Chapter: 3

Tavi.

I woke up the next morning to a soundless room. Usually in the morning Addison would be jumping around the room trying to wake me up or Shayne would be talking loudly on the phone. But today, it was quiet.

I picked myself up out of bed and went into the bathroom to take a nice shower. My body was sore from fighting Shayne last night that I could hardly move. By the time I got out, my body felt a little better but I knew to take it easy this morning. I got dressed in a pair of distressed shorts and a sports bra, before checking on Aubree.

I walked into her nursery and surprisingly she was still sleep. I looked around for a second and things just didn’t seem right. It was like nothing was going how they usually went.

Making my way downstairs, I heard Addison talking to someone. I walked through the house and walked upon the living room, “Addison, why didn’t you wake—,” I stopped in my tracks and looked at the unfamiliar face sitting in my living room.

I titled my head so the side as she sat on the couch with Harlem in her lap and Addison sitting next to her. She seemed to be as calm as can be, opposite to me. I was confused as hell and had to do a double take to make sure what I was seeing was real.

“Mommy, this is Harlem’s mom.” Addison announced, pointing to Trina.

Trina simply smiled as I continued to stand there looking dumbfounded, something that’s coming unwillingly familiar. “Where’s Shayne?”

Addison shrugged her shoulders and went back to playing with Harlem. Trina looked over at me with a normal expression on her face. “He left last night and hasn’t come back since.”

I backed out of the living room and grabbed the cordless house phone that was sitting on the end table in the hallway. I dialed Shayne’s number, forgetting that I broke his phone last night. I hung up and took a deep breath before walking back into the living room.

“What are you doing here?” I questioned.

“Shayne came over to his house last night and something came up.” She grinned a little with her play on play words. “So, here I am. I’ll only be here for a week, that’s all.”

I looked at her, completely confused. Why wouldn’t Shayne wake me up and tell me this so I wouldn’t look dumb in the morning? I don’t know what the hell is going on in Trina’s life right now but something’s gonna have to give. There’s no way she’ll be able to stay here and us be cordial. My nerve with her is a ticking time bomb already and I haven’t seen her in almost a year, but already she’s getting on my nerves.

Before I could say anything I heard Aubree crying on the baby monitor sitting on the end table. I went up the stairs and grabbed her out of her crib and went back downstairs to make her a bottle. The entire time I was just hoping Shayne would walk through the door and explain all of this to me.
