Hi guys… yeah I'm… still on mental break.
I'm only posting this chapter because it's truly worth posting.
The fires in Australia are destroying
everything, including lives.
Worst of all? No one is talking about it.

Y/n's POV (1st Person)
"Thanks for picking me up Ame…" I said softly as I slipped into the passenger's seat.
"No problem." He replied, starting the engine and beginning the drive.
"How's he doing? I mean, not good
obviously…. But...you know…" I said, my voice fading out.
"He's been better, still being Aussie though. Still his obnoxious cheerful self…"
"I hope he's happy with me surprising him…"
"He loves you almost as much as his snake, he'll be overjoyed. Oh also, you'll be a good excuse to get him in ah… a better mood. You'll see
what I mean."
"I'm sure I will…" I sighed, playing with the box in my lap.
"Here we are… my house…. Oh, and don't worry about the kids. Only a few of them are here this week.”
I nodded.
“I'm sure it will be fine.”
We drove in silence for the rest of the ride until we finally pulled up to Ame’s house.
“He's up on the fourth floor, next to my room.” America said as we got out of the car and walked up the stairs to the front door.
It opened for us.
“Hi Maryland.” America greeted. “Where you off to buddy?”
The the state shrugged.
“Just getting out of the house.”
I watched as Ame raised an eyebrow at the young adult.
“Mhm… you be back before dark.” He said, crossing his arms. “And don't do anything illegal.”
“Relax dad… I’m fine…” He said, dodging Ames hair ruffle. “And I'm not a kid dad! You don't have to do that, you'll mess up my hair, and you’ll accidentally touch the flag!”
He quickly headed down the stairs and out of sight.
“Kid thinks he's all that.” He chuckled, showing me inside.
We headed up the stairs to where my boyfriend was.
My heart pounded in my chest as we got closer.
I hoped he was okay.
He had to be okay.
“Were here…” He said as we came to the door. “You… alright?”
I nodded slowly.
Ame opened the door.
My heart sank.
The love of my life lay there, half asleep on the bed.
His body was covered in ointments and bandages, you could see the burns and marks in his arms.
He wore only a plain white t-shirt and some shorts. It was eerie to see him without his jacket and gear and hat.
He let out a small cough and he winced as smoke danced from his mouth.
“Y/n?” He said, noticing me, his usual grin flashing across his face.
“Hiya Aussie…” I smiled.
“I'll leave you to it.” I heard Ame say behind me, shutting the door.”
“I look horrible I know…” He managed a shaky laugh which turned into a sickening cough. “Come here..”
I walked over to him and sat on a chair next to him as he managed to sit up in the bed, much to my protesting.
“Aussie what am I going to do with you.”
“No idea. Just love me I guess.” He chuckled. “What's in the box?”
“Oh…” I glanced down in the gift box in my hands.
“Here, I’ll open it for you.” I said quickly, looking over the bandages that covered his blue, now scarred skin.
I opened the package and pulled out the items.
“Tims Tams!” He exclaimed. “Open it for me?”
I opened them and gently popped one into his mouth.
“Mmmmmm..” He sighed. “You're amazing y/n.”
“I know.” I giggled, pulling out the other item. “I bought a new plant for Canberra’s tank. I hope she’ll like it.”
“Nothing makes that python happier then fake plants. She’ll love it.” He gave me a smile.
“And… how are you holding up.” I asked gently, questioningly.
“Just great.” He said, giving me an attempted thumbs up but wincing and putting his hands back down.
“Aus… don't do that again.. Don't hurt yourself..” I said, giving his head a light peck.”
“I'll try not to.” He reassured me teasingly.
The door opened and our heads turned.
“Sorry. Just bringing some water.” Said a female state as she entered the room.
Her face was white with a grizzly bear and had a red star in the corner and a red stripe along the bottom. The words ‘California Republic’ were written across her face, saving me from the embarrassment of me not being able to recognize her immediately.
“Hello California.” I said as she entered.
“Cali is fine.” She said with a shrug. “Here you go Uncle Aus.”
She gently set down a pitcher of water and a glass on the bedside table next to me.
“Thanks Cali.” Aus said with his signature smile. “You’re definitely the best niece ever right now.”
“What are you talking about? I've always been the best niece.” She said with a wink, tossing her hair.
“Just if you need more water just text.” The teen offered. “Burning isn't really fun. I’ve…. been through it myself ...yeah… See you later!”
She left the room, shutting the door behind her.
“Water?” Aussie asked, I watched his expression grew hungry at the sight of the water.
“Of course.” I said, filling up the glass with crisp, cool water and handing it to him.
He took it from me quickly, drinking it almost desperately.
“More.”
I gave him a glass after glass until he’d finished the pitcher.
“Aus, you shoulnt drink so fast… I don't want you to-”
He fell into a fit of coughing, smoke poured from his mouth as he coughed.
“Hey, whoa, Aus… shhh…. Its okay…” I said gently, wiping his mouth with my sleeve.
We stayed there for a moment, his eyes looking deeply into mine.
“You know how I said I was fine?” He said softly.
“You're not fine..” I replied.
He nodded.
“Im burning up… its so so hot.. And people are getting hurt y/n. People are dying and I… I can't make it stop.”
He looked so sad and hurt my heart broke for him.
This wasn't my Aus.
“Hey… Aus… you're gonna get through this okay? You're so so strong. And I love you.”
“Love you too y/n. Even if my worlds on fire.”
A/n: I hope all my Aussies out there reading this are doing okay. Im really worried about you guys.
Also, to my American and Middle Eastern friends, I know it's been scary with all the threats and airstrikes that are going on. I don't want to get political here, so ill leave it at that. If anyone wants to talk about their worries or concerns, im here for you.
