Y/N's P.O.V.
I had been dating Tony Stark for 5 years. We had what you might call an 'open relationship'. Tony slept with whoever he wanted and at the end of the day, he'd come home and we'd act like a normal couple. We'd have dinner, watch a movie, go out on dates.
Unfortunately, sometimes one of Tony's new lady friends would join us. I considered retaliating by inviting someone of my own over, but it wasn't worth it. Besides, I didn't have anyone to call. Unlike Tony, I found it very difficult to balance my work, my relationship and hookups.
But, ever since Tony became Iron Man, things changed.
He drank less, he worked more, he was a lot more committed to our relationship.
"What do you think?" Tony asked, looking at me excitedly.
"You want me to... take over Stark Industries? As in... be the CEO?" I asked in disbelief.
"Tony, I can't. I-"
"Y/N, I know you've been bored lately. It's a gift. I can't be a superhero and a CEO. There's no one I trust more with the role." I pulled a face at that and he laughed a little.
"Look, I talked to Pepper about it, and she's more than happy for you to do it. She can help you with anything you don't understand, she's been doing that for me for years. What do you say?"

"That's the paperwork sorted." Pepper gave me a small smile.
"I'm going to-"
"Can you just sit down for a second?" I sighed, looking at the woman, who hesitated, before doing as I asked.
"Sorry, I'm just a little overwhelmed right now. I don't want to be here. I don't want to do Tony's job."
"Then why'd you say yes?" Pepper asked softly and I looked at her.
"Because I was tired and I didn't want him pestering me until we argued about it." I stood up and moved over to the wall, which was just a big window, looking out over the city.
"Tony is amazing, but sometimes he doesn't understand what he wants and what other people want are two different things."
"What do you want?" Pepper asked, coming to stand next to me. Whereas I had my back to the window, she was looking out of it.
I shook my head, not knowing how to answer without sounding selfish.
"Miss L/N-"
"Don't call me that, please." I cringed.
"Sorry. Y/N, I'm your assistant now. I'll do anything I can to help with your work or your personal life, even if that includes having you rant at me about your relationship. All of our conversations are strictly confidential. You know that." I let out a shaky breath.
"Talk to me, it's obvious you want to."
"It's just... I love Tony, okay? But sometimes, I don't know. Sometimes he's the last person I want to be around.
We have an open relationship, but sometimes I'll work late and come home to find another girl in our bed and I'm just tired of it. I tried going out and hooking up, but after the deed was done, Tony came home and she crawled off to him, which just pissed me off." Pepper frowned at me.
"People know who I am and it's like they sleep with me to get to him, which just leaves me feeling..." I wiped away a tear that slipped down my face, letting out a choked laugh.
"Sorry. Crying on the first day of work is never a good sign, is it?"
"Don't apologise." Pepper whispered.
"I'm sorry that's how you feel. Tony should know better." I shook my head and she touched my arm and my entire body lit up with what felt like electricity for a moment. I sucked in a breath, looking at the redhead next to me. I didn't dare move as she reached up and cupped my cheek, before bringing her lips to mine. She kissed me softly and I didn't hesitate to kiss her back, my hands landing on her waist.
After a few minutes, I stopped, stepping back.
"No, I'm sorry, I can't-".
"It's okay." Pepper reassured.
"That was unprofessional. We're at work." I nodded my head.
"So how about dinner? Later tonight?"
"What?" I looked at her in confusion.
"Let me take you out for dinner. I want you, not Tony. I like you, Y/N. I've liked you for a while." The woman explained and my jaw dropped.
"Pepper, thank you, but I'm still with Tony." I tried.
"I'm sure you're wonderful-"
"It's dinner. If you don't want it to go any further, it doesn't have to. I know Tony has taken more than one girl out to dinner in these past 5 years." I swallowed nervously and nodded.
"Yes?"
"Yeah, okay." I smiled a little. A rush of adrenaline washed over me and without even thinking, I pulled her close and kissed her again. She seemed surprised, but quickly melted into the kiss, just before someone knocked on the door.
"We're at work, remember?" Pepper smirked a little as I huffed. She picked up all the signed paperwork from the desk, before moving to the door as I slid into my seat.
"So unprofessional." She jokingly scolded and I rolled my eyes.
