It had been two days since the interaction at the grocery store.
My work was starting to pile up, mostly stuff with meta. I knew when i got on board with this project that it was going to push me as it was an American company. But I hadn't expected all of this in the first official week working with them.
"Happy Friday Magnolia!" James says as I scan my badge
"Happy Friday to you too James.Where is Adelaide" I ask looking around
"Not here, one of her kids has scarlet fever. I think it's the infant so she's home with him" he explains as I nod
"Oh but she did leave this for you" he says passing me a flash drive labeled Ferrari Content
"Thanks James, have fun being receptionist for the day" I chuckle as he smiles
"I'm already having so much fun and it's only 9" he says as I laugh
I go to the elevator and get to the second floor where my shared office is.
As I enter I hear Freya letting someone have it on the phone.
If anyone thinks I'm more aggressive when it comes to work they've never heard Freya Agitated
"Who is that?" I whisper to her
She pulls the phone away from her mouth "William from Greatwood. So fucking annoying" she says before putting the phone back to her ear and rubs her temple
I log onto my computer and insert the flash drive to begin working on reviewing the content from last years dell partnership
After about an hour Freya leaves to go to a meeting and Paul replaced Freya in the office which gave me someone to talk to
" what does it mean when they say understeer?" I ask pausing the video I was watching
"It's like when they are trying to turn and the car turns less than what they need it to" he says as I nod
His phone chimes and he groans
"I have to go to Freya's meeting about the budgeting for Greatwood. Here is the Meta file you asked for though" Paul says dropping the file on my desk
"You could've given this to me in the last hour you were here" I say and laugh
"Well then you wouldn't have talked to me the last hour" he shrugs
"True" I say as he waves and leaves
I turn off the video completely and open the meta file Paul just gave me and as I was reading through it I found minor issues in it that I would have to fix but this time o couldn't blame Paul and make him fix it since it came from meta.
I was about to take it to Elena to get her help when my phone rung
I walked over and picked up
"Hello?" I ask answering the phone
"Hey Magnolia! You have a visitor, do you want me to send him up?" James asks
I didn't remember having any appointments today but it's possible I've missed writing things down the past few days with everything going on
"Yeah go ahead" I say and sit back down and hang up the phone
Since i was still confused I went onto my calendar and still saw no appointments
If it's an appointment set up by an email then it should automatically put it in.
Maybe it's something Elena put in
There is a knock on the door
"It's open!" I yell scrolling back through my emails as the door opens then shuts
"Nice office Ms.America"Charles says as my eyes dart up and my jaw drops
"No no no, this is not happening" I say and back my chair out
He smiles as I walk i over to him
"You can't be here, it's one thing if you show up at my apartment but showing up at my place of work. This can't happen" I say a point at him
"Well I'm here. So it's happening" he shrugs and walks over to the couch not sitting down though
"You have to go Charles, this is unprofessional." I say as he chuckles
"I'm not leaving until we talk about what happened between us" he argues as i groan
"Your really persistent you know that" I question as he nods
"My best Quality actually" he smiles as i slouch onto the couch
"5 minutes" I sternly as he nods
"How do you feel?" He asks
"Not good, I'm not like that. You were drunk and I was tired and confused and vulnerable and I wanted an escape so I let it happen and I shouldn't have" I sigh as his face drops a tad bit but he changes expressions immediately
"You know, I think I needed an escape too" he softly says
"Look whatever it was, it's behind us. We just need to leave it in the past. It was a mistake and we need to just not" I explain
He nods and stands up
"Well, I'll see you next week Ms.America" he says quietly as i nod walking him to the door
"I'll see you Charles" I say quietly as he walks out
Once I close the door after him the feeling in my stomach was gone.
But it was replaced with a new feeling another one all to familiar to me and I knew it was something I needed to shake immediately if I wanted to maintain a work relationship with Charles
"Ok I just saw Charles walking to the elevator" Paul says walking In without knocking
"Your lucky I don't report you. It's a building rule to knock before you enter" I tease as he waves me off
"You know there is probably some rule against sleeping with clients" he jabs as I roll my eyes
"Not funny" i hiss
"Was he in here?" He asks coming and sitting on the chair across from mine at my desk
"Yeah." I say quitely
If I ask why will I regret it?" He asks
"No he made me talk to him about what happened, and because I'm literally a girl boss I had to keep it professional" I explain as he nods
"So it's going to be awkward next week in the meeting" he assumes as I shrug
"I will do my best to save you second hand embarrassment I joke as he laughs
