Chapter 13

*Layal*

My hands were shaking. I wasn't sure what exactly was the reason for them to be shaking. I felt the shiver creep up my spine when I realized what I was about to do. I knew the answer to my questions, but I don't know if I wanted the confirmation or was it better if I was oblivious. The less I knew the better or the more the better?

"Layal?" Someone knocked on my door and I slammed my laptop shut and folded my hands in my lap. "You awake?"

"Yeah, yeah," I breathed out.

Eric walked into my room and sat at the end of my bed. "How was school?"

"It was good," I answered too quickly.

He watched me too closely and I shifted feeling a bit uncomfortable. "What is it?" He turned his body to face me and crossed his muscular arms over his chest.

"Huh, nothing?" I wanted to slap myself for making it sound like a question. Of course he didn't believe me and just sat there with a raised eyebrow waiting for a response. "You don't want to hear it. Trust me."

"Try me," he challenged.

"It's about a boy." I waited for his response to that since he didn't want to hear about my love life, hoping he would give up.

"Proceed," he scrunched up his nose.

"You sure? I don't want to tell you if you're disturbed by this topic."

"Yes, I'm sure. Now," he got off my bed and sat on my desk chair next to my bed instead. "Proceed."

"Okay," I took a deep breath before I said anything giving me sometime to think about what I'm going to say. "I ran into him the first day I was here. We were in In-n-out and even though I had a boyfriend at the time, I felt a connection to this guy." I exhaled and was hesitant about what I was going to ask next. "I know there's myths and what not about vampires, witches, and," I paused to study his expression, to see if there was any hint of shock or humor, but his face was unreadable. "Werewolves."

He shifted a little in his seat and that's all I needed as a confirmation. "You are one, aren't you Eric." It wasn't a question. I was surprised by how strong my voice was and how sure I was by this because I don't hear the terms 'mate' or 'alpha' used only in werewolf stories. "Nathan and Hanna were one as well and so is Gabriel and Amy."

Eric just sighed and unfolded his arms. "You're really smart Layal. I give you that." He chuckled.

"So I'm right?" I was shocked by his reaction. He wasn't even trying to deny it in any way.

"You're completely and utterly right, but it's not my place to explain any of this to you. That's for your mate to tell you." He stood up and began making his way to the door.

"Wait," I jumped off my bed and rushed to him. He turned around before leaving.

"I suggest you call your mate now and any question that's running through your head now will be answered." He smiled a little and messed my hair up a little before he walked out.

I don't know how long I sat in my room before I finally decided to text Gabriel. It was probably a couple of hours debating between Amy and Gabriel, but like Eric said Amy probably would've said the same to me. Gabriel is the one who needs to tell me the truth and I'm his 'mate.'

Shaking my head and texting him before I changed my mind for thinking too much about what I'm about to do. My thumb was over send and it felt like a million pounds that I was about to push. Just hit send! I jumped at the voice in my head and my thumb landed on the send. I looked at my phone with wide eyes and not thirty-second passed before I snapped out of it thanks to the vibration of my phone.

Gabriel: Of course. Do you know where the library is?

I replied and ran to change into something decent to wear other than my pajamas. I threw on a pair of faded blue jeans and a white tank top. I brushed quickly through my hair, slipped on my sandals, and grabbed my satchel forgetting about the paper completely. I wasn't going to waste time talking about the paper.

I ran down the stairs and passed by Eric giving me a reassuring nod from the kitchen island. He was going to let me drive for myself? Well that was odd, but I wasn't going to question it.

Once I was in my car that my dad bought for me, I took no more than three-seconds to admire it before I made me way out of the garage and on the main street heading to the library.

There was an adrenaline rush racing through my veins and the voice in the back of my head was excited nonetheless.

As soon as I parked my car, I sped walked towards the library. Before I had a chance to open the door, I felt someone grabbed my other hand and pull me towards them. I gasped and smiled as soon as I realized who it was.

"Gabriel," I breathed out.

"You know." He said and brushed away the hair that was covering half of my eye. I didn't say anything, but just nodded. "I'm so lucky to have a smart and strong mate." He lightly lifted up my chin so that I was looking at him.

Looking at him, I couldn't help but feel whole. I never felt even half of this when I was with that douche.

My muscles were relaxed and my heart was at ease. Everything around me disappeared and the man in front of me was the only thing my eyes saw.

"So beautiful." He leaned down and connected our lips together. His hand firmly held my face while the other rested lightly on my lower back pressing me tight against his firm body. I wrapped my arms around his neck brushing my fingers through his silky black hair.

I giggled at his attempt to open my mouth so his tongue could enter. I pulled away and slapped his chest playfully.

"You're not afraid of me?" Gabriel asked tilting his head to the side while his arm still wrapped around me. His face held a bit of suspense and hope. I couldn't think of a reason why I should be afraid of him. Sure I suffered weeks of emotional distress, but that felt like ages ago instead of a few weeks ago. I guess I can blame Gabriel's presence for that.

"Should I be?"

"I don't want you to be." He leaned down and rested his forehead on mine.

"Then I won't be." I barely whispered before he picked me up and twirled me around in circles. I looked down and saw how bright his face was with excitement. He placed me down on my feet and held my hand.

"This is the best day of my life," he beamed and began walking the opposite way from the library.

"Wait," I stopped walking and he turned around to face me. "Where are we going?"

"To the pack house." As if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Pack house," confusion laced in my voice. He began laughing and walking back to my car.

"Sorry. I just got too excited and wanted to take you home to introduce the future Luna to everyone," he said.

When we got to my car he held out his hand, waiting. "Keys."

"This is my car." I crossed my arms over my chest stubbornly. "And what is a Luna anyway?"

He wiggled his fingers clearly waiting for me to hand over the keys. "I'll explain everything as soon as you hand over the keys."

I rolled my eyes. "Fine." I huffed and dropped the keys into his hand. He unlocked the car, but remained where he stood. I didn't know what exactly came over him for that moment, but he looked a bit nervous.

"Layal," he stepped closer to me. "I want to do this in a way that is comfortable for you," he scratched the back of his neck nervously. "So I was wondering if you would like to go out with me?" He dropped his head at the end and I couldn't help but smile. I peaked under to see his eyes.

"I'd love to Gabe," I agreed.
