J I M I N
Today is a big day. I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna propose to Mina. It's been about a year since we started seeing each other, but I'm ready to take the next step.
Today is the Mnet Asian Music Awards, one of the biggest award shows out there. I volunteered to be one of the MCs. I already know who's going to be winning most of the awards.
My plan is to announce artist of the year, which is usually the last award and the winner should be Twice. I'll stay on stage until they finish their speech, ask Mina to stay on stage, I'll say a few words, and then propose and if all goes well, she'll say yes.
Hopefully everything goes according to plan. I rehearsed what I want to say to her about a million times in my head, but I'm probably going to forget everything once she's standing right in front of me.
I know what I want to say and hopefully at that moment, it just comes from my heart. I wanted to tell Jihyo-ssi about it so they're not confused when it happens. I called her the other day.
"Hello? Jimin-ssi?"
"Yes, hi, Jihyo-ssi, I'm just calling to tell you something."
"Okay, what is it?"
"So the Mnet awards are coming up and I wanted to tell you about my, um...plan."
"Plan?"
"You see, that night, I'm planning on proposing to Mina."
"Really? Woah, alright, then what was your plan?"
"So I'm gonna be an MC for the show, and I'll be announcing an award that you guys will win."
"Okay..."
"I was going to ask Mina to stay on stage when you'd usually leave, and then propose to her."
"Aw, that's really nice, Jimin."
"I just wanted to tell you so you wouldn't be confused at the show."
"Alright, I'll tell the others so they know too. Well, except for Mina of course."
"Thank you, Jihyo-ssi. I really appreciate it."
When we were getting ready for the show, I had my M bracelet on and my stylist told me I couldn't wear it. I took it off for the red carpet, but put it back on after we got inside. In the back of my head, I was hoping that Mina would wear her bracelet too.
Usually, at award shows, I'd be looking for Mina to say hi, but I was busy with MC things and I didn't want to see her until the big moment.
I was anxious throughout the whole show. Whenever I was on stage to announce something, I was trembling just because the moment kept getting closer and closer.
I couldn't see her in the crowd, but I knew Mina's eyes were on me when I was on that stage.
The show was really long. During the performances, I had to stay backstage so I couldn't watch them. BTS didn't have our own stage this time because we were too busy to put something together.
I kept checking to make sure the ring box was still in my pocket. The last thing I'd want is to propose to Mina without a ring.
The show was coming to an end and I had to announce the winner of the last award.
I spoke into the mic, trying to keep my voice as steady as possible.
"This last award goes to a very special artist. Artist of the year this year had a lot of competition, there are so many amazing artists out there. Here are the nominees."
The VCR played on the big screens while the lights dimmed.
I had the envelope in my hand.
"The Artist of the Year award goes to..."
I did the dramatic envelope opening, even though I already knew who was going to win.
"Twice!" Their most popular song of that year starts playing as all nine of them make their way onto the stage.
I walked to the back of the stage and waited by the side curtain.
"We are so grateful to be standing here on this stage again." Jihyo says, "We want to thank our producers, our managers, our staff, our lovely friends, and of course Once!"
The crowd cheers.
"Thank you for an amazing year and to many more years to come!" Jihyo glances around the stage until she found me in the corner.
I nod when we made eye contact.
They started walking off the stage and I quickly stepped out again.
"One second, Mina-ssi will you please hold on for a moment." I said into the mic.
I called her "Mina-ssi" just because we were on stage and in a formal setting.
She stopped and looked at her other members, confused, but they nudged her to stay on the stage.
Whenever we're at these big events, we have to pretend like we're not dating, but today is different.
"Oppa, what are you doing?" Mina says so only I could hear.
I didn't answer that.
"Sorry to hold up the show, but I have something I've wanted to say." I say for everyone to hear.
The crowd begins to murmur.
I take a deep breath.
"Myoui Mina, the day that we met, I immediately felt a strong connection between us." I say, taking her hand. She was wearing her J bracelet.
She looked just as nervous as I did.
"Every second we spend together is unforgettable." I look her in the eyes. She doesn't look away.
"I love who you are and the things you do. I love you. There's nothing I would ever change about you."
She looks at me, her expression seemed to say, "Where is this going?"
"I know we only started dating last year, but I loved you way before that...and...now I want to spend the rest of my life with you." I started getting emotional, but I held it in.
I put the microphone in my pocket and pull the ring box out of my other pocket. Now, only she could hear me.
I get down on one knee, the audience gasps, Mina had her hand over her mouth.
"My heart is, and always will be, yours." I open the small red box.
We were both on the verge of tears.
"Myoui Mina...will you marry me?" I finally ask. I never let go of her hand. I was shaking so much.
Actions speak louder than words.
To my relief, she nods. The audience cheers once again. I stand up and Mina immediately hugs me. We wipe away each other's tears, smiling uncontrollably.
I slide the ring onto her finger. It fit perfectly.
I kiss my fiancé for the first time.
The audience makes more noise.
I wasn't expecting it, but music started playing as we left the stage.
We made it back stage. The show was already over so people began leaving the venue.
Mina hugs me again in the hallway.
"I can not believe you just did that." She says, slightly laughing.
"Neither can I." I smile.
Our two groups eventually found us back stage.
"You two are gonna make me cry!" Hoseok-hyung says as they approach us.
"Congrats!!"
"I can't believe it! We're so happy for you two!"
"Jimin, your little speech made everyone emotional!"
Words can not describe how happy I am right now. This is just another beginning.
I can't wait to spend the rest of my days with the love of my life.
