Kamira Marie Raines
East Harlem📍

Kamira woke up and the smell of bacon instantly hit her nose letting her know her grandmother was downstairs cooking breakfast.

Kamira meant it when she said she was going to stay with her grandma. She was tired of living in that house, tired of being under a roof that she didn't want to be under.

She arrived at her grandmother's at 11 o'clock last night. Drenched in rain, from head to toe. She didn't even want to fight with Amira by taking the car so she just decided to walk.

As soon as Evie seen her grand baby on her step she didn't hesitate to welcome her in. She knew it had to be something with her idiot father.

In Evie's head she didn't know where she went wrong with him. Micheal was money hungry, he didn't care about the things that surrounded him, even if it was his children.

If you googled selfish, his picture would be the first thing to pop up.

"Good morning baby," Evie greeted hearing Kamira walk into the kitchen. "How'd you sleep?"

"Morning Granny, and I slept good. That bed is really comfortable," she chuckled sitting down at the table.

"Really? I was thinking of getting rid of that old thing," that bed had been sitting collecting dust.

"Maybe because it's a different mattress then I usually sleep on it felt different to me," Kamira shrugged. "Whatchu cooking?"

"Bacon, eggs, sausage link, grits, potatoes and some waffles. That's enough? Is there anything else you want?"

"No Granny," Kamira chuckled shaking her head. "That is plenty, thank you." Kamira loved her grandmother with all of her heart.

Evie was the exact opposite of her son. She was selfless, she made sure everyone ate before she even picked up her plate. She was old school she believed in a lot of things parents don't teach their kids now a days.

A sweet old lady that kept candy in her purse so when she ran into the kids on the street they could have some sweets. She was truly the heart of the neighborhood, everybody loved her.

The OGs called her mom, the teenagers called her grams and the baby's called her gg. Sunday dinners were truly a show.

"So what's happened? We didn't get a chance to talk last night."

Kamira sighed not knowing where she should start. "Well me and Amira got into a big argument... I haven't talked to her in almost a week. Then, daddy came home last night and he has a new girlfriend and wants us to move with him so he can be with her."

"First off, now matter what you and your got into it about both of y'all need to move past that. Y'all sisters at the end of the day and in the end y'all all eachother gone have," she said and Kamira nodded.

"Now for your father, I don't what that man has going on? He's been gone for two months and comes back saying he wants y'all to move. That girl is corrupting his mind. After yo momma died it was like he lost the little bit of sense he had. You and your sister about to be 18 soon you don't have to move with him if you don't want, you can stay with me until you ready to move out. I don't want you living anywhere you don't want to or you feel uncomfortable. But you needa get a job I know Micheal just been throwing money at y'all."

Kamira nodded understanding everything she was saying. As long as she didn't have to move or live with her father it was fine with her.

"Okay now eat ya breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day," Evie sat the plate down infront of her making her mouth instantly water. "You don't have school today?"

"Yes, but I really just wasn't up to going today," Kamira said with a sigh.

"Mhm okay, just this once. You finish eating. I have to run to grocery and get a few things I'll be right back," she said grabbing her purse off the counter.

"Granny you sure, I can go for you I-"

"No baby it's fine. I look forward to getting out the house, I'll be back in a little bit. Do them dishes while I'm gone," she said Kamira nodded.

After Kamira finished eating she did as she was told doing the dishes. She sighed thinking about available jobs right now, and that would pay good.

She looked over seeing her phone flashing on the kitchen table. She picked up it as Monty's name flashed acrosss her screen. When she answered the FaceTime call Monty's face was close as hell with a mug plastered on his face.

"Mira, where the hell is you at?"

"I'm at my grandma's house Monty," she answered. "Where are you?"

"School somewhere where you need to be," he tilted his head to the side still mugging. "Why you at you Grams?"

"Long story short I'm living with her now," she shrugged.

"What? Since when? Could've sworn I just dropped you off yo house last night and that's where you was living," he said honestly confused.

"My dad wants us to move to Tennessee and I said no I told him I was going to grandmas and he basically told me to not come back," she shrugged again.

"Soooo, you moved out. Do he know you moved out?"

"Yea... no... he'll figure it out eventually," she chuckled.

"Aight, Grams cooking Sunday. I need some real food. Moms been having me fucked lately," he cringed.

"Isn't she always," she nodded.

"You right," he chuckled. "Imma hit chu when I get outta here," he said and she nodded her head before hanging up.

Kamira wondered around the quiet house looking for something to pass the time. She sat down on the living room couch deciding to just watch TV until her grandma got back.

"Oh thank you baby. You didn't have to," Evie's voiced echoed through the house snapping Kamira out of her trance.

"No problem Ms. Evie. It's just a couple bags," a deep said. Kamira stood to her feet wondering who the voice belonged to.

"Go ahead and set them there on the counter," Evie told her.

The unknown man walked past threshold of the living room giving Kamira a glimpse of her. His dark skin, his perfect waves, the way his arms flexed ass he carried the grocery bags made Kamira smile on the inside.

"Mira," Evie called staring at her granddaughter with her hands on her hips. "Come help me put these groceries up," she smirked slightly.

Kamira cleared her throat and nodded following Evie into the kitchen where the unknown man was placing all the groceries down on the kitchen counter.

"Thank you dear," Evie smiled. "Kamira this Cordae, Gladous grand baby. Cordae this my grand baby, Kamira."

"Damn," was what Kamira wanted to say. To say Cordae was fine was an understatement. She was too shy and self conscious to tell him that though.

"Wassup ma, nice to meet ya," his thick Newyork accent almost sent Kamira into overdrive. Kamira looked down at her feet, she wasn't even able to look him in the face.

"Don't mind her, she's just a little shy. She just has to get used to you," Evie smiled at the two. "Mhm... I'll be right back. Stay right here so I can get these cards for Gladous," she rushed off.

Kamira shook her head. She knew what her grandmother was doing. Evie was like Cupid. Ghetto Cupid.

"She a trip," Cordae chuckled.

"Yea... she is," she chuckled nodded.

"You know what she cooking Sunday? She won't tell me talking bout it's a surprise," he said shaking his head.

"No," Kamira shook her head. "She never tells me either. She lives for our misery."

"Thats what a nigga saying," he chuckled. "You from over here? I ain't ever seen you around before."

"I am," she nodded. "I just don't come out the house a lot," she shrugged.

"Home body huh?" He said and she nodded again. "Me too, ion really like big crowds and shit."

"Me too... only time I come out the house if it's with my bestfriend. He thinks I'm crazy or something," she chuckled.

"Sound like my homeboy, Chi," he nodded.

"Okay here," Evie came back down the steps with an envelope in her hand. "I'll see you Sunday?"

"Fashooo, you know I'm here," he nodded. "I'll see you later," he gave Evie a side hug. "Nice meeting you Kamira."

"You too," she waved as he walked off towards the front door.

"Cute huh?"

"Bye Granny," Kamira laughed loudly.

"He's a good boy, Mira."

"Okay, I hear you," She laughed even more.

"He's single too... no kids... no drama... he got a legal job... he-"

"Granny! Stop I'm not finna go out with that boy," she laughed.

"I didn't say that... I was just telling you about him."

"Sure you were," Kamira shook her head. Evie really a trip.
