My baby girl is one year old.
I have a one year old daughter.
All I keep thinking as I stare at her sleeping face is: where has time gone?
Honestly, where has it gone?
One minute she was the tiniest thing I've ever held in my arms, and then the next she's trailing behind me anywhere I go. My daughter -along with her Mum- is the light of my entire life. They are the light of my entire life. And to see that my precious girl is already a year old really is bittersweet. It's beautiful to witness the tiny person she's turned into, and it makes me so happy and proud to see her continue to grow and develop her personality. But at the same time it tugs at my heart strings because it's then I realise every waking moment with my daughter is worth everything in this world and no second I spend with my daughter should be wasted because before I know it, she won't be needing me anymore.
"I love you, my baby girl. Happiest of birthdays to you, angel." I murmured as I lay next to Scarlett in mine and Alex's bed with a stirring Scarlett in the middle. Being as gentle as I could possibly be, I ran my fingertips over my baby's flushed, chubby cheeks, watching as her gorgeous eyes fluttered lazily.
"Dahey," my sweet girl huffed cutely, turning so she was laying on her tummy, her cheek smushed to the covers adorably.
"Hi there, pretty girl. Did you sleep well?" I cooed, propping my chin on my hand as I stared down at my daughter lovingly. Scarlett pouted cutely as she somewhat crawled so she was now resting close to my chest, her tiny back toward me, little fingers grabbing onto my own.
"No."
"No?" I laughed, leaning down and attacking her cheeks with noisy kisses that had her giggling and squirming madly.
After a while of just laying in bed with my baby girl, I finally got out of bed and held my daughter against my bare chest as we walked out of the master bedroom and down the hall of our L.A home to the kitchen where Alexandra was preparing breakfast.
"Good morning, birthday girl! How are you this beautiful morning?" Alex cheered when she saw Scarlett and I. I moved closer to my fiancée so she could kiss our girl's rosy cheeks a couple of times; this being the first time she's seen our birthday girl since she woke up early in the morning to nurse her.
"M'goo!" Scarlett shrieked cheekily, nuzzling her nose against my collarbones when Alex began to tickle her sides.
I couldn't help the soft coo that went past my lips at the sight of both of my girls before me. Interrupting their cute moment together, I lifted Alex's chin and brought her closer to me to place a kiss to her pink, full lips.
"Can you believe we've got a one year old, Harry?" She breathed out when we pulled away from one another, her eyes focusing on our cooing girl who had spotted Bubba behind her Mum.
I shook my head gently as I laid a kiss to my baby girl's temple. I told myself I wasn't going to cry so early in the morning, but as I shifted my gaze down to my giggling girl, I couldn't help but let a few tears spill down my cheeks.
"She needs to stop growing so much. It's making my heart hurt." I sniffled, Alexandra's head looking up at me in surprise.
"Aw baby, don't cry! Oh sweetheart..." She murmured, smiling sadly as she ran her hands up and down my naked back. I moved one of my arms under Scarlett's bum so she was supported securely, my free hand coming up to wipe away the tears from my face.
"You don't have to worry about her growing up, my love. No matter what, she will always be your little girl. And she'll forever need her Daddy." Alex promised, beaming at Scarlett when our baby let out an excited squeal at the sound of Bubba barking for her attention.
"I know. I just... I can't believe she's grown so much. It's crazy to think that just a couple of months back, we were getting ready for her arrival and now we're getting ready for her first birthday." I shared softly as I lowered Scarlett to the ground so she could toodle after Bubba.
"It's been the best year of my life. I really am honoured to be her Mumma." Alex grinned, her eyes trailing after our giggling angel who had managed to plop down on the floor with her puppy lain in front of her contently.
Smiling lovingly toward my tiny girl, I wrapped my arms around Alexandra's waist, pulling her into my arms.
"It's been the best year of my life, too. We've both been so blessed to have her as our baby girl."
