Loving is hard when there's the matter of war between you.

There is always love in war: love for your Kingdom, love for your people, love for yourself, love for your pride. Maybe a special someone was in your life whom you want to protect.

You loved someone. Chou Tzuyu. So much.

And it hurt you that you were on opposite sides in this fight.

You sneaked over the palace walls, making sure that nobody saw you. The night was dark, yes, but you would lose the respect you earned as a high ranking knight. You silently entered the forest, heading towards a specific grove. Using the moonlight as guidance, you were able to take the easy way.

"What took you so long?" Tzuyu scowled, crossing her arms. You let your eyes scan her figure: the blue and silver armor she wore in contrast to your gold and black one. A deadly glare was shot in your direction.

You dropped down on the soft grass beside her, lying your head on a rock and staring up at the opening above. "Someone did an overtime."

Her gaze softened in understanding, instead moving to lie beside you. Her head instantly rested on your shoulder as you watched the stars together. Usually you just cherished the time you had together without a word, soaking in every second until you'd have to prepare for battle the next day, but Tzuyu asked a question this time.

"Do you think it's worth it?"

You looked at her confusedly. "What is?"

"This. Us. The fact that we're from warring Kingdoms and we're secretly dating behind their backs."

"Of course."

"Really? You'd still continue to date me, knowing that us getting caught can be punishable by death?"

You exhaled. "Tzu, what are you trying to say? Isn't it worth it to you?"

She nervously played with the helmet in her hands. "I'm just scared, Y/N. What if I hurt you? What if I'm specifically ordered to target you?"

You turned on your side, greedily staring at her flawless side-profile. "I don't worry about that when I'm with you, Tzu."

But it seems she didn't feel very romantic that night. "I'll have to kill you someday."

You bit your lip, averting your gaze. "I know," you whispered.

As much as you hated it, you knew it was true. The kings of your respective Kingdoms felt mutual hate for each other, and they would do anything to defeat the other.

Sure, you can join Tzuyu's clan or she can join yours, but you were a knight. You swore your loyalty and service to your king. Not only will you be punished, your honor as a knight will be gone.

"But I guess," Tzuyu added, "we can just.. take advantage of the time we have. We can think of the future later."

A small smile graced your lips. "Yeah. Good luck tomorrow. Stay alive for me, yeah?"

Tzuyu buried her head deeper into your neck. "You better live for me, you idiot."
