Symphony of a Slow Death #PlanetOrPlastic
"One story. An ocean of change."
A woman suffering from dementia experiences a period of clarity in which she reflects on the course of her life and what it has amounted to. Were the actions of one environmental activist enough to combat the global epidemic of plastic pollution?
In 500 words, this short story explores poignant themes of identity, personal responsibility and the detrimental impact of convenient, single-use plastics on the ocean, perhaps the only true wilderness left to our planet. This work is an entry for the #PlanetOrPlastic competition initiated by the @NationalGeographic presence on Wattpad.
Want to make a difference? Here are some ways you can choose our planet over plastic:
1. Swap out your disposable plastics for biodegradable or reusable options! Disposable plastics include grocery bags, straws, cutlery, beverage bottles, coffee cup lids and so forth. These can easily be replaced with paper or stainless steel straws, reusable coffee cups, canvas shopping bags, airtight containers, and more!
2. Recycle what plastics you do use.
3. Raise awareness of plastic pollution. There are many ways to do this, including writing a 500 word story for the #PlanetOrPlastic movement!
