Arabella's POV:
The next few days were a blur to me. We did okay in the competition, if okay means 3rd place. We didn't advance to the next level, but it's alright. I wouldn't be on the team after that anyway. Oh wait, yes I would. I'm moving back on January 5th.
Chandler got sick before New Years, and I didn't care what Sam was doing anyway. I'd rather not spend my New Years with Sam. Just another reminder of what we used to have, not that i miss it or anything. I spend it alone. On our indoor balcony.
Amy walks out of the hotel room. "Aren't you going to come inside? It's almost midnight."
I'm obviously not in the mood, but honestly I don't have a reason to be like this. I respond with, "Shouldn't you be out drinking or something?" Amy furrows her eyebrows, thinking.
"Is everything okay?" she asks. I just say, "Chandler got sick, and I dunno, it's just a feeling. Like, do you ever just get sad for no reason? It's that. I just feel sad. Maybe I've just been listening to too much Twenty One Pilots or something, but... you know what? It's nothing, I'm probably just starting my period or something." Amy nods and walks back in.
About ten minutes later, Noah runs outside to me. "Arabella!! Arabella!! It's 11:59! Aren't you going to come inside?"
I shake my head. "Nah, go in without me. I'd rather just chill out here."
Noah runs back inside. I hear all the kids excitedly count down from 10. I block out their voices, and get focused onto the lobby of the hotel. It is less than ten seconds from a new year, but it doesn't affect the people down below me. They carry on with their lives like it's any other day. I always loved new years. To me, it felt like a completely new start. I know all that basic "New year, new me" shit, and I hate when people say it, but for some reason, I always felt like it starts a new slate.
To put all the shit that has happened this past year behind me.
3, 2, 1... Next thing I know it's midnight. 2015.
This next year, it's gonna be different. Everything that happened last year, is now in the past. To stay there.
I get a text from Chandler. "Happy New Years, baby! I'm sorry I couldn't make it, but there's always next year!''
I hate when people say "Happy New Years" with an s. Like no, its "Happy New Year."
And the worst part of it all is I didn't get a New Year's kiss.
