『 Year 8 』

I had a plan when I first started attending Rosenphael which was to avoid coming into contact with the first and second male lead of the novel. Of course, that plan fell through and somehow I befriended the two and even made an additional friend at Litheon's birthday party.

The rest of the semester had been filled with Isa and Litheon's bickering and insults so much so that they were not allowed to come to my birthday party. Cold to say, but I did not mind in the slightest. Some part of me didn't want Fleur and Litheon to meet just yet. It just didn't seem as though it was the right time.

The result of the guest list? It was narrowed down to Fleur, Instructor Irold, the Alpheus family, Kaine, and my relatives. When Fleur saw the new additions to the guest list, she was thoroughly shocked to say the least.

"Ryenne, who are all these people?" She asked me. I glanced over at her and saw that she was looking specifically at Instructor Irold and Xael's grandfather. They stood in their traditional kimonos and intimidatingly tall statures, their faces stoic and indifferent. Somehow, they looked as though they could be fraternal twins.

"Uh...well the man in the dark blue kimono is Instructor Irold. The other man in the green kimono is my friend's grandfather. I think my dad invited him." I whispered to her. She just slightly nodded as she hid behind me. "I think I'll go find Granny Esme..."

She scurried off in a hurry, eager to reunite with the only other familiar face. In contrast, I didn't budge and just stood like a statue with a beautiful smile pasted on my face. Ryun had insulted me whilst Ryon just patted my head like a dog three times without a word and only a smile. When Kaine arrived, he greeted me with a bright smile, giving me a bear hug and pinching my cheeks.

"Wow, Little Ryenne, your eyes are so pretty!" He tells me as he hold my face in his warm hands. I could feel my face heating up as my lips stretched even wider than it already been. "Hehe, thank you, Older Brother Kaine!"

He gives my cheeks one last pinch before walking off towards my cousins, but as I watched leave, I couldn't help but think that he hadn't realized that he was also complimenting my family's eye color.

The next person to greet me was Xael's grandfather, Mel Alpheus. He gave me a bright smile as he knelt down to my height.

"I've been meaning to meet you, Little Rynnie." He tells me as he patted my head lovingly. "You can call me Grandpa Mel, okay?"

Despite his gruff appearance, he was very warm and his aura was very comfortable to be around.

"Okay, Grandpa Mel!" I found the words easily leave my mouth, not feeling foreign at all, but the feeling I got from it was. I was never able to meet my own grandfathers as both had long passed away before I was brought into this world, so being able to call someone that, even if I'm not biologically related to them, is a feeling that I am unable to explain.

Soon, Xael appeared before me with a seemingly bitter expression on his face. After months of being together, he has loosened up quite a bit, now showing his expressions freely. "Why is it that Grandpa is so nice to you, but he's always so strict on me, attacking me with Taekwondo moves every second he could get."

He pouts as he lets out a sigh. I could only laugh at his misfortune. "Don't be so jealous, Xael. I'm just that much more lovable than you!"

Of course I was joking. Grandpa Mel must really love Xael if he goes out of his way to spend time with him, even if the circumstances are a bit strange.

Once I've greeted all of the guests, the small party finally started. With mini games, songs, and fruit taste-testing, the day went on without a hitch. Well, at least most of it did.

Fleur had met Xael for the first time, and whilst he was indifferent to her, she was both in awe and intimidated. She had blurted our her inner thoughts, "He's so handsome!"

I could see Xael's left eye twitch as he turned to me and asked just loud enough for me to hear, "Where did you find this friend of yours?"

I couldn't help the fits of giggles that I failed to suppress as Fleur's face turned bright red and Xael's eyes glared at me.

"Don't ask unnecessary questions." I waved his question away as I turned to Fleur with a laughing expression.

"Fleur...You're so funny!" I tell her as I find myself laughing another round.
