Molly...thirty nine

by sloanranger

Then out of the blue I get a knock on the door.

I open it and guess who it is – the cabbie.

"Hi," I say.

"Hi, yourself," he answers.

Then neither of us say anything.

Then he says: "Harvey, told me he rode you home."

"Uh-huh.

"Anyway, I was just wondering how you were....  Just dropped off a fare down the block so ... anyway, was in the neighborhood." Tom stuck his hands in his pockets,  "and I just thought I'd stop by and see how you are."

"I'm okay."

So it goes on like this for a little while.

Finally I ask him, "You hungry?" And I invite him in and give him cornbread and soup.

(To be continued).
