The moment Lin Ye opened the door to his new office, the first thing that he saw that caught his attention was a pair of familiar yet unfamiliar pair of brown rabbit ears. The girl that was attached to them had her back facing him, making Lin Ye easily see the Rhodes Island logo on her jacket.
Hearing the door opening, the owner of those ears turned and showed a kind expression to him.
Amiya.
The name of the poster girl of Arknights. Based on what little knowledge Lin Ye had about her by knowing the game, she was the head of Rhodes Island. So, in simpler terms, she was his boss. But from what he remembered; the Doctor has a higher rank than her in regard to battles.
Lin Ye still remembered the first time he technically met her. It was when he first arrived on the Landship, and he was just an Intern at the time.
That was years ago.
Lin Ye was not standing in front of her as an intern now.
Now he was the goddamn Doctor.
It was safe to say, Lin Ye really had a very chaotic life through those years.
But he did not have time to think about all of the things that happened to him until now. He had a boss waiting for him. With that thought in his mind, he went into the office as the doors automatically closed behind him.
"Hello Dr. Lin," Amiya smiled at him, "Or should it be Doctor now?"
"I don't really mind," Lin Ye shrugged at her comment, "Depends on what you are comfortable with."
"Doctor it is then," Amiya nodded, "Do you still have trouble adjusting to your new situation?"
"Who wouldn't?" Lin Ye admitted, "I was just an employee for a couple of years and then suddenly promoted into a position that I think I am way underqualified to be in. A bit to adjust to that, you know."
"I understand," She kindly said with a smile on her face. Then her expression dropped a little, "I believe Miss Kal'tsit already told you about the late Doctor."
"Ah."
He remembered when Kal'tsit told him about that topic. From the moment he came into this world Lin Ye wanted to know who this mysterious person was that was literally the centre of the world. The world revolved around him.
When he first got promoted, Lin Ye's first question he asked Kal'tsit was, what happened to the late Doctor?
Kal'tsit's face dropped when he asked her this. However, she recovered quickly and answered all that she knew about the Doctor.
He was dead. Buried six feet under.
He was like this for a long time now. The only reason Kal'tsit managed to hide this fact was a person that he knew.
Lin Ye himself.
At the meeting that Lin Ye was disguised as the Doctor, at that time, Kal'tist was considering telling them that Ian, the Doctor was ill, and he could not be there. However, when Lin Ye arrived, it was like God finally gave Kal'tsit a break. He was almost the perfect fit to be disguised as the Doctor.
So Kal'tsit used him as a scapegoat of some sort. A backup plan if the Doctor was needed. At first, Kal'tsit thought that was his role. However, when Lin Ye started to bring a lot of benefits to Rhodes Island the idea of making him the Doctor started to appear in her mind.
She finally made her decision when Rhodes Island got an amazing relationship with Yan, one of the most powerful countries in the world. Based on her, this was only possible because of him.
Then there was another question.
How'd Ian died?
Her answer was simple.
He died before Rhodes Island was a thing.
He died when Kal'tsit and most of the veterans of Rhodes Island were under another name.
Babel.
Ian died mysteriously in the same room as the leader of Babel. For someone that did not know anything about this world, they might believe her.
However, Lin Ye was different.
Lin Ye knew the Doctor was not dead.
Although little, he had knowledge of what was to come in the future.
Ian was still in Chernobog, waiting for Rhodes Island to rescue him. He knew this because of a game.
Arknights.
He knew that Kal'tsit was lying to him. She wanted to make Lin Ye a temporary solution. He was buying them time.
He was being lied to his face.
He was being used.
Like a damn tool.
Although that was the case, Lin Ye was not mad.
He was okay with it. Lin Ye knew Kal'tsit was only doing this because her hands are tied. She was desperate and it showed.
The woman just offered an important position to him of all people. If that did not show how dire the situation was for Rhodes Island, nothing would.
So for now...
"I am sorry for the loss," Lin Ye's face softened as he said this to her, "It must have been hard for you. To carry all the responsibility at such a young age."
Lin Ye will keep this to himself and just play along. He wanted to see how all this will end.
The worst case that would happen was his death.
Nothing he did not face before.
He died once after all. Dying again was not something that bother him much.
Putting his morbid thoughts away, for now, Lin Ye walked past Amiya and towards his new table. On it, he saw documents that vary in type.
Details on recruits, classified information about the company, and details on the infrastructures to name a few.
Glancing away from them, Lin Ye raised a brow at Amiya.
"So?" He folded his arms, "I still do not know what I am supposed to do as the Doctor."
"Oh?" Amiya looked surprised, "Miss Kal'tsit did not inform you?"
"She did but not much though," Lin Ye nodded, "I just know that I will be the first person to talk with parties that Rhodes Island is interested in working with. Other than that, I am clueless."
Amiya smiled and nodded at him.
"I understand," She walked to the table and took a piece of the documents on it, "Miss Kal'tsit was right, you will the first person to come in if it is related to diplomatic matters. You also need to read through some documents about Rhodes Island."
"I see," Lin Ye hummed. He nodded and smiled at her, "I guessed as much. But it's better hearing it in person."
Lin Ye chuckled
"Thank you, Amiya."
Lin Ye down at the documents on the table. He did this just in time to miss Amiya's reaction after he said this.
Her body tensed. Her eyes widened. As she was staring at Lin Ye going through the files in front of him, the image of someone else replaced him.
A man that was about the same age and height as Lin Ye. The only difference that both of them had were the colour of their hair and eyes.
Lin Ye had black hair and eyes.
While this man? He had light brown hair and hazel-coloured eyes.
The man noticed her and stared and turned to look at her. He raised a brow at her.
"Amiya?"
"Amiya?"
Amiya snapped back to reality and saw Lin Ye replacing the man. His dark eyes stared into her in confusion.
"Is something the matter?" Lin Ye asked.
"Ah!" She shook her head, "It's nothing Doctor. I was just spacing out."
She instantly recovered. However, a thought lingered in her mind.
He's just like him.
Lin Ye raised his brow at her. He was dumb but he was not an idiot. Something was bothering his boss. Just as Lin Ye was about to ask her more about this, a thought appeared in his mind. This made him stop himself.
He almost forgot an important thing about Amiya.
She shared a bond with the previous Doctor. Based on how little he knew about Arknight, he still remembered the very first person that found the Doctor.
It was Amiya. When the stories went on, Lin Ye got to know the only reason that Rhodes Island even bothered to go and find the Doctor was because of her.
This told him enough about how much this girl cherished Doctor. Maybe the reason why she was still not used to Lin Ye was that he was not Ian.
He was not the Doctor that she cherished so much.
Lin Ye put aside Amiya's strange behaviour just now. It might for the better that he just ignored it and carried on with his life.
"So Amiya?" Lin Ye hummed, "Do I have any privileges?"
She looked at him confused, "Privileges?"
"Yeah," He nodded, "I just need to know I have any. Might come in useful for a rainy day."
Realizations hit Amiya and she nodded at him.
"Ah, I understand," She nodded, "For what only you can do, you can go anywhere on the Landship. The PRTS will follow your orders. You are only below me and Miss Kal'tsit, Doctor."
Lin Ye nodded.
"Good to hear."
He pulled out his phone and noticed the time.
"I remember Kal'tsit telling me there was something I need to do when I met you," Lin Ye stared back at the girl, "Do you know what it is?"
Amiya smiled at this.
"Yes, there is something that needs your attention," She nodded. She took a paper out from the pile on the table, "A representative sent by Yan is coming today."
"Yan?" Lin Ye was intrigued now.
"Yes," She smiled, "She would be already on the Landship by no-."
*Knock*! *Knock*!
Before she could finish, a knock could be heard behind them. They turned and faced the office's door.
The Doctor raised a brow at the door
That was convenient.
Lin Ye's mind came up with a different guess on who this mysterious person would be.
Hui-Chieh?
Swire?
Maybe it was someone from the royal family? If that was the case, he wanted Lily.
"That must be her," Amiya stared back at him and smiled, "Let's meet her."
But he did not have time to speculate any further when Amiya called him. He turned to stare at her and smiled back.
"Yeah," He chuckled, "We don't want to make her wait long."
Amiya giggled at his reply. They both walked to the door. As they were closing to door, Lin Ye got himself ready to talk with this person.
Amiya was the one that arrived at the door first. She opened the door a greeted the person behind it.
"Hello, welcome to Rhodes Island." Amiya pushed the door wide open now and showed Lin Ye to the person in front of her. She introduced him to the person, "Doctor had been waiting for now."
Just as Lin was about to greet the person with a smile on his face, when he saw who it was, his expression turned into a surprise.
"Huh?" Lin Ye arched his brow at the familiar blonde woman in front of him with a smile on his face. He chuckled and smiled at the woman.
"How have you been, Leizi?" He asked.
The Kylin took back a step.
"Your Highness?!"
