So this is based on Jim Stienman's Bat Out Of Hell The Musical. It is an amazing musical featuring songs written by Jim Steinman and known for being sung by Meat Loaf who recently passed away.
If you get the chance to see the musical, please do. It is amazing and you can support live theatre at the same time because theatre has struggled because of the pandemic. If you have no idea who either of those people are, please have a listen to their music, it's definitely worth it.
You often thought back to that day. The day that everything had changed.
You'd just been hanging out in the tunnels, joking around and having fun. Tink was riding around on his bike while Jagwire was attempting to persuade Zahara into a make out session. The latter was having none of it and kept pushing him away. The person you were more interested in was Strat.
And then the ground had shook so violently you'd ended up on the floor.
"Valkyrie, where are you?"
"The tunnel's blocked!"
You pushed yourself up off of the ground and staggered to your feet. There was another shock through the ground but you'd managed to keep your balance.
"(Y/n)! (Y/n)!" You'd recognise that voice anywhere.
"Strat!" All the light from the tunnel entrance was gone, so was all the other lights that had been set up. Starts arms wrapped around you, his messy hair brushing against your face.
"The tunnel's blocked, we can't get out," he said. Your heart sank. The tunnels weren't exactly the safest place, but it was the only place everyone could escape from their lives to the small bit of safety we had.
Another shock through the ground, similar to the first, brought the two of you crashing through the floor. Strat pulled you close to him and bricks fell through the roof. You coughed at the dust, even though your face was buried in his red shirt.
"Are you alright?" he asked. You nodded.
"Yeah, you?"
"Yeah." The dust in the air didn't seem to be clearing though, in fact, it didn't look much like dust. More like a sort of gas. "Did you see Tink?"
"He was messing around with his bike before, but I don't know," you said honestly. Strat seemed to look after Tink like he was a little brother, and he was younger than everyone else. Since it had been your eighteen birthday a few days ago, it made everyone except for Tink eighteen.
"I don't think that's normal gas," Jagwire said. There was a crowd now, looking at the entrance to the tunnel, or what had been the entrance. It was blocked with huge stones, and parts of the roof that had collapsed. Strat walked forward a little and you rushed to join him. Your heart was beating inside of your chest so loudly you feared it would burst out and run away with fear. If Strat wasn't here, you'd have definitely have already done exactly that.
"How are we going to get out?" Valkyrie asked.
"I don't know," said Strat as he climbed up the rumble. You wished he'd be careful. "I don't know what this... this is in the air." He waved his hand through it, it was getting thicker and thicker,
"Maybe its one of those chemical weapons, they were storing them somewhere near here, right?" said Ledoux. He turned to Jagwire who just shrugged.
"It's not coming from outside, it can't be," I said. There wasn't any light getting in, so the gas couldn't be coming from there.
From behind you there was a shriek and painful scream. Strat scanned the people who stood together with you before his eyes widened and he jumped down.
"Tink!" Strat pushed through the crowd and you ran after him as he disappeared further down the tunnel.
Shuddering, you tried not to remember what had happened next but it was impossible not to. Tink's pained screams as he writhed on the ground. The gas in the air had been so thick it was even harder to see.
And then it had started being painful, whatever had happened to Tink had happened to everyone. Every nerve in your body screamed for light and fresh air, and for relief from the pain engulfing your entire body. You'd never felt pain like it, and you never wanted to again.
And when it stopped, you could barely breathe. Strat's arms around you reminded you that you were still alive, that he was still alive.
"We have to find a way out."
It had taken days to get out. And days to recover.
It had been years ago and since then, none of you had aged a day, not even Tink. People said it was something to do with frozen DNA.
"You can hide away forever from the storm, but you'll never hide away from me." Turning, you saw Strat leaning against the wall of the tunnel. You hated being in them, but nowhere was safe for you and the Lost any more. Strat slowly walked towards you. "The icy cold will cut us like a knife in the dark, and we may lose everything in the wind. But the Northern Lights are burning, and they're giving off sparks."
"I don't know how you come up with what you say," you said quietly. He came up with such strange and weird poetry that still managed to sound brilliant.
"It just comes to me."
"I have to go, Strat," you finally said.
"Go where?" he asked.
"Somewhere," you said with a shrug. "Anywhere. Somewhere that isn't here. We've lived here for years and... and we haven't aged a day! And this Falco guy scares me."
"He's just got a tower," scoffed Strat as he held your hands. "And a few bodyguards, what's he gonna do?"
"No, it's more than that," you said, shaking your head. "He's in charge of this place now. And... and I need to go back to the mainland. I need to get there somehow, Strat. My parents-"
"Your parents were horrible. And it's probably not much better there. Stay here, with me?" He squeezed your hands and you considered it.
"I'm sorry, Strat. I don't know how I can. I just... I can always come back. I know you like being young forever, but I just don't know what to do. And I need to see if my family is okay, even if my parents are horrible."
"You'll come back?"
"Of course I will, I'll miss you too much." Strat kissed you, a quick kiss that caught you by surprise but you soon kissed back.
"You better miss me." He grinned and you shook your head even though you smiled.
"I will now. But hey, I wasn't planning on leaving until tomorrow."
"You're serious?" Hesitantly, you nodded. "Well, I'm going to make this the best night of your life, so what do you want to do?" Smiling, you weaved your fingers into his messy blond hair and kissed him again.
