Day 23 - Anime You Think Had The Best, Or Most Interesting Art

Mamoru Hosoda Films

This piece of artworks Hosoda makes are simply stunning. You'd think at first sight one of his films is directed by Ghibli, but it's actually by Studio Chizu. All the emotion and character designs put into his films makes it seem like something by Miyazaki, but it's by an animator who's as talented as him.

You can really see the amount of work put into his movies, the plot and characters already being beautiful themselves, but each individual detail is often ignored by watchers since it looks so realistic and detailed. For example, in Wolf Children, the nature life Ame and Yuki are moved into after Hana is worried about authorities finding out about their true identity is animated with great effort put into, and Hosoda does not fail. Every aspect of the wildlife is perfectly depicted, which makes the film ten times more enjoyable.

Some of my favorites, including Wolf Children, are The Girl Who Leapt Through TimeSummer Wars, and upcoming The Boy and the Beast. He was actually commissioned to work in Howl's Moving Castle, another classic Ghibli film, but was taken off in early production stages. It sucks, but I'm still glad that he's made these other fantastic movies, and he's skilled enough to be acknowledged by Ghibli!

Hayao Miyazaki Films

Okay, seriously, who's surprised about this? I've fangirled about Ghibli for my whole life and it's even on my profile.

It's just that Miyazaki is a master in Japanese animation. Like Walt Disney, he's admired by a lot of animators, and inspiring to many upcoming manga artists and directors. His work is always spectacular and wonderful, never failing, since his talent is infinite in the anime industry. If you haven't seen a Ghibli film, go do so now. Seriously. Right. Now. Start with Spirited Away. You won't regret it.

His tales are always wonderful, unique, and full of emotion, and the art proves it. I love all Ghibli films by other directors, don't get me wrong! Tales from Earthsea, which is directed by his son, deserves more recognition, and The Secret World of Arrietty is simply stunning, but I choose Miyazaki's films in general since they make Ghibli what it is now.

The art in every film he makes his beautiful. The shade, shadows, and everyday things you see on objects in the background is greatly drawn. Miyazaki does a lot of odd but inspiring things in order to capture every essence of the animation to make it the best he can—going out into the city to watch everyday things twitch, fly, or swish, visiting old and suburban towns, looking at ancient photos in order to make a film special to a watcher's hearts. That's what I admire about his films.

The nature depicted in Spirited Away, for example, is breathtaking—the forest where Chihiro's parents get stuck in that leads to the spirit world is very beautiful, with aesthetic ecological colors combined to make a sparkling and glowing picture of nature. The ocean that separates the bath house and the other lands is painted elegantly too, never sticking to just one bland color.

But he never just sticks to the "pretty." He can draw gruesome and bloody scenes, and that made me keep watching all of his movies and films.

Still! His creative talent blesses Studio Ghibli, and I'm glad for that <3

Cross Road

Directed by the lovely Makoto Shinkai, nicknamed "the new Miyazaki", it's a beautiful anime everyone should watch. Heck, even if the storyline was crappy (which definitely isn't), I'd still just stare at the screen and watch hours of the simply amazing animation. You can understand why I love this anime once you watch the video.

The anime is absolutely gorgeous—even tiny animals looking like the real deal. Ethereal skies, delicate yet bright sunsets, graceful flowing shimmering seas. It's unexplainable. I could go on and on about this freaking anime.

Perfection, basically.

The end is nigh *-* I can't believe I actually wrote 23 things for this already xD
