Spencer POV

Opening the safe I pulled out all of the papers and they were exactly how Melissa and I had left them. The only thing missing was the paper that Jason needed to sign to inherit this place.

"What is it that we're looking for?" Toby asked me picking up a stack of papers then blowing the dust off. "Anything that could be useful whether it's about my father or Wilden."

I looked through every single paper in my stack and there was nothing that would be helpful. "Have you found anything?" I asked him.

He shook his head. "Everything in my pile either belongs to Jason or Melissa," he paused. "Charles said that he inherited this place but the only person who could do that is Jason."

"I figured it out a few minutes ago." I admitted. This time it felt different from finding out about Melissa. With Melissa I felt like I needed time to think some things through but with Jason my mind was already straight.

There would be no tears but I did deserve an explanation from him as well. "We should probably go, Caleb texted me saying that he had just broke down the firewall so he should be done soon and there's nothing useful in here."

The sound of the creaking stairs caught Toby and I off guard. We got up from our knelled position and looked around before deciding to hide behind stacked boxes.

"Everything is under control I can handle it." a raspy voice entered. I looked up at Toby and he looked down at me. "It's Wilden." he whispered.

I turned looked forward once again and watched as Wilden looked down at the safe that was still wide open, with papers scattered in front of it.

"I'm going to have to call you back my phone is dying." he lied not waiting for the other response as he hung up the phone, stuffing it into his back pocket.

He knelled down and I was no longer able to see him because of the boxes that blocked the way but I knew he was close by the sound of his foot steps.

I backed further into Toby's chest practically holding my breath. "Where is that envelope." he murmured actually closer than I had thought.

Toby slowly slid down the wall, pulling me along with him so we were knelling behind the boxes as well. "So an envelope is what we should have been looking for." Toby admitted quietly to himself, pulling me closer against his chest.

I looked up at Toby,"How are we going to get out of here?" I whispered. "We don't have time to look for an envelope."

He gave me a quick glance before looking around. "The stairs is the only way out and it doesn't seem like he's leaving anytime sooner."

"What do we do?"

"Nothing," he replied nonchalantly, grabbing my hand and pulling me down along with him so we were knelling behind the boxes. "We're just going to have to wait."

I wanted to groan in frustration but held it in not wanting to attract Wildens attention in any way. My eye lids began to fill heavy but I kept them open making sure that I stayed awake.

Foot steps kept sounding in one place and then another indicating that Wilden was pacing back and fourth thinking.

I felt my phone vibrate again and pulled it out, my first thing being to turn down the brightness before opening the message I had received.

Caleb just broke down the firewall so he should be done soon. - Emily

I gave my phone to Toby and he sighed handing my phone back to me and standing up again. "I'm going out." he murmured but I grabbed his wrist before he could take one step.

Standing up as well I pulled him back so that we were once again hidden by the boxes. "That's not going to do us any good," I admitted. "Just. . . stay here."

"It's almost three in the morning, I can't keep running into work late or taking days off." he complained once I had let go of him.

"Then I'll go out."

His eyes darkened once I said this. "If I let you go out there and something were to happen then what?" he asked rhetorically.

I rolled my eyes crossing my arms over my chest. "What about you?" I asked. "If you go out there and something were to happen what am I suppose to do?"

"I can take care of myself Spencer just let me do this and stay here." he demanded. Knowing by the look in his eyes that he would go either way I held back a continuation of this argument.

Sighing, he lifted a hand and brushed his thumb over my cheek softly kissing my forehead. "Don't do that," I murmured placing my hands on his chest, ignoring his confusion. "You act like this is our last good bye- you and Wilden had already gotten into it I know you'll be fine but I still worry."

He grabbed my hands, removing them from his chest. Turning his head towards the sound of the creaking stairs. "He's leaving." Toby informed me.

I let out a breathe of relief unable to hold back my yawn. "Can we just go now?" I asked him and he nodded.

We made our way up the stairs and Toby reached to close the door but it slammed closed before he had a chance to touch it, revealing Wilden.

"Did you honestly think that things would end that easily?" he asked moving in closer. Toby pushed me back and I fell into a pair of arms causing my breathing to pick up.

Looking up I was met with a pair of brown eyes that filled with worry. Standing up straight I realized that I had blocked out the situation happening with Toby and Wilden.

"What's going on?" Charles yelled at the two who continued to ignore him. Stepping forward he tore the two away from each other but that didn't stop the yelling that was giving me a headache.

"Toby get my sis-" he paused realizing what he was going to say. "Get Spencer out of here."

Toby angrily came over to me but gently guided me towards the entrance of the house. We went outside and I felt better with the cool air hitting me square on.

After a moment of silence Toby finally spoke. "Please don't cry." he told me. I was confused at first but only then did I realize that I was shaking, tears already streaming like a river.

I wanted to tell him that I was okay but that would have been me lying to him and I was unable to find my voice. I wiped my tears away and sat down on the steps.

Toby received a text and he checked it, casting me a worried look. "I need to bring the car around-"

"I'll be fine."

My response came quick and neither one of us believed it but he slowly walked away taking glances back and fourth between me and the way to the car.

The house door opened and I felt a presence next to me. "I should have told you," the familiar voice said. "I wasn't sure how-"

Surprising us both I laid my head down onto his shoulder. My reaction towards him was different from my reaction towards Melissa but that was hardly what mattered right now.

"Should I call you Charles or Jason?" I asked once his arm hesitantly wrapped around me, pulling me closer.

"Jason," he paused. "Charles is another story for another day- a story you can't handle right now."

I sniffled,"When I leave. . . will I see you again?" I asked. I could see the car head lights appear in the lower half of the driveway. "Of course you will but not any time soon," he replied kissing the top of my head. "I love you Spence."

"I love you Spence." Jason chuckled before kissing my forehead. I rolled over in my bed,"Why do you call me Spence?" I murmured.

He smiled brightly. "Because whenever you hear it you know its me, I'm the only one that would ever call you that, your special."

"Is that why you call Melissa Mel?" I asked. "Is she special too?" he nodded his head seriously. I felt that it was weird seeing that Jason was serious because this wasn't something that I've seen before coming from him.

Jason was usually the one that was full of energy, doing whatever he could to make sure that I was happy.

There was always a playful gleam in his eyes that made my eyes gleam to and when he smiled it was as if it was contagious because it filled the whole room whether we were in a good or bad situation.

Something told me that I would have to get use to this new expression and I didn't like it one bit.

"Your special and Melissa is special dont you ever forget that now go to sleep I dont have much time."

I nodded letting my eyes close. "Can you say it again?" I asked him tiredly. He pecked my forehead once again. "I love you Spence." with that said I fell to sleep.

Jason rose from the stair case reaching out with his hand for me to grab. I grabbed it, pulling myself up off of the ground. "I love you too Jason." I responded before his hand left mine and he entered the house once again just before Toby had pulled up all the way.

I stood there watching Jason as he sent me one last smile moving out of the way for the others to exit the house.

Once the door closed there was a brush of wind as I held myself self consciously walking to the car taking the passenger seat.

I no longer felt tired, I simply watched the stars as we drove out onto the empty road.
