It was so foggy that the rivers could barely be seen. I knew we had to be out of New York by now, but because we weren't on a main road, there were no signs to indicate where we were.

The car had stopped, making me jolt awake. Giorgio parked at the beginning of a circular driveway of a large, tan house. There wasn't much detail from the outside, but from what I could tell, there was a lot to see on the inside. Giorgio and Giovanni walked up to the three steps leading to the front door and rung the doorbell.

I could see we were literally in the middle of nowhere and I assumed that the next house had to be more than five miles from here. I looked over to the front door and saw the men talking to an older gentleman, who I assumed was their father. After their conversation, the man closed the door and the brothers came back to the car. Giovanni opened my door and held his hand out for me to take. I grabbed it, while Giorgio got my bag out the trunk.

"Nervous?" Giovanni asked

"Sort of."

"Don't be."

Easier said than done. He led me to the front door, which was unlocked for us. He stepped in and I followed through the house and up the stairs. Everything was composed of modern wood. The walls were white with light hardwood floors. Giovanni guided me to a bedroom that comprised of a queen-sized bed, two nightstands, and a dresser. It was a simple decoration, but the room was still big. There were long windows that lacked curtains for privacy. Next was the adjoining bathroom with a long, granite tub and a sink with a toilet. The decoration was also simple here too, and the walls lacked paintings and pictures. The house seemed brand new with its lack of homey feeling.

"Where are we?" I asked Giovanni

He allowed me to explore the room I would be staying in and while I was in the bathroom, he remained in the bedroom. When I returned to him, he was sitting on the bed.

"Rhode Island." he responded

"Really?"

"Yes."

"How long have your parents lived here?"

"They haven't."

I was confused, but not surprised. No wonder why everything looked so sad, no one had the chance to make the house comfy.

"It's more of a safe house."

"So you made your parents come all the way out here? Why?"

"I was thinking about what you said when you told me that they were involved. I thought if I kept their lives separate from mine, they would be safe. But I took enough chances assuming the safety of the people I care about."

"You care about me?"

"Is that even a question?"

I couldn't help but smile. I quickly covered the smile with my hand and recomposed myself.

"What about your sister?"

"She should be here any minute now."

"Does your family know about me?"

"They must know that you're important if I bought you here."

"Do they know everything about you?"

"Yea."

"So I don't have to lie?"

"No."

I nodded my head and stayed silent. I had no other questions that came to mind.

"Get cleaned up and I'll come get you." he said

He placed my bag on the bed and I went over to grab some underwear and a new outfit to put on.
