This is a beta version of Enar's Vacation. Changes can - and probably will - be made as a result of reader feedback. I hope you'll enjoy it and I hope you'll take the time to give me some feedback. It will help me make this story the best it can be.

Enar looked up as someone appeared in the door to his office.

"Enar, do you have a moment?" said Neta.

"Yes, sure. How can I help you?" He put down the document he'd been reading, leaned back in his too big chair, and looked up at the woman.

Small for a human, she still stood a head and a half taller than him. Skinny, sharp-eyed, and with straight brown hair - today tied back in a tight bun - the human men considered her beautiful.

Enar had never had any deeper understanding of human tastes. Logically, he knew what their ideals were, but he just didn't see it.

"Are you busy next weekend?"

Frowning, Enar thought for a moment. "No, not really. I don't think so. Why?"

"Good. I need you to come with me as anfylk liaison to the Autumn Festival in Got."

"Uhm... anfylk liaison? Is that something new?"

"Yes. There will be a harvest rave in the fields upriver from Got and I need you there to help facilitate communication with the anfylk contingent of the organizational team."

"Harvest rave?"

"Yes. To cheer up the spirit of the land before the harvest. You know these things Enar. We do them every year."

"Yes." He blushed. "Of course. It's just... you want me to go to a rave?"

"Listen!" Neta walked over, placed both hands on his desk and pinned him to the back of the chair with her eyes. "You're coming - or I will let you know exactly how I feel about men who don't call when they say they will." She sneered at him, spun around, and left the room.

"Oh... crap," said Enar to himself.

He didn't get much more work done that day, and when he left to go home, Mrs Thompson in the reception remarked on how happy he looked.
