*Trinity's PoV*

As I gazed miserably at the "Elevator Out of Order" sign that clung to the dirty metal door of the one and only method of getting to the 11th floor of the building that wouldn't result in me giving myself a mild case of angina, I became inexplicably glad that I wore flat pumps instead of heels.

Figuring there was no other way to get up to the floor I needed to be, I dragged my feet towards the door that led to the staircase that, in turn, would lead to my probable death. The door banged shut as I let go of it, and the echo rang for more than just a few seconds, confirming my suspicion that there were, indeed, a hell of a lot of steps.

Looking up the centre of the stairway, all that was visible were levels after levels of stairs, resembling a game of snake as they clung to the walls and twisted every flight of stairs. I shook my head lightly in anticipation of the task that lay ahead of me, and brought my foot up to the first step, setting off the pace that I would have to keep up for an indefinite amount of time, until I reached my floor.

22 flights of stairs, 5 trips and 3 mild asthma attacks later, I had reached the 11th floor. I took a moment to collect myself after the exercise that had knocked every ounce of enthusiasm out of me, looking for a sign for the bathrooms, hoping that I would be able to fix myself up before presenting myself to who I hoped would be my future employers. However, I couldn't see anything that resembled a bathrooom, and the last thing I wanted to do just before applying for a job was to get lost in the building.

I took in a breath and swept back the loose hairs that were scattered around my face, pulling them back into the bun that had once been neat and patting my hair down to ensure that I looked half-decent.

I walked over to the reception desk that sat in the middle of a hub of activity, trying as hard as I could to convey that I was confident, although I felt anything but. A young woman with black hair slicked back into a tight bun smiled at me , silently asking me if there was any way in which she could help me.

"I'm Trinity Collins," I introduced myself, "I'm here to-"

That was as far as I got before sheheld up her hand to stop me.

"Ah, you're the girl for the I.T. job," she greeted, standing up and walking around her desk so that she was on the same side as me.

I.T. job? Well, I hadn't known it was a job in I.T., but I suppose I couldn;t really have expected much more without any university education. I decided to nod, and she gestured for me to follow her. I was led down a nrrow corridor and into a small room. Although it was small, the lack of furniture somehow made it seem more spacious and somewhat more daunting.

There was a simple wooden desk in the middle of the room, with a lady of about thirty years old sitting at one side and an empty chair on the other. I guessed that was where I was supposed to sit, and looked for the receptionist that had let me in for confirmation. She nodded her head towards the chair and I thanked her before she exited, leaving me alone with the lady at the desk.

"Well, are you gonna stare at me for the next half hour, or shall we have a chat?" she asked, amusement ringing in her voice as her face lit up in a grin.

I let my breath out, thanking heavens that she wasn't one of those mean-ass employers that picks up on every fault you have instead of every achievement.

I took a seat, handing her my very limited CV that I had brought along with me, and crossed my fingers.

The interview wasn't so much an interview as a conversation, and it felt like I was talking to my friend rather than an interrogator, as I had been expecting when I first walked into the room. I gave it all my all, trying to muster all the positiveness and enthusiasm as possible. I just really, really wanted the job. As kind as it was of Louis to let me room with him for free for a while, I couldn't live off him forever, even if he was willing. He was paying for the groceries, the electricity, our meals out, my clothes; everything.

Having a job would mean that I could actually contribute to the cost of things. In my head, I kept telling myself it was so that I could have some dignity and self-worth, but, deeper, I knew that wasn't the real reason for me wanting the job. I wanted to be putting money towards the cost of things to be able to say that I wasn't just living off Louis, that he, the hero, wasn't providing all of it for me, the charity case. I know it all seems strange to have been so paranoid, but with all the promises he made me make to say that I wouldn't leave him, I was afraid that if he ever  did  do anything to make me want to leave, he would say that I owed it to him to stay, because he gave me all of this. Basically, I was afraid that he would use it as an excuse to trap me.

All I could do was hope that this was all paranoia in my head, that I was just over-thinking things. Either way, I really needed this job, for my sanity, if nothing else.

"Well," the woman, who I had learned to be called Sophie, began, "I've made a decision...."

The only thing that was running through my mind when she said that was, 'Oh, Lord, please let me have gotten it, please, please, please.'

Her answer would have a huge impact on every aspect of my life, and I just needed to know what it was.
