Prompt: "How would that even work?"

Summary: Daniel and Y/N have been staring at each other longingly for months, and Jack and Peggy are tired of it. So, in a moment of history in the making, the two *team up* to find a way to get their coworkers to finally realize their feelings for each other.

Peggy's POV

I sighed heavily and took a long, long sip of my coffee. Tea was usually my drink of choice, but some mornings, the caffeine that came with tea just didn't cut it. This was one of those mornings.

I tried to force my brain to engage, but for some reason, it refused to. I stared out at the office without really seeing it. The massive stack of case files on my desk floated into my field of vision, even though I was actively trying not to look at it, until a hissing whisper to my left made me jump and snapped me out of my haze.

"Carter!"

I turned to see Jack Thompson, Chief of the New York SSR, leaning out of his office door and whisper-shouting towards me like children did when they wanted to share a secret. I silently raised an eyebrow at him, expecting an explanation, but instead he just motioned for me to join him in his office before disappearing back inside himself.

I sighed. If I wasn't awake enough for case files, I certainly wasn't awake enough for Jack Thompson's antics. But, on the other hand, whatever seemed to be going on with him would likely prove more interesting than my stack of case files.

I stood, since I couldn't exactly ignore Jack anyway. I walked into his office and shut the door behind me, then faced Jack, who sat behind his desk and watched my every move as I crossed the room to take a seat.

"What's got a bee in your bonnet?" I asked, kicking my feet up on his desk. He scowled, but didn't say anything, which is how I knew this must be serious.

"You saw Y/L/N and Sousa too, right?"

I took a deep breath and blinked, trying to figure out what he was referencing. Our two mutual friends had been dancing around each other for a month now, both painfully oblivious that their feelings were requited, and it had been hell for the entire office to watch. After another moment of thought, I realized they'd been hovering by the coffee maker together just before my stack of files had pulled my attention away, chatting, leaning into each other, and taking every opportunity to make even the smallest of physical contact.

"Yes, actually, I did. It really is remarkable that neither of them has realized how painfully hard the other is trying to flirt, isn't it?" I mused. Jack huffed.

"Remarkable's one word for it." I looked over at him, and he met my eyes with the same intensity as any of our most serious missions. "We need to do something, Carter."

"What? Jack, you must be kidding."

"Absolutely not. I'm going crazy watching those two every day. It was funny at first, but now it's just annoying, and it's distracting the other agents. I can't imagine it'll take much to push those two towards each other, so... c'mon, let's brainstorm something."

I leaned back in my chair, processing Jack's proposal. It was ridiculous. And Y/N and Daniel would both be furious with us if they knew what we were planning. And yet...

"You know what, Jack? I'm in." I took my feet off his desk and leaned forward instead. "Let's do this."

Jack and I bounced idea after idea off each other, each scheme getting crazier than the last. I couldn't help thinking we would've been better off doing this when we were both much less tired, but it was too late for either of us to back out now.
