There was an unexpected rasp to his voice, a hint of desperation. He stretched out one hand, as if to brush it across my cheek, or perhaps wrap it around my throat.

Lily Burdett has an unfortunate gift for getting herself into tricky situations, but her luck is especially bleak the day she finds herself in the destructive path of the city's premier supervillain. When he grabs ahold of her, she reacts without thinking and stabs him twice in the shoulder, only surviving the encounter thanks to a nearby hero who intervenes on her behalf. Unfortunately, her villain vows to get even. Everywhere she turns, he's there, and with each bizarre encounter more doubts fill her head as to his  true intentions.

Vinicus isn't happy about having to fight a child, but he can't let Max find out. After all, super-villains can't be "good people"... Can they? We can't all be born heroes. I should be dead. At least, that's what the government officials told me in the super-secret lab where I woke up strapped to a mattress in a windowless room...Sound problematic to anyone else? Like I told the psychos experimenting on me, I've got zero clue how I got my new powers, but I'm sure-as-shit not going to let them turn me into a deadly weapon (or squeeze me into a spangly jumpsuit). Shortlisted for the Open Novella Contest 2019 • Being a Supervillain is tough. Between managing a secret lair and making sure your mom doesn't stop loving you because you keep telling everyone she's dead, it's a really hard business to be good at? Add to that, the fact that somehow you got arrested because your cat sitter didn't take the day off and then you go around expressing your unconditional love for pancakes in a Super holding cell because technically they can't put you in a proper prison and you don't really have a choice because lawyers are expensive? And then, you realise your best friend is plotting go take over your spot as the greatest villain there ever was? Okay, maybe not the greatest, but you do come pretty close to it! To top it off, there's that one Superhero who's just so completely gorgeous, you couldn't imagine any harm coming to them? Because they're just that precious? I guess that makes me a Supervillain with minor time travel superpowers and a huge crush on a not so powerful Superhero? And all you have to do is protect yourself and everyone you love from your ex best friend/sidekick --because let's face it that's the highest level of praise for a wretched traitor here--and you also have to get out of Super Holding somehow? What could go wrong? Right?

[Formerly Featured!] Coming back from a vacation, with a gun pointed at her head was definitely not what Jean Saunders expected. Especially seeing a man flying around in the air, claiming to be the city's superhero. At least he wasn't wearing that embarrassing spandex outfit. Alas, due to her capability for getting into trouble, the city's superhero eventually recognises her and not in a good way, at all. Catching a superhero's attention is never a good thing. -------------------------- Opening and closing his mouth, he made some gestures as if he was trying to speak but he couldn't find the words to convey his message. "...what are you?" He finally managed to speak and I blinked my eyes at him. The heck? Does he think I am some sort of...alien? It's not like I'm some kind of weird species!
