap this for me please?" I said while pointing at the chocolate cake I chose. I had the words 'Happy Birthday Babe! I love you so much' written on top of the cake.

It was my mother. We have never been closed so I feel awkward at the moment. But it would be rude to just ignore her.

"Ma! Bakit po kayo nandito. May kameeting po ba kayo?" I said to her.

She said to me.

I looked at her wide-eyed. I can't believed she just told me that. Sanay na ko sa pagtrato niya sa akin but I just can't believe my own mother would say something so harsh to me.
