You had a different reason for joining Team Rocket than everyone else. You believed that some people didn't deserve pokemon and others did. You were a Robin Hood sort of character, but because you had morals you were assigned to the lowest group in your organization. Your job was to explore new regions and catch new pokemon all the while trying to topple the organizations that already existed there. You remember Jessie and James from the academy (yes you had an academy, and yes it sucked), Jessie was constantly trying to be with the popular girls and whenever she was gone they would make remarks behind her back. You knew there was no reasoning with girls like Jessie so you didn't bother talking to her. Instead you were kinda in the corner, reading your textbooks and getting ahead of your schoolwork. James, also being a lonely kid, you both kinda gravitated towards each other. James was more of a music listener who peeked at your books every once in awhile but didn't really say anything. You were fine with it, but sometimes you just wanted to say something to the little purple-haired sorta-emo. But being the introvert you were you always chickened out at the last minute and the times you hung out continued to remain silent. The only friend you really had besides James was Chimchar, your partner and best buddy. You didn't really let them come out of their pokeball during your cadet days. Though you did when you had more time off and you were able to go in the woods surrounding the campus more often. When you first got into the group with them you were surprised how much they changed (every cadet was given two months off for free-range training before being assigned), especially James. He seemed more open and happier than the smol emo child you remember. Though it seemed like he totally forgot you, but then again it was 2 months, you tried not to let it get to you.

"Do you have a name or should I call you mine?" James asks, a hand over his heart and a twinkle in his eye, *slap*.
"Aww man, what was wrong with that one?" James questions, rubbing his cheek from where you slapped him.
"Sounded too douchey"
"...that's what you say about all of them..." James pouts, sitting on the log with you, he was still rubbing his cheek.
"Oh come on! I didn't hit you that hard! Your such a wimp! Besides, you were the one who came to me for help, remember?" James' pout deepened at your remark. Though what you said was true, he did express wanting a girlfriend to you and asked you for help on how to get one (I mean he is a wimp too...). So here you were, practicing pickup lines while it was Jessie's turn to get lunch and Meowth went with her to make sure she didn't eat all of it.
"Not all of them, just most of them, can you not use the cheesy ones you obviously got from the internet?" You question, already seeing James looking up cheesy pickup lines on his phone. He quickly realized that you caught him and shoved the phone in his pocket.
"Shut up! This stuff is really hard you know!"
"So you say, but it really isn't. You just gotta be confident dude."
"Confident huh?"
"Yeah, shouldn't be so hard for someone with such a big head"
"Nooo! That's the thing I'm sensitive about!" You laughed as James covered his head with his arms.
"Dude I'm joking! You don't actually have a big head, if anyone does it's Jessie!" You laugh, James laughed a little too before looking up and seeing your current topic of conversation.
"Umm...(Y/N)..."
"You little...what did you say?!" You stopped laughing, realizing that Jessie heard it, and looked pissed.
"A...aha...hey Jessie...h...how're ya...?" You question with a sweatdrop, knowing very well how much trouble you were in. You then ran off the log and Jessie began chasing you as you begged for mercy and apologized a million times.

"Pumkaboo! Shadow Ball!"
"Today's the day we catch Pikachu for sure!"
"Team Rocket!"
"Wobuffet!"
"You know, I sometimes think these trainers are smart, but then they say stupid stuff like that. I mean we're obviously here, and who're you announcing that too anyway? It's not like they're people watching us or anything" you comment in the corner of the hot air balloon.
"Chimchar!" Chimchar agrees with you.
"Pikachu! Thunderbolt!"
"We're blasting off again!"
"Already!?!?!"
"Totally called it!" You claim as you flew through the air, true to your word during breakfast. You ended up landing not too far away from your hot air balloon. You hit multiple branches on your way down, shattering each one as you let out a grunt, before being able to catch one finally. You gripped it like your life depended on it.
"This is it Chimchar! This is how I'm going to die!"
"Chim, Chimchar?" Chimchar questions, which made you open your eye and seeing the ground was barely even a foot drop.
"Oh hey, the ground, nice!" You grin, dropping down easily as Chimchar scrambled to your shoulder.
"Man..." Meowth grumbles.
"They made quicker work of us than usual..." James mopes.
"Yeah, because we're doing the same thing over and over, I was literally telling you the other day how we should change things up a little, try something different, but no. You guys think doing the same thing over and over is going to yield a different result. You do realize that's the definition of insanity right?"
"Yeah we followed your advice once and do you remember what happened?" Meowth fires back.
"Please, that wasn't my fault, besides you didn't get shaved that much"
"That much?! That much?! There was more hair off my body than on it!"
"Ugh, don't remind me, you without hair is scary" James shudders as you agreed with him.
"Yeah we can get Jessie's opinion on this, I'm sure she'll want to try something different, right Jessie?" You question and waited for several seconds, no response.
"Do you think she's...."
"Wait I wanna try something to make sure" you cupped your hands over your mouth.
"Jessie's haircut sucks!!" You shout at the top of your lungs before cupping your hands over your ears and waiting for a response, still nothing.
"Yep, we lost her" you confirm, which automatically made James and Meowth's faces turn panicked.

"Unless if Thanos fingersnapped her..." you mutter.
"What was that?"
"Nothing!"
"Hey! What's that?"

"There!"
"Where's there?"
"Oh for crying out loud! Look that way!" Meowth pointed for you and you put up your binoculars to see Jessie.
"Jessie!? In those clothes!?"
"That's a weird getup, even for her"
"And she changed her hairstyle, weird. Who's that guy with her? He's cute"
"Let's take a closer look!"
"Rightey O!"
"Alright, alright, I'm down. Maybe that cute guy has a brother."
"Would you stop with the cute guy stuff?!"
"Make me!"

"I've decided, I'm quitting Team Rocket so I can live my life with Dr. White forever"
"What?!"
"Run that by me again!"
"Jessie, no"
"Wow, talk about dedication"
"Maybe Jessie ate a bad berry, I'll go snap her out of it"
"Stop, maybe she'll be better off"
"Did you eat a bad berry too?"
"Listen, if Jessie's only trying to find a little bit of happiness for herself maybe we shouldn't stand in her way. After all that's what real friends would do, wouldn't they? Look, Wobuffet's having a blast too."
"What?! You can't be serious! What about you (Y/N)?!"
"As great as it is having another girl on the team, if this is what Jessie really wants, then who are we to stop her? At least she found someone..." you sigh, looking over at James for a quick second. You wonder if he really did remember you, somewhere in that tiny brain of his.
"Alright, I get it, let's get outta here" you guys ran before Jessie noticed you.

"Hey (Y/N), do you wanna know why I asked for your advice?" James asks you.
"Hmm? Why you got a special someone too?"
"...sort of..."
"What?! This is news to me!"
"Because I've never told anyone before, but back at the academy I wasn't really that social. There was this one girl, even though we haven't talked, not even a word. I felt like I knew everything about her. Except for her name. So I hope that next time I see her, maybe we could actually...talk." You began to laugh, James was such a big idiot it was almost laughable, no it was laughable.
"Hey! Why're you laughing!?"
"B...because...t...that w...was...me...i...idiot..." you howled, gasping for air.
"Ok if that was true what band did I listen to?" James questions as you calmed down.
"All Time Low, and Fallout Boy, your music was pretty loud dude" you grinned.
"Well...why didn't you say anything before?!"
"Because...I thought you forgot about me-"
"Hey guys! Check it out! It's a pokemon trap!"
"Probably set by that pokemon hunter everyone's talking about"
"In the flesh, and it looks like I found the greatest of all prey. A talking Meowth and a Chimchar."
"You gotta do better than that"
"We're the new streamline Team Rocket, you aren't going to steal our pokemon"
"Yeah you can try to take Chimchar, but it ain't happening buddy."
"Let's go Rhyperior!"
"Ok...that's a little big...but we can still do this!"

"Is the Doctor in?"
"Yes!" James emerged from the bushes, half-carrying you in his arms.
"What happened?!"
"Whoa, is she going to be ok?!"
"Meowth and all our pokemon were stolen, we were attacked by that wily pokemon hunter."
"Chimchar...Chimchar's gone..." you mumble, barely being able to cope with that fact, James cast you a sad glance before turning to the twerps.
"Just for one day I don't want to ask Jessie for help to get back Meowth and the others. I know it's a lot to ask but...will you help us?"
"Yes, but where is the pokemon catcher"
"At the foot of the mountain, we'll take you, right (Y/N)?" You nodded and quietly got up, though James had to put his arm around you to keep you steady.

"I'll be right back, just stay here and rest up" James tells you quietly, you grabbed his hand.
"James...you'll bring Chimchar back to me...right?" You question, your eyes tearing up against your will. James nodded.
"I will, just get some rest"
"Ok..." you agreed as you let your grip on his hand go.

You woke up to a warmth on your cheek.
"Chimchar....Chimchar! Oh thank Arceus your safe! I got so scared!" You hugged your partner half to death, just so relieved that they weren't taken.
"I'm not letting you go again buddy got that? I'm with ya to the end"
"Chimchar, Chimchar, Chim!"
"Hey, I'm here too, no hello for me?" Jessie questions.
"Jessie! Your back too! I really didn't want to be the only girl in this lot of boneheads!" You hugged Jessie, tight and hard, even lifting her a little bit before taking in where you were.
"Hey!"
"Um, how did I get up here?"
"You were knocked out like a scatterbug after a battle with a delphox. So we fixed up the balloon and got in the air before Chimchar woke you up, too bad though, I kinda liked the quiet." Meowth mutters the last part, making you stick our your tongue a little bit.
"Please, I bet you if I left the team like Jessie you would be bawling out your eyes for days"
"Would not!"
"Would too!"
"Not!"
"Too!"
"Not!"
"Too!"
"Ok guys that's enough...how about we do something else, like play a board game?"
"A board game? We don't have any board games"
"Oh, well how about we just enjoy this crystal clear night then?" James suggests, you made a dash for the nearest edge as you looked out at the stars and the view. James stood next to you and you turned to look at him as Chimchar tugged on Jessie's skirt while signaling for her to be quiet so she could have a 'watch and learn' moment.
"(Y/N)...I apologize that I didn't recognize you sooner...your so different than when you were in the academy"
"Is different a bad thing?" You question.
"No, not at all" you and James exchanged a smile before you began to look out at the stars once again. James looked at the purple rose as he twirled it between his fingers. Jessie already told him what happened to Dr. White, how she didn't get to tell him how she felt in time.
"Your pretty and I'm cute, together we can be pretty cute" you looked over at James, who cringed, ready to be slapped but you took the rose from his outstretched hand and kissed his cheek quickly.
"Not bad, loverboy" you snickered at James' red and flustered face and how he was absolutely frozen. It was from multiple things, but the change in nickname was the thing that made him freeze up. He snapped out of it and took his original place next to you. Admiring at how you stared at the landscape with a wistful look in your eye as you twirled the rose, only bringing it up to sniff every once in awhile. James reached over and put his hand over yours, you stiffened before looking over at him. "Loverboy...our hands..." "So?" "Huh, look at that, you can be confident after all" you chuckle, leaning your head on his shoulder as you looked at the view together.
Yeah, Merry Christmas to everyone! I'm surprised I got this out so fast to be totally honest, but I hope this oneshot was well worth the wait. But unfortunately this cycle is over so you guys will probably be getting some birthday oneshots, headcanons and preferences until the next cycle. But until next time and a ho ho ho my dudes!
