Avery

Cameron.

He shut the door behind him, and walked towards me.

He wore dark coloured swim trunks, and a pair of flip flops.

He gazed at me, standing on my lawn.

"Where's Noah?" I asked, crossing my arms.

He shrugged. "My mom told him he had a doctors appointment, so he told me to go with you instead".

I mentally rolled my eyes. Thanks Noah...  I was trying very hard to ignore Cameron.

"Oh". Was all I said.

I began walking down the sidewalk, towards the beach.

Santa Monica beach to be exact. I lived just down the street from it.

Cameron joined me by my side, and walked with me.

"Do you really want to come with me?" I asked, breaking our awkward silence.

I turned my head and looked at him.

He nods. "Yeah. Why?"

I looked back down. "Because all I'm doing in tanning".

He lets out a faint chuckle. "Well, I'll tan with you". He smiles.

He slung his plush, white towel over his shoulder and stuck his hands in the pockets of his trunks.

Once we got to the beach, the whole place was empty.

It was pretty much deserted.

It felt good to be the only ones here actually. Then I wouldn't have to listen to screaming and the hollering of little children.

I set my towel down in the hot sand, and flattened it out.

Once it was laid out, I knelt down, and spread my body across the towel.

I laid flat on my stomach, with my hands by my side.

The sun started burning into me, making me feel warm and relaxed.

Cameron laid down right beside me, on his towel.

He laid on his back, and tilted his head in my direction.

His eyes roamed mine, which made me feel awkward.

To avoid the awkwardness, I closed my eyes.

As I drifted off to sleep, I heard the soft sound of the ocean water, splashing against shore.

Thankfully it wasn't the sound of Cameron yapping. He was actually quiet for once.

My back burned in warmth. I'm pretty sure I slept too much, that I actually got sun burnt.

My eyes flickered open, to see Cameron peacefully sleeping by my side.

His face was calm, his lips partly open, and his hair blowing in the slight wind.

I sat up into a sitting position, with my legs tucked beneath me.

I turned my head and tried to look at my back. It was hard, but I managed to do it.

My back was completely red. A rich, fiery red. Great...

I stood up, and put my feet into the hot sand.

An old lady was sitting underneath a palm tree, applying sunscreen all over herself. She looked friendly enough to let me borrow some.

I made my up to her and tapped her shoulder.
