Applejack stared down at the tiled floor, her elbows on her knees, resting her chin on her hands. She had no idea how long she had been sitting there. All she knew was that she went in with Rainbow Dash. The teenage hybrid girl had been whisked away. Applejack had barely enough time to pull one of the medics aside and explain Rainbow's.......... abnormality. The medics took a look at Rainbow they believed Applejack. They said they'd make sure to take care of her and call her doctor.
Applejack gave them Rainbow's medical information and then she was told to sit in the emergency waiting room.
Applejack had called her dad and her friends to tell them about what had happened. The girls had freaked out, asking if Rainbow was okay to which Applejack said she had no idea.
So there she was, sitting in the emergency room waiting room, waiting for her friends to come or for news on Rainbow's condition.
"Applejack."
Applejack looked up quickly. She saw her father and friends quickly walking towards her. She was glad they were there.
"Guys." She said, not really knowing what to say.
The girls hurried up to her. Sunset sat down beside Applejack. Jackson knelt down and hugged her daughter.
"Are you alright??." He asked.
Applejack sighed, leaning her head back.
"Ah don't know. Ah'm not hurt if that's what you mean."
Jackson nodded. "That is what I mean. Have you heard anything about Rainbow Dash??."
Applejack shook her head. "Not a thing."
"I hope she's okay." Fluttershy said. "I can't imagine what she went through in that alley with that man."
"What did you see when you saw her??." Twilight questioned.
Applejack sighed. She thought back to barely just an hour ago.
"Ah just saw Rainbow bein' put on to a stretcher. She was unconscious and all bruised n' bloody. She looked really bad, guys."
"And the man that kidnapped her??." Sunset said. "What about him??."
"Was he caught??." Twilight asked.
Applejack shook her head, anger in her eyes.
"Nope. That bastard is still out there. He had left Rainbow Dash ta die n' disappeared. People said they saw him walk out of the mall with Rainbow."
Applejack punched her leg.
"Ah can't believe ah let her slip away without me noticin' until it was too late. She got hurt n' must've been so scared and ah wasn't there ta help her."
"Applejack." Jackson said. "You can't blame yourself for this. You didn't see the man with Rainbow because you were with fans. You were doing what you always do. Give attention to fans in public. Rainbow's not gonna blame you. She won't. No one could've known this would happen. We don't even know why she went with the man in the first place. She may have been forced or at gun point or whatever."
The man took his daughter's hands. She looked into his eyes.
"Don't blame yourself, okay??."
Applejack sighed, bowing her head.
"Then why do ah still feel so guilty??." She sulked.
She put her face in her hands.
"Of all people, why Rainbow??."
Applejack looked up at her friends.
"She did nothin' ta deserve this. She did nothin ta anyone. She's kind n' helpful n' innocent n' just curious and naive. Hyper n' energetic n' annoyin' as hell at times, she means well. She-."
Applejack kicked at the floor.
"God, she must've been so scared. Ah can only imagine the pain that man caused her."
"Applejack." Her dad spoke. "We don't know why a lot of unfair things happen in live. Good people pay the price for bad people's deeds n' it ain't fair at all. But it's how the world is. There'll always be evil and good."
Then he smiled. "But the important thing right now is for us to be there for Rainbow Dash and make sure she recovers n' gets better."
He lightly patted her knee.
"She'll need you, especially." He said to Applejack.
Applejack knew he was right. Rainbow would need her through this. No doubt she would probably be traumatized by what happened when she woke up.
Applejack sucked in a deep breath, sitting up straight. She exhaled, relaxing her body.
"You're right."
"Wait." Twilight suddenly said.
She took off a backpack that had on and out in the floor. She knelt down and unzipped the bag. Twilight took Rainbow stuffed bear. She held it out to Applejack.
"At least give her your birthday present." She said. "Even if this is probably the worst birthday she's ever had, I think she'd like to have it with her to help her feel safer and secure."
Applejack nodded. She looked down at the repaired teddy bear.
"Rainbow Dash??."
The group looked over at the doorway to see a nurse standing there, looking around. Applejack sprung up.
"You go." Jackson told her. "Let us know how she is."
Applejack nodded and quickly walked up to the nurse. The woman smiled.
"Follow me."
The nurse led her down a couple of hallways till they got to the emergency hall rooms. The nurse led her to one of the sliding glass doors and opened it.
"She's awake." The nurse whispered. "But she's scared. So no sudden movements or loud noises."
Applejack had a feeling that would be the case. Applejack followed the nurse inside.
When Applejack saw Rainbow Dash, she stopped. Rainbow as in a hospital gown, sitting with her knees to her chest, the blanket up over her knees. She was watching the tv. She immediately saw Applejack. She whimpered and reached out for Applejack.
Applejack all but ran over to her. She plopped down on the hospital bed and wrapped her arms around Rainbow. Rainbow hugged back tightly.
Applejack was so relieved to have Rainbow in her arms again. She kissed Rainbow's cheek, rubbing her back.
After a moment, she pulled away. She looked at Rainbow Dash. She saw bruises all over her face and arms.
"How do you feel??." She asked.
Rainbow shrugged, looking away. She winced in pain.
"Rainbow." The nurse said, walking up to the couple. "Lay back, baby. You need to relax and rest. You took quite a beating."
Applejack looked back at the hybrid girl.
Rainbow did as told and laid back on the bed. Applejack held her left hand in hers.
"Rainbow??." Applejack said, suspiciously. "Say somethin. Can you tell me what happened??."
Rainbow stayed silent. She shook her head and looked away. This greatly concerned Applejack.
"What do you mean no??."
Rainbow shook her head slowly. Applejack understood. Rainbow wasn't speaking because of what the man did. Did he threaten her if she told anyone??
Applejack squeezed her hand gently.
"Rainbow. Baby, please talk. Did he tell you not to tell anyone what happened??."
Rainbow didn't respond. She shrugged. This wasn't good.
Applejack looked at the nurse.
"She won't talk."
"I'll go get the doctor." The nurse said before she walked out.
Applejack looked at Rainbow. The girl's ears were raised with shy curiosity. She was looking at something. Applejack followed her eyes down to the teddy bear. Applejack smiled.
"See who ah brought cha?." She asked, holding out the teddy bear.
Rainbow took it carefully. She examined it, eyes wide with shock. She must've noticed the repairs in the ripped up and old toy. It looked brand new.
"Ah got him fixed up for you. Happy birthday."
Rainbow looked up at her. She smiled widely. She entwined their fingers. Applejack took it as a good sign. Then the smile disappeared as quickly as it had come. Rainbow quickly released Applejack's hand and hugged the teddy bear close to her chest, laying back on the bed.
Applejack frowned, noticing the change in her behavior. "Baby. Please talk to me. Please." She begged, wanting to hear her voice.
Rainbow didn't even look at her. Applejack slowly reached out a hand to touch her. Rainbow suddenly flinched and cowered in fear. That was a sudden change in attitude. Applejack couldn't understand why Rainbow Dash was like this. Just a moment ago she had held Applejack's hand.
She heard the door slide open behind her. Rainbow tensed up, looking at the door. Applejack could the voice of what she assumed was the doctor walking in, but she couldn't tear her eyes away from Rainbow Dash. Rainbow had a look of fear and distrust on her face, closing her teddy bear close to her. Applejack watched her, one question on her mind.
What happened to her in that alley??
