Year 5

When my uncle and I arrived to the hospital room, we found that both my mother and new baby brother were sound asleep. Only my father was awake to greet us. He had given me a peck on my forehead before picking me up to be carried.

"Theryn, how was the drive?" Father asked Uncle, to which he just shrugged. I agree, there wasn't much to say about it except that it's a long, long drive away from City X. Added with the extra hour of traffic, it took a grand total of five hours to get here. If only there was enough hours in the day to get to and from City X, but since there are not, I am forced to stay the night, though, I suppose that is not the worst case scenario. I have been meaning to bring my collection of stuffed animals to fill up my very empty room, after all.

"Ah! That's right, I met Ulrices on the way up." Uncle tells my father. I could see father's eyes brighten with delight, but I just watch silently and continued to listen to their conversation.

"Really? What was he doing here?"

"It's seems that his son, Xael, has acquired an arm injury."

"I see...I should send a 'get well soon' gift, then."

"That would be a good idea."

I stopped listening to their conversation after that. After all, if they're only going to be talking about the father-son duo, then I want it to be none of my business!

...

Wait...

What is this horrid memory of mine that I am suddenly recalling? Gosh...

I subconsciously let out a sigh, causing both my father and uncle to look over to me.

What? What? Father! Uncle! Look away! There's nothing to be seen here! Go! Go! Shoo! Shoo!

"Rynnie? Why're you sighing like that?" My father asks.

I blink once. Then twice. "Daddy, I'm just tired from the car ride."

Patting my back lightly, my father nodded in understanding before fixing my position in his arms like a baby.

"Sleep, when you wake up, Mommy will be awake as well." He gently pet my head, soothing me to sleep, like a lazy cat.

I suppose it would be better to sleep than to think of all of the disasters that are yet to come...
