Applejack looked around the candle lit room. The room was filled with masked people, dancing, talking, eating or having a drink. Princess Applejack of Canterlot didn't really want to be there. She'd rather be upstairs in her room. She sighed.
She looked at her friends princess Twilight and duchess Rarity.
"Do ah have ta be here??".
"Yes, you do", Twilight said.
"It's good to meet new people. This is the perfect time to do so".
Applejack sighed, clasping her hands together. She didn't mind meeting people. She just didn't like parties.
It just wasn't her thing. Though everything was very beautiful and relaxing, it was also loud. There were couples everywhere and that bugged her.
She had yet to meet someone in her interest. That was part of the reason her father had her attend this masquerade ball. She was to be wedded to the princess of Cloudsdale, though they haven't met yet.
Applejack thought it was kinda cool. She could meet someone and get to know them and can't judge them by their looks.
"Hey Applejack", Rarity said, nudging her arm.
Applejack looked at her. The young duchess pointed over to a group of girls. Applejack raised an eyebrow but watched silently.
She noticed the girls were laughing. Just like half the people here. But then she noticed that one of the ladies wasn't laughing. She haf rainbow colored hair. Applejack's eyes flickered from the girl to the rest of the girls.
Then it clicked. Those girls were laughing at the other girl. No wonder she isn't laughing. She was being laughed at. The rest of the girls walked away, leaving the rainbow haired girl alone. The girl crossed her arms loosely, her shoulders slumped, her head bowed.
By her body language, Applejack could tell she was upset. She decided to go talk to her.
"Ah'm gunna go to her", she said.
"Have fun", Rarity sing songed.
Applejack walked across the room. She said hello to other dukes, and duchesses, princesses and kings and queens that had attended the ball she knew. Just a quick hello and smile and she was off.
The masked girl she saw was standing in the corner alone. She had long rainbow colored hair, and light blue skin. She wore a rainbow and gold ball gown.
Noone should have to be alone at a ball. Expecially at the one she was hosting.
Walking over to her, Applejack cleared her throat. The girl turned around. Applejack felt herself go dumb. Magenta colored eyes looked at her through a white glittery mask.
"Oh uh".
Applejack felt as if her tongue was a block of ice. She stood there in shock.
Come on brain work.
"Ah uh........".
The other girl stared at her for a few seconds.
"Are you okay??".
Applejack nodded dumbly. She shook her head, trying to get her brain to function. She looked at the other girl.
"Hi. Ah'm Applejack".
The other said nothing. Suddenly her eyes widened.
"Oh. You mean like Applejack the princess that lives here??. In this kingdom??".
Applejack smiled and nodded. "Yes. That's me".
The girl bowed. "It's a honor to meet you, your highness".
Applejack bowed back. "The pleasure is all mine".
The girls smiled at eachother. Applejack noticed the girl's smile falter. She was looking over Applejack's shoulder. The blonde followed her stare.
There stood the girls that were laughing at her earlier. She turned back at the girl.
"Were they laughin at cha a few minutes ago?", Applejack asked.
The masked stranger nodded, frowning. Applejack felt like throwing those girls out of the ball and even the castle. But she decided that she should just let them be. They made a bad mistake by being rude to this girl.
"Well that wasn't very nice. They don't deserve you".
The girl smiled. "Thanks your highness", she said.
Applejack smiled.
"Please, call me Applejack".
The girl nodded. Applejack looked around the room. She looked back at the girl.
"Hey uh, you wanna dance??".
The girl smiled. "I would like that".
Applejack held out her arm, which the other girl took. They walked across the room and to the ballroom floor. There was a waltz going on. Applejack led the girl to the center of the room. The two got into position and began dancing.
Immediately everything else seemed to dissappear. It was only them. They glided across the floor, smiling. Applejack felt like this girl fit just perfectly in her arms. Looking into her eyes, the princess felt herself get lost in them.
By the end of the waltz everyone else had stopped and watched the pair. Applejack smiled.
"Come with me to the balcony".
The two girls made their way out of the room and onto the large empty balcony. It was a bit chilly, being nighttime and all.
The two sat on the balcony and talked, getting to know eachother. They talk for hours on end. About themselves and things they liked to do. They had a bit in common. They both liked to read and have fun, go on adventures, hated parties.
"So, having a good time??", Applejack asked.
The girl smiled and nodded. "Absolutely".
"Ah think mah dad did a good job fir once. He was the one that wanted this ball".
The rainbow haired girl sighed, looking out at the garden below.
"I wonder what my dad would have been like", she said to herself.
"What are you talking about??".
The masked girl looked at Applejack. She had heard her.
"Oh sorry. I was just thinking outloud", she said.
Applejack frowned. "What do you mean by that??. What happened to yir father??".
The girl sighed. "My parents died when I was young. So, ever since then, I've never had anyone around. A few false friends and greedy wedded husbands. But noone to really care about me".
Applejack felt bad. This girl has a tough life.
"Oh. Ah'm sorry".
The girl shrugged. "It was a long time ago. Now, I have to marry. My kingdom is now bankrupt and this is the only way to take care of my people".
Applejack nodded.
"Well. Ah hope that whoever you marry will love you an take good care of yir kingdom and you as well".
The girl looked away.
"I guess. Honestly, I bet they'll just throw me in the dungeon forever and take over my kingdom or have me assassinated after the wedding. It's happen before".
Applejack frowned. "What??. How could they do that??".
The girl shrugged. She sighed. "I guess I'm just not meant to be loved".
"Okay stop there", Applejack said standing up.
"You definitely deserve love. You're amazing. Ah know Ah've only met cha a few hours ago, but ah know how fun and beautiful and amazin' ya are".
Applejack reached out and took her hands.
"Listen, ah don't know what you've been told before in the past, but ah know that right now, you're the most beautiful person ah have ever met. That's the truth and ah don't want cha ta think any less of yirself. Okay??".
Applejack brought a hand up to the girl's cheek. They looked into eachother's eyes, their bodies getting closer. Applejack leaned in and kissed her lips. She felt the other kiss back. She wrapped her arm around the shorter girl's waist.
Pulling away the two looked at eachother, eyes wide. They pulled away, both blushing immensely.
Suddenly Applejack realized something. Wait...... kingdom??. Marriage??. Dead parents??.
"Wait....... who do you have to marry??".
The girl was about to say something someone interrupted.
"Your highness".
The girls turned and saw a man standing there. He walked up to the girls. He bowed.
"Your highness. Would you like to meet the princess of Everfree??".
Applejack was in shock. This girl was a princess. How stupid was she. Applejack had been talking to the girl she was to marry this whole time and she just now realized it.
The rainbow haired princess turned to the man.
"Tell her I'm occupied. Thank you but another time perhaps".
The man bowed and left back to the ball. Applejack looked at her either wide eyes.
"You're a princess".
The girl nodded.
"Yeah. My name is-".
The girl stopped and face palmed.
"Stupid. I am such an idiot. I never told you my name. Some queen I'm gunna be. Can't do anything right".
Applejack shook her head. "No, you're not stupid. Don't say that. Ah'm the idiot fir not realizin you were royalty. Plus, ah should've realized. So, who are you??".
"My name is princess Rainbow Dash of Cloudsdale".
Applejack's mouth fell open.
"Cloudsdale??".
The princess nodded.
"Oh my. We're going ta be married".
Applejack bowed.
"Ah'm so sorry your highness. Ah didn't realize......... Ah was talking to mah bride ta be this whole time and ah didn't even know it".
Applejack took her hand.
"And ah can promise you that when we are married, ah will love you and take care of not only our people, but you as well".
Princess Rainbow Dash smiled.
"Thank you. I'm sure you'll be a fine ruler. I'm so sorry for all of this confusing mess I've created".
Applejack shook her head.
"If I had known it was you, I would've-".
Applejack grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her into a kiss. Rainbow's eyes widened. Applejack pulled away. She smiled.
"Stop that".
Princess Rainbow blushed. She looked away.
"Sorry. I-I just".
Applejack shook her head. "Ya don't have ta explain anythin", she said smiling.
Rainbow smiled back. "Okay".
Applejack chuckled. "Who woulda thought that I'd meet mah bride ta be fir the first time like this".
Rainbow laughed. "I know right. But this was a great first meeting if I do say so myself".
"Agreed".
Princess Rainbow Dash turned her head. She looked up at the sky.
"Hey uh".
She looked back at Applejack.
"Don't cha think we should...... ya know.......take off our masks??".
She hadn't thought about that. They didn't know what they looked like.
"Oh right".
She giggled. The girls faced eachother. At the same time they untied their masks.
"On three", Applejack said.
Rainbow nodded. "1".
"2".
"3".
The girls lowered their masks. Applejack felt her breathing stop. Princess Rainbow was beautiful. The other princess smiled at her.
"Wow. You're........ beautiful", Rainbow said smiling. Woah.
Applejack stared at her in awe.
"You're the most beautiful girl Ah've ever seen", she whispered.
The princess blushed at the compliment. She looked at the ground, smiling.
"Thank you. You're not so bad yourself".
Applejack smiled. Suddenly she remembered something. She looked at her left hand. There was a ring on her finger she had gotten for said princess to give to her when they met. She took it off and looked up at Rainbow Dash. The princess noticed the ring, her eyes widening.
Applejack took her hand.
"This is fir you, your highness. As an engagement gift to you".
She slipped the ring on. Princess Rainbow smiled at her.
"Thank you. I do have something for you but not with me at the moment. I didn't think you'd be here".
Applejack chuckled. "That's quite alright".
"Your highness??".
The girls turned around. They saw the same man as before standing there.
"We should be heading back. Long journey home".
Rainbow nodded. "Oh course. Wait for me at the carriage please. I'll only be a minute more".
The man nodded and left. Rainbow turned to Applejack.
"Well. Care to walk me down??".
Applejack smiled. "Ah'd love to".
The girls walked back into the castle and made their way downstairs and out to the front where the carriages were waiting.
Walking down they stopped in front of the carriage.
"Well", Applejack said. "Ah hope ta see you soon, your highness. It was a pleasure havin you here tonight".
Rainbow smiled. "I hope to see you soon as well. Maybe come by for a visit sometime and I can show you around".
The girls smiled at eachother, their fingers linking together.
"Well, goodbye".
They both bowed and smiled at eachother. Applejack took her Rainbow's hand in hers. Leaning over she kissed the top of her hand lightly.
Princess Rainbow Dash blushed. A man came up to them, holding a cape. Applejack placed it around Rainbow's shoulders. Rainbow pulled up the hood, the bottom part was the length of her dress.
"Goodbye Rainbow", Applejack said.
"I feel as though we'll keep saying goodbye until my men have to drag me into the carriage themselves just so we can leave", Rainbow said giggling.
Applejack held her onto the carriage. Rainbow took a seat, looking out of the window. She smiled and waved.
"Be safe princess", princess Applejack said with a nod.
"Don't worry. I'll be just fine. See you soon I hope".
"Ah love you".
Rainbow was quiet for a moment.
"I love you too", she said.
Applejack smiled widely. The carriage began to move. Rainbow waved as the carriage departed from the castle. Applejack waved back.
As the carriage pulled out of sight, she sighed.
"Well. That was something".
Applejack turned back around. She saw Twilight and Rarity standing there grinning.
"Thank you girls so much fir makin me come to the ball".
The two girls walked up to her.
"So let me get this straight", Rarity said. "That girl you were drooling all over earlier is the princess you're going to be marrying anyway".
Applejack nodded. "Yeah".
She felt butterflies in her stomach.
"Ah can't wait ta see her again".
"You've fallen for her, haven't you??", Rarity asked with a smirk.
Applejack sighed dreamily.
"It's more than that, Ah'm in love".
The girls looked surprised. They looked at eachother.
"Told you love at first sight was real", Rarity boasted.
Twilight rolled her eyes. "Shut up".
Applejack rolled eyes. She smiled. "Don't start somethin", she warned. "Ah'm in a great mood".
Rarity gasped and looked at Applejack.
"Ooh you have to tell us everything. We need details".
The girls took Applejack and they all went back into the castle up to Applejack's room. The three spent the night discussing everything that had happened that night during the ball with her and the princess. What a romantic story it was. Love at first sight.
