You and Rex were casually strolling around in the park talking. Rex laughed at a story you just told him and you snorted and laughed along, you looked back at Rex and your heart practically melted. It was a moment just like this where you realized you loved the EVO boy. But you could remember clearly how you two met.
-Flashback-
"Anyone else!?" You call with a grin, dribbling the ball casually as you looked around at all the reluctant faces, not wanting to challenge you to a one on one. It wasn't that you were a bad person, it was just that you were very competitive during sports, especially basketball. And you were tired of these posers pushing you around.
"I'll go" you immediately recognized him from the news
"One on one buddy, and no special EVO powers" he nodded and got on the field across from you. Noah was still trying to talk him out of it as he held the ball in the air ready to toss it for either of you to take. Rex wasn't having any of it and continued to play you over and over again until you both ended up super tired and you could barely bounce the ball twice. By then practically everyone gave up and went home. You called it a tie and for the next week you've played against each other until one day you approached him.
"You got game buddy, I haven't seen someone with that kind of persistence from any of the other guys. I beat their ass once and they don't even try to challenge me for a week. You, I beat you and you just keep going."
"Is that supposed to be a compliment? Because it didn't sound like one."
"Yes, name's (Y/N), (Y/N) (L/N)" you held out your hand to him and he shook it.
"Rex Salazar, this is my friend Noah and Bobo"
-Flashback end-
"(Y/N)!" Rex nudged you in the ribs when you wouldn't respond.
"Huh? What is it Rex?"
"Whatcha thinking about? You've been kinda quiet" Rex comments.
"About how we first met" you answer.
"Yeah, you're practically a monster when you play basketball"
"You flatter me" you comment sarcastically.
"Har, Har. But I know you actually liked the compliment"
"Pfft, so you going to come over tonight for video games?" You ask, changing the subject.
"Yeah, I'll be there, but who else is coming?"
"Noah, Claire and Wendy"
"Oh cool"
"I originally wanted four people because I have four controllers, but it'll be awkward if it's just Noah and Claire because they'll be doing all their coupley crap and we'll have to be forced to watch."
"Yeah, good call, at least us singles will have one more single friend to complain to am I right?!" Rex jokes, nudging you in the ribs.
"Please, you're on t.v like all the time, everyone knows you and you have your own fan base, you could get a girlfriend in a second if you want one" you tell him.
"Yeah I know...but I don't want someone who loves me for what I am, I want someone who loves me for who I am." Rex told you nonchalantly.
"Yeah, same" you hesitantly looked up at Rex when he was looking away. You never met anyone like him before and you doubt you ever will. You fell for him, hard, even if he didn't know it. But you didn't want him to know, the reason being that you were afraid that if he found out you loved him, he would leave you and you would be lonely again. So you kept your mouth shut and watched from the sidelines, opting to be friends with him, for now. You looked away before he noticed and he began to tell you about his fight with an E.V.O yesterday.
-Timeskip-
"Haha! I won!" Rex grins as you look at the leaderboard.
"Shut up, everyone knows you hacked the system through your gun so you knew where everyone else was" you brush him off as you left the laser tag place.
"Yeah Rex"
"That so was not what happened. I'm just really good with aim that's all, it's just like my shoulder cannon"
"I saw your hand glow on the gun with your hacking pattern!" Rex opened his mouth then closed it.
"Ok, maybe I did cheat a little..."
"Psht! A little is an understatement"
"I thought it was fun, and nothing got set on fire this time!"
"This time!? What happened the other times?!" Noah freaks out.
"Do you really want to know?" Claire asks and Noah sighs.
"No"
"Thought so" she ruffled Noah's blonde hair and giggled at the pout he gave her.
-Timeskip-
"Rex are you ok? You look...upset. Did (Y/N) beat you 42-0 in basketball again?"
"No Doc it's just...what if, hypothetically, there's someone you love, you really love but you realize it at the most random moment. And you realize you would do anything for that person, but what if you're also afraid that just by loving them they'll be put in danger? What would you do?"
"I don't know Rex, that's up to you, hypothetically" Holiday winks, knowing exactly who he was talking about.
-Timeskip-
Now it was New Years, the ball was about to drop and you were looking for Rex through the sea of people. Finally having the courage to confess to him, after all what was more romantic than a New Years' kiss?
"Three!" You spotted his goggles in a small secluded area, you walked forward, your heart pounding in your chest.
"Two!" Now you saw his face and you were so close to him.
"One!" You called his name but it was lost among the crowd, when you finally got to him you heard your heart shatter.
"Happy New Year!" You were to late, he was kissing Wendy and he looked, happy. Tears pricked the corners of your eyes and you took a step back. You were so close, you were so close to telling him, you finally worked up the courage and it only led to heartbreak. You knew this day was coming, but you didn't think it would be so soon, when you were so close. You took a few more steps back before disappearing into the crowd.
-Timeskip-
After crying to Noah all day about your failed attempt to tell Rex he comforted you, but soon had to leave for a date with Claire. So you left, your eyes were still a little puffy and you still sniffled a little, seeing a t.v store broadcasting the latest news report with Rex in it, you sighed and walked to a coffee shop, standing in line. Not seeing the guy in front of you discreetly look at you before doing a double take.
"Damn, I thought this was a coffee shop but it turns out to be a museum because there's a work of art right behind me" he comments loud enough for you to hear. Your cheeks turned pink.
"I think you've mistaken me. I'm not modern art, I'm trash" you answer.
"Who said you were modern? I thought you were a greek sculpture of Aphrodite"
"Oh my god" you put a hand over your mouth, not believing this guy's smoothness but also cheesiness.
"So you're not Aphrodite?"
"No, my name is (Y/N)
"(G/N), may I buy you a coffee?"
"Uh...if you really want to..."
"It would be my pleasure" he smiled at you and you took a step so you were next to him. You began making small talk and he seemed nice enough. You even felt comfortable enough to tell him about what just happened on New Years, while keeping it anonymous.
"Well I feel bad for your friend, he terribly missed out"
"You think so?"
"I do, but there seems to be something wrong with my phone"
"And that is?"
"It doesn't have your number in it"
"Let me fix it then" you took his phone and put your number in it.
"Uh, say, are you free this Friday? Say six o'clock?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Do you know Marty's?"
"The diner?"
"Yeah, meet me there friday night. I'll take you out on a date you won't ever forget."
"Alright"

"You have a date friday?"
"Yep"
"With who?"
"(G/N)" you answer. You and Rex were playing a casual game of basketball.
"Well it just so happens I have a date friday with Wendy, wanna double date?"
"I don't think that'll work out to well..." for my heart
"Oh yeah, you might wanna know (G/N) a little more, where did you guys meet again?"
"Coffee shop"
"Ah yeah you'll definitely want to get to know him more." His phone beeped and he checked it.
"Oh I gotta go, Providence stuff again. I'll check you later" he tossed the ball to you and you caught it.
"And (Y/N)?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm glad you were able to find someone" then he took off with his jetpack build. So...he really is happy with her, and not with me, he didn't even try to do anything...I guess I really do have to let him go...
-Timeskip to Friday-
"I'm so going to win this for you" Rex tells Wendy as she giggles.
"You can't even score a hoop on a regular game, what makes you think you can win this?" Wendy asks.
"Watch and learn" Rex grins, taking the ball and missing the hoop, he sighed but Wendy tried to stifle her laughter.
"Maybe I could try?" She suggests, Rex took a step away from the booth which allowed her to take another basketball and score it perfectly, Rex gaped at her going back from her to the hoop and back to the hoop.
"How?"
"(Y/N) used to help me get better at basketball" she answers Rex felt his heart drop, he prayed that he wouldn't hear your name again, because whenever he hears your name he remembers how you moved on. Maybe you really didn't like him. Rex snapped himself out of it, he was on a date with Wendy, he couldn't think about that kind of stuff right now.
"So what next?"
"Oh my gosh cotton candy!" Rex paid for cotton candy for the both of them and they went to the boardwalk.
"I always love the ocean at this time of day it's so peaceful and mysterious at the same time" Wendy comments.
"Y..yeah I guess, it just looks sparkly to me" Wendy laughed.
"Sparkly?"
"Yeah see how the waves do that sparkle thing? They look sparkly, but it's sunset so I guess it's like a multi-color sparkly" Rex scratched his chin thoughtfully. Though a seagull sensed Rex's confusion and swooped down, stealing his cotton candy.
"Hey! Get back here!" Rex was about to make his jetpack build but Wendy's hand stopped him.
"It's ok Rex, you can share with me." She offered the cotton candy and he ripped off a small piece and ate it.
"It's not bad, but now we're gonna have some sugar crazed seagulls flying around." Rex comments bitterly, looking at the seagull which now ate his cotton candy on the top of a vendor booth. It noticed Rex and cawed at him before continuing to eat the sugary treat. Rex 'hmphed'.
"Then I guess we gotta get out of here then" Wendy shrugs.
"Are you kidding? I fight EVO's everyday, I could protect us from a few rats with wings, did I tell you about that time me and (Y/N) had to escape a group of angry pigeons in New York?" Rex asks, Wendy sighs.
"What is it Wendy? Is there something wrong?" Rex asks, cupping Wendy's cheek with his gloved hand. She looked and saw a bracelet.
"What's this?" She asks, removing Rex's hand to look at the bracelet.
"It's a..um, It's a friendship bracelet (Y/N) made for me when she was at basketball camp" he answers, Wendy took in a deep breath.
"You don't love me Rex"
"What're you talking about? I love you Wendy, you're my best friend" Rex hugged her but Wendy pushed him away.
"Rex..we both know that isn't true but I'll see you around Rex, yeah?" Wendy asks before disappearing into the crowd Rex sighed and looked out into the ocean, Wendy was right though. He thought that if he dated Wendy his feelings for you would go away, but you must've had no feelings for him since you got a boyfriend too. He lowered his head and opted to walk back to Providence.
-Meanwhile-
You wiped the tears from your eyes as you continued to walk home. Not even to minutes into the date and (G/N) was flirting with the waitress, but you being ignorant didn't notice towards the end where it was like he was on a date with the waitress and not you. It was obvious now that he would go for the most attractive girl in the room, and if a hotter one came along he would flirt with them and leave the other one in the dust. Even though your eyes were teary you tried not to cry, not wanting to ruin the makeup you put on just for this date. You accidentally bumped into someone and looked up ready to apologize when you saw Rex.
"O..oh Rex, hey, where's Wendy?" You ask.
"O...oh, she dumped me. What about (G/N)?"
"Flirted with the waitress"
"(Y/N)...I'm so sorry...I'm such an idiot..." Rex groans.
"You have nothing to apologize for...it was my own dumb fault..." you sniffle.
"(Y/N)...it's not your fault...I was being dumb...I thought you would be better off without me..."
"Better off?"
"Yeah...it's just with Van-Kleiss after me and all this crazy EVO stuff going on, I didn't want you to be put in danger. I don't know what I would do with myself if you got hurt."
"Rex...you like me..."
"Yeah, I do.." Rex's hand reached for yours, which was hanging by your side, he took it in his and rubbed circles with his thumb.
"Damn it Rex, you're the only one who can do this to me..." you sniffle, Rex used his other hand to brush your tears away.
"I'm so sorry (Y/N), Let's start over?"
"O...ok"
"Hey, I'm Rex, and you are?"
"(Y/N)"
"A pleasure to meet you (Y/N), your name is about as beautiful as you are" you giggle slightly.
"That was so stupid"
"Well it made you laugh didn't it?" Rex asks with a smile.
"Y...yeah, I guess it did..." you smile back up at him, he leaned in, his free hand going to stroke your cheek.Your eyes fluttered closed as you felt his lips meet yours in a gentle kiss.

"Aww man, I can't believe I lost"
"Again" you smirk, putting a towel around your neck after the last game you and Rex had.
"You don't have to rub it in..." Rex pouts.
"You're right, I don't have to, I like to" you ruffle his hair.
"But you know...you had some good hustle out there" you hum, fixing his goggles.
"Enough for a...I don't know....a kiss?" He asks with some mischievousness in his tone.
"...maybe..." you grin, pulling him forward by the shirt. You felt Rex grin in the kiss as he put a hand on your waist and another one on your cheek as you tangled your hands in his black hair.
"Welp, I'm outta here" Bobo comments, finding you two absolutely suffocating ever since you got together. But what you didn't know was all the women working at Providence took over the security room and were fangirling at how cute you guys were.
Yeah, at first I didn't know where to take this but after a bit I knew what I was gonna do. So the next one is...*discreetly looks at hand* a part two soulmate AU of our favorite EVO Boy. (I mean he seriously is the favorite, there's like eight oneshots of him in here, which is more than any other character in here, not that I'm complaining tho).
