3rd Person’s  Pov.

Hunter walked away from the house of his new interest, December, and headed home. He kept an eye out for anyone lurking, especially December’s Uncle. She thought the best of him, and Hunter wouldn’t tell her otherwise until he felt that she trusted him enough. In Hunter’s eye she was a little too innocent for his taste, a little too closed in, a little too—the opposite of him. But there was something about her that entranced him. Maybe it was the fact that she resisted him, or that underneath that weirdness she was feisty, he didn’t know.

Hunter caught a smile appearing on his face at just the thought of her. He shook his head, and walked into his house. The lights were all off so it was obvious that everyone was already asleep.  He tip-toed inside hoping that he wouldn’t make a peep that would wake up his light-sleeping household.

He didn’t even make it past the living room before his mom flicked on the light momentarily blinding him. He shielded his eyes from the glowing light, and squinted his eyes down at the small woman in the Lazy-boy chair.

“Hey Mom,” He replied smoothly, sitting down on the couch nearest his mother. She slid a content to see him home, smile, onto her middle aged face.

“Hunter, where have you been? I hope staying out of trouble. I can’t keep bailing you out of jail for doing something stupid. And you know it’s bad for you being in this neighborhood with this being that Officer’s neighborhood.”

“Mom chill out, I’ve been fine. I haven’t gotten into trouble in weeks. I’m not trying to go back,” He sighed running a hand through his muddy colored hair. His hazel eyes were glistening like the moon, and he seemed to dispel his mother’s worry.

“What have you been up to then, if not trouble? And where’s Tristan he’s usually always with you?” She sipped her late night tea from her cup before sitting it on the coffee table. Hunter placed his hand on top of his mom’s with a small smile.

“He’s at home. I actually went on a date today.” He smirked at his mom, thinking about the girl with the big eyes and brown hair that lived only a couple blocks away. Her brown hair was about mid-back and her big brown eyes, she was very short compared to him, and was a normal skinny. She was a wide eyed wonder, somewhat like a baby doe; naïve and something that you couldn’t help but look at with awe. She didn’t seem to fear Hunter, like everyone else did. In fact she had the nerves to stand up to him, deliberately tell him to leave, and even make eye-contact with him. Most people didn’t even have the guts to stand near him, afraid of what they think he may have done to get put in jail.

“A date? You know what I’m not even interested in hearing. I’m going to bed.” His mother had enough of her son’s ‘dates’ come by to last a lifetime. She knew her son wasn’t the settling down type, despite the look in his eyes when he said date this time around.

Hunter helped his mom to her feet, hugged her, and watched her retreat to her room. He assumed his brother wasn’t home. He trudged to his bedroom not even bothering to remove his clothes, only his shoes and leather jacket.

As soon as he was allowing sleep to lull him into unconsciousness, he received a brutal assault to his ears from his phone. He grumbled and opened the message.

Peter said meet him at the docks

The text was from Tristan, he didn’t even bother replying he knew he had to be there or else. Hunter didn’t want his mom to hear him leaving from the front door so he opted on pushing up his window. He was on the ground floor so he had no trouble slipping out without a sound.

He couldn’t take his bike that would risk him being seen or heard by neighbors who loved to call the cops on him whenever they thought he was up to no good.

Hunter dashed through the alleyways of the neighborhood, not stopping to take breaths or anything. He was use to his lungs burning because of their want to take another gulp of air. He was use to his calf muscles constricting underneath him pushing him to go faster and further in less time. Once he made it to a main street he called a taxi and it took him to the docks where he was supposed to meet Peter.

December tossed and turned in bed that night. She had a weird feeling, it wasn’t a bad one, but it wasn’t a good one. She had the urge to stay up, she didn’t know why but she felt as if she should. She tiptoed stealthily down the stairs and into the kitchen where she made herself a cup of hot cocoa to calm her nerves enough to go to sleep.

Though Hunter was incessant and annoying she had to admit that deep down she enjoyed his company. It was something different; something new for her. She still had yet to figure out what her Uncle’s deal was with Hunter. She couldn’t think of anything. She wasn’t stupid, she heard the rumors, she saw the way people cowered in fear of Hunter, but she just couldn’t bring herself to do that to him.

Maybe that was what kept him coming around, December had no clue. There was so much mystery surrounding Hunter and while she had his attention she was going to figure it out.

Hunter had finished his business with Peter and was now heading home. He was still angry that the man woke him up in the middle of the night just to tell him that he was back in town for a while. A text would have sufficed. As he walked past the houses that looked very similar in the dark, he couldn’t help but wonder if December was awake; although he was sure she was asleep. It just seemed so Cember to be sleep by this hour, he thought. Checking the time on his phone he saw that it was three in the morning.

Fuck Peter. He thought to himself grumbling about how tired he was going to be in the morning. He decided to make a small detour to December’s house to bother her at 3 in the morning since he was up. He smirked to himself; she was going to be pissed.

Hunter made his way toward the house only to roll his eyes at the upcoming car. He was use to seeing it and it reminded him of just a couple of months ago. He sighed and stopped in front of the sidewalk of December’s house and turned towards the car.

“Hand’s up,” the familiar officer called out. Hunter lifted his hands slowly and faced the voice.

“Oh it’s just Hunter, Rob.” Officer Smith said to his partner, in the driver’s seat. Hunter suppressed the urge to roll his eyes once more at December’s Uncle, who seemed to have a personal vendetta against him.

“What are doing out so late, Jacobs?” What’s with the use of my last name? Hunter thought.

“Just walking home” Hunter’s reply was simple and plain, which apparently wasn’t enough for the persistent cop.

“Hey how old are you now Hunter?” Then Officer Smith turned to his partner, “Isn’t he about your niece, December’s age?”

“Your point,” December’s Uncle grumbled, glaring daggers at his partner. He looked as if he wanted to pummel him for even mentioning his niece’s name. Hunter smiled inwardly, he already knew his niece.

“You didn’t tell me you had a niece? I’m offended, after how long we’ve known each other.” Hunter feigned shock.

“You don’t need to know about her, or even know her.” He practically growled at him.

Little did anyone near the police car know that December was up and in her room watching the scene take place as it unfolded. She was curious as to why her Uncle didn’t like Hunter, but it didn’t look like she was going to get that information today. She was relieved to see that Hunter was acting like he never knew her and that made her smile.

Back at the police car Hunter was trying to hold back his smile for the angered police officer.

“I mean December isn’t a common name. I’m sure I could find her somewhere.” He was toying with him, cruel he knows, but it was fun for him.

“I mean it Jacobs, one look in her direction and your back in jail. Your little friend won’t be able to help you this time.” December’s Uncle sneered and it caused the amused smile to wipe off his face.

He wasn’t afraid of going back to jail or anything, but he didn’t like the threat that was behind his words. As Hunter’s expression changed to deadly, Officer Smith took his chance to step in and cool down the situation.

“December’s too much of a good girl Rob, there’s nothing to worry about. She wouldn’t even look at a boy like him. Besides Hunter’s been out of trouble for a while now, give the kid a break. Goodbye Hunter.” Officer Smith smiled at the boy, he’s had a tough time, and he personally didn’t think he was that bad of a kid, other than the reason he was put into jail. That’s what gave the air a mysterious vibe about him.

Hunter decided to let it go this time and started making his way down the sidewalk. He glanced up at the house they held December and sighed. He wouldn’t be seeing her for the second time tonight.

December‘s thoughts were racing. What could Hunter have done to make her Uncle hate him so much? Was he about to come see her again? Oh no, not thoughts like that again, ew push those away. She thought when her mind started to surface about Hunter seeing her.

Why was Mr. Smith so nice and playful, but not her Uncle? What did Hunter have to hide? Why was he so cute? She was angry at herself for letting the last thought come to mind but she pushed it away. It was just attraction to his outer appearance, because his personality sucked and wasn’t her type.
