August

Why the fuck won't she pick up my phone calls? I had called Samara twenty times and every single time it would continue to ring until I got her voicemail.

'Hey, this is Samara. Unfortunately, I'm not at the phone at the moment but leave a message and I'll get back to you.'

Clearly, that was a lie. I had been blowing up her cell phone since last week when she broke up with me at the wedding and not one callback. Not even a text. Taking a deep breath, I covered my face with my hands as I tried to figure out when everything went wrong. I had one of the most beautiful women in my grasp and I somehow managed to lose her. This would be the time I would've gotten some brotherly advice from Trey but he was still on his honeymoon for a few more days and I wasn't going to ruin his vacation because Mara and I were having problems. I would figure this out without him. Then Samara would have to be on bed rest because once I am back in that pussy, I am going to remind her who the fuck I really am. But first I needed her to talk to me. A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts and I called them in.

"August, I need your approval on these designs," Rachelle, Nikki's sister, said coming in before handing me the portfolio.

"Alright," I mumbled before taking it and signing it, not bothering to give it a look over. "Here."

"You didn't even look it over," Rachelle stated, looking amused.

"I don't need to, I trust your work."

"Alright, August, what's up?"

"What do you mean?"

"For the last week you've been moping around here and it's starting to affect your work."

"No, it isn't."

"August you just signed a take out menu," she said and when I looked down, I had actually signed a takeout menu. Had it really gotten that bad where it was affecting my business?

"I don't know what to do Rachelle."

"You need to take a few days off."

"I just got off from a vacation, I can't do that."

"August, you run the company. If you decide to never come back, no one can tell you anything. So go home and when you come back I expect to see my boss back to his usual self. Got it?" She threatened and I chuckled.

"Yeah, I got it. Thank you, Rachelle."

"Don't mention it," she said waving it off before taking back the takeout menu and heading on her way.

I needed to get myself together. Packing up my stuff and a few files that I could do from home to keep me from dying of boredom, I left the office and headed straight home. The drive home felt longer than usual and the radio wasn't helping since all the songs were either about love or heartbreak. Pulling into the driveway, I shut the engine off before heading inside and dropping my stuff off at the door. Home sweet home. Plopping down on the couch, I grabbed the remote and turned on the TV hoping to get my mind of Samara.

"And after this quick commercial, we will have a special guest, Ms. Samara Gray," the host announced and I fought the urge to groan. Of course. Flipping through the rest of the channels, nothing else seemed interesting and sighing in frustration, I shut the TV off. Maybe I just needed to shower.

Going upstairs, I headed straight for the bathroom before stripping out of my clothes and getting into the shower. The water cascaded down my body as I allowed my mind to drift back to when things were simpler.

"Girl you really doubt a nigga, don't you? I said it once and I'll say it again 'mara, you can't make Aug lose control."

"Alright then." I watched as she took a step back and sent me a smirk. "What about now?" I watched as dangerously slowly she untied her robe while keeping her eyes on me before the robe dropped to her feet. She fuckin' did it. My mouth went dry and I could feel my erection pulsing against my sweats as she bit her lip awaiting my next move while moving closer to me. My eyes soaked in the image of her standing in nothing but lingerie as it swept over her breasts down her body to the lower half that was just beggin to be revealed. And them mutha'fuckin' legs.

"August," she teased, "my eyes are up here."

"Shit I know," I mumbled as I took a step closer to her until our bodies were pressed up against each other and I noticed how suddenly she ain't look so confident.

"Aug--"

"Let me ask you a question real quick? Where's ya nigga right now?"

"Inside getting ready to go out with his boys," she said with a roll of her eyes and I chuckled having my thoughts confirmed. She was fucking wit a brainless nigga. But not for long.

"You feel this shit?" I placed her hand on top of my erection and her mouth dropped open in shock but never let go.

"Uh huh?"

"This a real nigga dick cause obviously you ain't neva' felt one. That nigga you got ain't got one fuckin' clue if he goin' out wit his boys while you look like this. Shit if you was my girl ya ass wouldn't be able to walk much less answa' a door. And you can tell that nigga of yours not to get to comfortable cause soon enough Aug gon give you that real nigga dick, and you gon' leave his ass fa'real and I'll put that shit on everything" and with that, I walked away letting what I said to settle in.

Yea. The good old days.

The cold water hittin' my body brought me out of my daydream and I quickly shut off the water before hopping out the shower, grabbing my towel and wrapping it around my waist before heading to the bedroom. I changed into a black tee and some basketball shorts before I heard the front door open and the sound of Nedra's voice.

"Daddy are you home?" She called from downstairs.

"Yeah baybeh, I'm coming down right na'."

"Okay," she replied happily. Out of habit, I looked down at my cell phone and like expected, not one missed call. Shaking it out of my mind, I headed downstairs and took a seat beside Nedra on the couch.

"What's going on baybeh?"

"Nothing. Grandma took me out for some ice cream," Nedra explained, holding up her vanilla cone.

"Oh really? Where is grandma?"

"In the kitchen," she said before going back to her ice cream cone.

"You gon give me some?" I asked and she nodded before passing over the ice cream.

"So daddy, when does Samara come over? I miss her," Nedra said pouting.

"About that. Nedra, Mara ain't gon be coming ova' here anymore."

"Why?"

"Well, she and I ain't really on speaking terms."

"What does that have to do with me?" She asked and I gave myself a minute to find the best way to answer her.

"Nedra baybeh, Samara just needs a lil space from us right na'."

"But that's not fair!" Nedra yelled, tears starting to fall down her face. Fuck...

"Nedra--"

"Samara was the only mommy I ever had and you took her from me! I hate you!" Nedra ran up to her room before slamming the room door as I sat trying to figure out how shit got so complicated.

"You know August, I told your Dad you were the best with the ladies but clearly I was wrong," my mom said as she leaned up against the door frame and I shook my head.

"I thought I was to ma," I replied before she came and took a seat beside me on the couch.

"So why don't you tell me what's going on?" I gave her a brief overview of everything that had happened from when Samara and I had come up with this agreement to Nikki and Trey's wedding making sure to skip over the 'things' we did. Not everything you need to tell your mama.

"--And she has been ignoring me ever since."

"August, if I was her I would be ignoring you too."

"Why?"

"August, the girl is in love with you."

"No, she isn't," I said mostly to myself. She couldn't be in love with me. Could she?

"Yes, she is. And baby boy, you're in love with her too."

"Hell no. I ain't in love with nobody," I told her, shaking my head.

"August, I am not going to try and prove to you that you're in love but what I will do is leave you with something to think about. Can you imagine living your life without her in it? If you can then maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but if you can't then stop making your reality." She gave me a kiss on my forehead before packing up her stuff. "Now I'm heading home to go make dinner for your father before he goes and tries to do it himself and blow up my kitchen," she said with a laugh and I couldn't resist to join in.

"Alright, send Dad my love."

"I will. And you think about what I said okay?"

"Yes, ma'am." She let herself out, leaving me alone and to my thoughts. Could I imagine a life without Samara? Did I love her? Fuck this, I need a distraction. The doorbell rung out and I quickly jogged to the door figuring it was my mom but when I opened it I got a hell of a surprise.

"Hailey?" I asked slightly confused. If it wasn't for seeing the slight differences between her face and Samara's I could've sworn I was looking at Samara.

"I heard about what happened with Samara and I'm here if you want to talk."

"We have nothing to discuss Hailey."

"Are you sure about that?" She asked opening up her jacket to reveal absolutely nothing. She was completely naked.

"You know what, I think we do have something to discuss."
