He was beautiful.

Obito had stopped in the doorway of the bathroom with the tea, but couldn't help but pause and marvel at his mate. Kakashi was dozing in the bath, eyes closed peacefully, face bare of his mask, all for Obito to see. It made him feel guilty that Kakashi didn't even know who he was. That he was keeping such a secret, but the Obito of Kakashi's childhood no longer existed.

He was dead and would remain that way until the new world was ushered in.

The problem was, there was now a big complication to his plans. Obito had thought things were complicated enough having bonded to Kakashi, but now Kakashi was pregnant with his baby. Of course the Hokage and his council had fucked over Kakashi once again. They still hadn't finished abusing Kakashi, even after all these years.

They would tear Kakashi apart long before it was his time to pass on from this world. Kakashi would never reach his forties at this rate, never mind become an elder.

But Obito wasn't surprised either. Of course the council would do this. In fact, Danzo was probably the one to bring up the idea. It was a shame he couldn't just gut all of them right now for hurting Kakashi, but those four were always a fantastic opportunity to deal deadly blows to Konoha. No, Obito would remain patient. He could avenge everyone whose lives have been fucked over by the council once he stopped having a use for them, but for now they were good at making people suffer.

It is what brought Itachi to him. They made him kill the Uchiha, and now one of their most powerful ninjas was working for him. Of course Itachi was going to have Sasuke kill him one day but for now he was a good pawn to have.

"I can hear you thinking from here," Kakashi said, opening up his grey eye to meet his gaze.

Obito refocused his attention on Kakashi. "Sorry, here, I made you tea." He brought it over, handing it to Kakashi.

"Thanks." Kakashi sipped at it before closing his eyes again. "Thinking about the baby?"

Obito sat at the edge of the bath, and couldn't help but brush Kakashi's hair back. "In a way. How are you coping with all this, Kakashi?"

Kakashi blinked slowly at him, a calculating look in his eyes. Obito sighed at it. "I want an honest answer," he said firmly.

Kakashi huffed, looking away. But he seemed to take the time to think over his thoughts, before sinking further into the water. "I don't know. I'm shocked and horrified that the Hokage just let the council do this. He's usually kinder-"

Obito snorted down a laugh.

"What?" Kakashi glowered.

"The same man who had children graduated early from school and sent them to fight in a world war?" Obito laughed bitterly, ruffling Kakashi's hair. "He may have a nice smile and warm demeanour, but he's a cold, calculating bastard inside. He likes to think he isn't, which is why he lets Danzo do all the dark deeds, but he supports them."

Kakashi squirmed. "That's not- How do you-"

"Shh," Obito hushed, tugging at the silver strands gently. "No need to think too hard about it. They don't like their ninjas thinking too much, gets in the way of people obeying them mindlessly."

Kakashi glared.

Obito smiled fondly. "Go on," he insisted. "Finish your thoughts. How are you coping with everything?"

Kakashi grumbled something unflattering, but Obito paid it no mind. "As I said, I'm shocked and horrified, but I don't want the baby to be hurt... I've... I've hurt so many people already-"

Obito cupped his face, brows furrowed. "Kakashi-"

"I've hurt and killed so many people," Kakashi spat. "And somehow the Hokage saw fit that I would make a good teacher. I'm nothing like my old sensei. He was kind and gentle and-"

"And killed thousands," Obito said dryly.

And couldn't protect his students, his wife, or his son. The man was a complete and utter failure, a fake Minato for a fake world.

Kakashi flinched. "Of course, but-"

"Just as he was taught to do. Just as you were taught to do." Obito took Kakashi's chin, making sure their eyes met. "All of you have been brainwashed into killing machines. It's not your fault you don't know any better, Konoha hasn't allowed you to."

"We keep drifting from the original topic..." Kakashi said weakly.

"We do," Obito agreed, softening considerably. "And you were supposed to relax."

"I think my over all answer is that I'm tired..." Kakashi admitted. "And scared. I don't know what I'm going to do with a baby, but..." Kakashi hardened his resolve. "I won't let this child be raised by someone else in a dark cave."

Obito frowned. The breeding grounds. That's where they sent Omegas who were intended to be impregnated, over and over again, along with the orphan pups, or pups whose parents couldn't (or didn't want to) raise them. Of course apart from Minato's boy. Nobody wanted that boy in their nests. He had been left out of the breeding grounds entirely. Kakashi had apologised to Minato and Kushina's graves hundreds of times for that. That he wasn't allowed to help Naruto, that he wasn't to go near him, that he was so sorry.

It always made Obito's blood boil.

The amount of times he wanted to march out and drag Kakashi away from the graves, tell him off for blaming himself, when it was this world and its leaders that were ruining them all. He managed to resist every time of course, but it never stopped the urge.

Obito shifted his mask a little and pressed a kiss to Kakashi's hair, startling him. The fact that Kakashi wasn't just going with the flow and letting their their baby be handed over to the breeding grounds amazed him. That Kakashi was willing to brave this, despite being scared and traumatised.

He wished he could stay.

Obito wished he could stay with Kakashi and raise their baby together. Stay and help Kakashi with his pregnancy, enjoy the little things, like Kakashi's cravings, and hormones, and scent, and watch as their baby grew.

But their baby was an Uchiha and a Hatake. They would be a ninja. Konoha would accept no less. They wanted their pup's life and they weren't even born yet. No, Obito had a job to do, and he wouldn't fail.

Kakashi threw him an odd look. "You're weird."

Obito chuckled. "Rude. I'm just admiring you."

He startled again, and it pissed Obito off at how starved of compliments Kakashi was that he never knew what to do with them. Kakashi tilted his head curiously.

"Why?"

Obito rolled his eyes and poked Kakashi's forehead, earning a scowl. "You're scared and tired, but you're still willing to defy the council, who I know would love for this pup to be raised by their brainwashed Omegas in the breeding grounds. I think that's very brave of you."

Kakashi shook his head. "I don't get you."

Obito snorted. "You don't get people who compliment you? Obviously your understanding of Might Guy must be lacking then."

"We're rivals," Kakashi said, as if it was the most simplest thing in the world. "But you and I? We barely know each other."

Obito smirked, but of course Kakashi couldn't see it. Kakashi would never catch on to his identity, not unless Obito deliberately showed him. He'd make sure of it. Obito as a pup would have cherished this moment.

"I can hardly feel your emotions either."

"I told you," Obito reminded him. "I don't feel much for this world."

"What does that even mean 'this world'?"

Obito chuckled warmly. "And I also told you that it was of 'no matter'. Are you forgetting things this early in your pregnancy, Kakashi?"

Kakashi flushed.

That was an odd reaction. He had thought Kakashi would scoff, or laugh it off, but no. He was embarrassed-

Oh. Obito barely choked down a laugh. No, instead he leaned forward, purring, and of course Kakashi's Omega responded, cooing softly. Kakashi looked startled by the sound, and his blush deepened.

"What have you forgotten, sweetheart?" Obito teased.

"Nothing," Kakashi lied.

"Mhm?" Obito hummed.

Kakashi huffed. "I might have forgotten to change out of my slippers when I went to take my genin team out for a mission. Sakura pointed it out before we left the gates."

Obito smothered another laugh. He would have paid to see that. Kakashi glowered at him, but finished his tea and sat it aside.

"I haven't really asked how you're feeling about all this," Kakashi admitted, eye hardening.

If he had been the Obito Uchiha from before, he would have already marched into the Hokage's office to commit acts of violence at tricking and upsetting Kakashi. But he wasn't that Obito anymore. No, now he would be patient, and use the old fools until Obito no longer had any need of them.

But he would make them suffer for every hurt they laid upon his mate.

Obito tilted his head. "Shocked, upset for you, because this wasn't your choice, and angry at the old bastards for tricking you. And most of all?" Obito leaned in close, making sure their eyes met. "I want to protect you both-"

"That's your Alpha talking-"

"No," Obito said firmly. "You can smell my scent. I'm not under my Alpha's control. No, I want you and this baby to be safe. I want to take you somewhere safe and comfortable. I want to make you smile, the way you did back in the inn. I want you to stop spending all your time around graves, apologising to people long gone-"

Kakashi flinched.

Obito pressed on. "Especially for things out of your control. This world is at fault. Not you."

"You don't know anything about me, so why would you say that?" Kakashi asked, a shaky edge to his voice.

"Because I care about you and your well-being."

Obito was going to keep Kakashi safe. But first he needed somewhere safe to put Kakashi and the baby- A nest! We need a nest- Obito paused at the thought. Yes. For once his Alpha was right. They needed a nest for Kakashi and the baby.

Baby. Kami they were having a baby. Kakashi was pregnant, vulnerable, and Obito would kill everyone if they dared harmed a hair on Kakashi's head.

"I don't understand you." Kakashi shook his head weakly.

"You will."

Kakashi sighed and leaned forward, closing the distance between them. Obito startled, but Kakashi tilted his mask slightly and pressed a soft kiss against his lips.

"Your Alpha is soaking my bathroom with your scent," Kakashi murmured softly. "I've never smelled a murderous but horny scent before."

Obito blinked. That was an odd description, and neither he'd use to describe his Alpha- He finally smelled the room, and of course his Alpha had chosen to flood the room in Obito's scent. Obito groaned, because fuck, he could smell Kakashi and he smelled lovely. Sweet and delicious. Our mate. Ours and ours and ours. Obito groaned pitifully and laid his head in the crook of Kakashi's neck, breathing in more of his scent. Kakashi's fingers slipped into Obito's hair, brushing through it gently.

"Your Alpha was waiting for my heat," Kakashi noted. He sounded surprised.

Obito rolled his eyes. "Of course. We missed you, idiot."

"You missed having sex with me?" Kakashi laughed.

Obito grumbled and shifted his mask to bite Kakashi's scent gland, earning a gasp. "No. We missed you," he said firmly.

Kakashi sighed. "You're weird."

"And you're emotionally constipated."

Kakashi huffed, but before he could protest Obito mouthed his scent gland. Kakashi moaned softly, growing soft and pliant. His hand tightened in Obito's hair, tugging the strands gently. Obito couldn't help but groan, moving up to press his lips to Kakashi's.

Kakashi deepened the kiss, wrapping his arms around Obito's neck. Obito steadied Kakashi's back, but he had to lean his other hand against the bath's rim to keep them both upright. He rubbed Kakashi's back in soothing circles, his Alpha purring contently.

Yes, this was their mate. And their mate wanted them.

Obito could taste Kakashi's scent. It sent shivers down Obito's spine, and he couldn't help but melt into Kakashi's grasp.

It was a perfect night for a world so fake. But one day there wouldn't be a fake world, and Obito could treasure these moments all the more.
