Maya's POV
I was woken up at 3:00 to my phone buzzing, carina must have heard it too as she turned around to ask me who it was. I searched for my phone in the dark and switched it on and read all the messages I had.
Dad = hey kiddo, I'm going to swing by the station tomorrow to make sure you've grown out of this phase already.
Stephanie (sister) = Maya, dads drunk again, he ran out of the house saying he was looking for you, I don't know if he knows where you are but if he does, just be careful Maya
Mum = have you been getting the messages? He beat your sister up again and ran out of the house looking for you.
Dad = what number are you, 19?
Dad = I found your sister kissing a girl, following in your filthy footsteps I see
Dad = I beat her up just like I did you lol
"Maya, what's wrong?"
I was now sat upright on the bed with my breath stuck in my throat
"Maya, who texted you, what's wrong?"
The sounds started to go fuzzy, and I started seeing stars until everything went black
Carinas POV
"Omg, Maya?!"
I immediately picked up the phone to ring Amelia not knowing who else to call
"Amelia, I need help"
"Are you home?"
"Ye it's Maya," I said while trying not to cry
"Ok carina I'm on my way, 2 minutes"
I heard Amelia banging on the door and rushed over
"it's Maya- she got a text- she couldn't breathe- then- then she passed out- what do I do?"
"You need to breathe too; I can't help her if you pass out on me "
"You said she got a text?"
"Yes, her phone wouldn't stop buzzing"
"Check who it is"
"What?"
"Trust me, check who it is"
I went over to the phone and immediately realized why she passed out when I saw the messages that kept coming through.
"Oh my god, Amelia look at this!"
"Well, that explains why she passed out, she should come back around soon as it's just a panic attack but when she does, she'll be paranoid"
She starts to move a bit then opens her eyes and immediately starts hyperventilating again, realizing what was happening
"Carina? My dad- he's- he's going to the station- "
"I know Maya, we can stay here it's ok"
"No, I have to go down there"
"What? Why?" I say confused
"Because if he goes down there and sees Vic who's on reception right now, I don't want to find out what he will do when she says I'm not there"
"Maya, he won't do anything," Amelia says
"You don't know my dad. If there's anything worse than my dad when he's angry, it's my dad when he's drunk. He just beat my sister up carina, I'm not letting him beat Vic up too"
"But you'll get hurt," I say panicking
"No, I won't, I'll calm him down, I'll lie about everything, and I'll get him to leave"
"Ok, but we're coming too," Amelia says
"What no, I'm not letting you get hurt," carina says confused
"I won't, trust me"
"Fine, let's go"
We all arrived at the station and Maya's dad wasn't there luckily. We walked in and Maya called everyone up to the beanery. Nobody knows about Maya's dad except me and Amelia, so I didn't know what she was going to tell them.
"Ok everyone, it's a long story so nobody asks questions, but my dad is on his way to the station and he is drunk, whenever he's drunk he has a tendency to beat anybody up that he can see. I think I can get him to calm down, but I need backup, ok?"
Everyone was looking around wide-eyed and confused as to why Maya was on the verge of tears.
"I'll be at reception waiting for him, but I need dean and jack to be close. Warren and Andy, I need you in a room with carina and Amelia in case he goes off and manages to find you. Tavis and Vic, I need you in reception, just so he can see there are other people there and hopefully won't try anything, to begin with. Everyone ok?"
"Ye ok let's go," Miller says loudly
Nobody's POV
Amelia and carina went with Andy and warren into the conference room upstairs as it was the furthest room from reception and dean and jack were waiting in the bunks next to Maya's office. Travis and Vic were sitting at reception with Maya as she was staring out the window waiting for him.
After a few minutes, Maya saw her dad approaching the front of the station with a face full of fire. Maya was starting to realize that this wasn't the best idea but knew there was no backing down.
Carina and Amelia now realized that they could see reception through the glass walls of the room which was making it very hard for carina to stay where she was.
He walked into the station immediately seeing Maya and walking right up to her face.
"Where is she huh?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Your sister told me, right before I pounded her little head into the ground. She asked why she couldn't kiss a girl if you were dating one."
"she's lying, she must have just said it to make herself feel better" she tries to argue
"I've never liked you, never, you always lied to me. I'm not stupid, I know she's here, so I suggest you tell me where, it's like we always said, protect yourself. Tell me where she is so I can beat her up instead of you, huh?"
"there's no one here, there's nothing to tell you!"
"One more lie comes out of that filthy mouth, and I'll do to you what I did to your sister," he said while doing his signature degrading smile
"Leave dad!"
With that, his face immediately met Maya's face, his wedding ring cutting right through her cheek.
Carina was watching this whole thing happen despite being told by everyone that she shouldn't.
"No, Amelia I'm going down there!"
"No carina! You're not. What do you think he will do to Maya when he puts the pieces together huh? If he does that because he thinks she's lying, what do you think he'll do when he not only realizes that she is, but she's also dating a girl, the one thing that he would literally kill her for doing!"
She turned back around to continue watching.
"Dean! Jack!" Vic yelled to the guys
They came running out and managed to push him away from Maya and into the office. Everyone went in to try and create a barrier between him and his daughter. Maya managed to stand up and walked into her office to give her dad a last yelling match before they kicked him out.
"Ok, ok, chill I won't hit her again"
Everyone was behind Maya who was standing in front of her desk with blood dripping down her cheek
"You know what, I don't have any more energy for you, I'm leaving"
Maya wasn't going to fight him and watched him as he walked out of her office but turned back after he was outside.
"Thought you were going to get rid of me that easy huh?" he said laughing
Before anybody realized it, he had slammed the door shut and locked it from the outside before moving the cabinet over to block it.
"let's go see if you were lying"
With that, he stormed off and was checking every room he could see. Everybody in the office was screaming and trying to break the door down which would've been successful if he hadn't put the cabinet in front of it.
He was now running upstairs slowly edging closer to the conference room where all 4 of them were trying to find a way to sneak out before he got there.
As if on command Sullivan walked into reception coming in for his shift. Everyone was now yelling at him to move the cabinet out the way and unlock the door, both of which he did before they all ran out and went straight up to the conference room.
Lane managed to get there before they did and was now standing in front of Andy and warren who were trying to protect the two girls.
the group stopped behind him when they saw that he had picked up a knife from the kitchen.
"dad" Maya spoke quietly
"You did this to yourself, Maya, I told you, again and again, it was wrong, but you didn't listen did you"
He was still facing the girls and couldn't see Maya, so she decided she had the opportunity to make carina aware of what she was about to do. Carina also learned sign language as an extra-curricular when she was in high school so Maya decided she could sign to her.
'I have a plan, trust me, don't let anybody follow me'
I knew she understood and was hoping that the rest of them wouldn't follow me when I do what I'm about to do
"Dad, look at me"
He turned around with the knife still out to face Maya
"We can leave, you and me, I'll come back home, I'll start training again, it will be me and you again, yeah?"
"Why would you do that"
"Because your right, I should've listened, eyes forward at all times, I knew it was wrong, but I did it anyway, so I'll come back with you, and I'll tell Stephanie that it's wrong, ill fix it, ok?"
"let's go" he demands
Maya turned around in front of her dad and led him away from the room and to the stairs. Right as dean was about to run after them carina stopped them all.
Maya was going down the stairs as he had lowered his knife and as they were halfway down, she managed to turn around and grab the back of his neck before slamming it into the metal railing. Everyone was watching from the windows and saw her as she pushed him down the stairs and into the wall.
As soon as they realized that he was unconscious they all rushed down to Maya before remembering she most likely wouldn't want anyone near her right now.
Mayas POV
As soon as I saw carina, I ran over to her giving her the second hug I had ever received. We both ended up crying into each other's shoulders which stung when it hit the cut I had on my face
"We should probably get you to the hospital, that's a nasty cut," Amelia said from behind them
"What about him?" I asked
"Why do you think I wanted you to come here so badly?" Amelia said before revealing a camera in her jacket pocket
Everyone looked at her confused.
"I have the whole thing on camera: him punching you, trapping you all in the office, threatening us with a knife, and they can see you did it in self-defence. It's easily enough to get him imprisoned"
"Thank you so much, Amelia," carina said before giving her the hug I wasn't quite ready to give yet
"You go to the hospital, I'll call PD" dean said ushering us out
Carinas POV
"Do we have to go?" Maya said quietly to me and Amelia
"Hm?"
"I don't- I don't want them to, " Maya said while getting worked up again
"let's go in here," Amelia said
Amelia and I stayed at the door when Maya went and sat down in her chair not being able to breathe properly
"Maya?" Amelia said stepping closer to her
"No, stay there!" Maya said whilst fighting to take a breath
"It's ok, we're staying here" I tried to reassure
"No- I can't go there- they- I can't- "
"Maya look at me!" I said loudly
"Why don't you want to go?"
"they're going to touch my face," she said in a whisper
"can't you let carina, do it?" Amelia askes confused
"no"
"She won't let anybody touch her face, not even me" I whispered to Amelia
"Well, what if they sedate you, then you'll wake up and It would be done"
We both looked over at Maya and saw the color completely gone from her face as she was staring at the table
Maya's POV
Hearing the words come out of Amelia's mouth brought back the memories I never wanted to see again. I felt physically sick. I couldn't focus on anything; it all just came rushing back.
