In the afternoon, Bondita and Anirudh were ready to go somewhere. They were just stepping out of the house when Kaka stopped them.
Kaka: areh Anirudh, yeh bahu ko leke kaha jaa rahe ho?
Anirudh: vo Kaka.... Bondita to aab barristery practice kar sakti hai. Ishiliye hum dono Barrister Majumdar se baat karne jaa rahe the, taki Bondita Barrister Majumdar ke under barristery practice karke ek achi aur kabil barrister baan paye, kyu Bondita?(looked at Bondita)
Bondita smiled.
Kaka: koi jarurat nahi....(Kaka said with a loud voice)
"Matlab?" Anirudh and Bondita both were shocked.
Kaka: matlab ki bahu ko kisi paraya mard ke inha barristery practice karneki koi jarurat nahi hai....(with a firm voice he said)
Anirudh: yeh kya keh rahe hai aap Kaka? Agar Bondita barristery practice nahi karegi to kabil barrister kese banegi?
Kaka: hume kuch nahi pata. Humne keh diya to keh diya. Bahu ush paraya mard ke unha barristery practice karne nahi jayegi matlab nahi jayegi ( he was firm at his decision)
Anirudh: yeh kesi zid hai Kaka? Main esab nahi manne wala(irritatingly)....chalo Bondita...(held her hand)
Bondita was totally shocked with the sudden decision of her kakasasurji that she didn't move. She was lost in her thoughts. Her face was revealing her condition.
Kaka: Bahu...tum humari baat nahi manogi? (With a soft voice)
Bondita looked at Kaka.
Anirudh: Bondita tum chalo mere sath....abhi...(with a loud voice)
Bondita looked at Anirudh.
Kaka: keh do bahu tumhare patibabu ko ki tum sirf meri baat manogi...(proudly)
Anirudh: keh do tum Bondita tum Kaka ko ki ish baar unki manmani nahi chalegi...(with a firm voice)
Bondita was confused between them. They were arguing with eachother and were dragging Bondita. She couldn't disobey her kakasasurji, but how she couldn't hear to her patibabu? But Anirudh and Kaka were not ready to stop. They started arguing with a high pitch. Koyli and Bihari came running hearing the noise. They kept hands on ears when their voice reached the peak. "Bass kijiye aap dono..." Bondita shouted after not being able to tolerate this torture on ears anymore. Anirudh and Kaka stopped.
Bondita: kyu ladh rahe hai aap dono ese? Chup ho jayiye...
Anirudh: main chup nahi rahunga Bondita agar Kaka apne zid pe tike rahenge to...(again shouted)
Kaka: keh do bahu tumhare ish patibabu ko ki hum humari sidhant se piche nahi hathenge (volubly)
"Hey dugga maa, kya karu main aab?" Bondita thought.
Bondita: patibabu...agar kakasasurji ki icha nahi hai to hume nahi jana chahiye...(Bondita said with a low voice)
Kaka: dekha Anirudh, yeh humari hi Bahu hai....(Kaka said proudly)
Anirudh: kya dekha Anirudh? (Mimicking him)... Bondita meri taraf dekho (turned Bondita towards him)... Bondita jis sapne ke liye humne itna ladha tum aab ushe itne halke mein kyu le rahi ho? (Bondita looked at the floor).... Bondita tum janti ho nah initial days mein kisi experienced Barrister ke under barristery practice karna jaruri hota hai ( Bondita nodded)....to kyu tum nahi maan rahi ho? (Shaking her)
Bondita had nothing to reply. She was just looking downward.
Kaka: Anirudh, tumhe kya hum dushman lagte hai? (Anirudh rolled his eyes with disgust)....hum bahu ke barristery practice karne ke birudh nahi hai, par koi paraya mard ke inha nahi.... pehlehi bohot baate bana chuke hai logo ne. Hum aur unhe mauka nahi dena chahte hai bahueko badnam karneki. Aur vesebhi, vo Barrister Majumdar ek avivahit purush hai. Hum unke pass humari bahu ko kyu veje? Roy Chawdhuryo ka koi maan samman hai yah nahi?
Anirudh: apko maan samman ki padhi hai, par Bondita ki khushiya aur vabisya ki nahi? (Anirudh shouted in anger)
Kaka: tumhe lagta hai hume bahu ki koi chinta nahi? Areh chinta karte hai ishiliye to mana kar rahe hai...
They again started arguing. And Bondita again get stuck between them with a confused and worried state. "Areh chup ho jayiye aap dono" Binoy's voice came from behind. They turned.
Binoy: kyu ladh rahe ho aap dono? Jiske liye aap dono ladh rahe ho nah, piche dekhiye, kitni pareshan ho chuki hai vo...
Anirudh and Kaka turned and saw Bondita's tensed face. They felt sorry for her.
Anirudh: dekhiye nah Baba Kaka ko, keh rahe hai ki....(he couldn't complete as Kaka started)
Kaka: kya dekhega yeh? Binoy tum meri baat suno...(Binoy stopped Kaka)
Binoy: hum jante hai Da ki aap aur Anirudh kya keh rahe hai. Par ese ladhke koi haal nahi niklega.
Anirudh: to kya kare Baba aap hi batayiye...
Kaka: hume bhi koi rasta nahi mil raha hai jisse Bondita ki barristery bhi nah ruke aur log baatein bhi nah banaye...
Binoy: mere pass ek rasta hai..
Kaka and Anirudh: kya?
Binoy: Anirudh tum khud bhi to barrister ho aur kitne log tumhare under bhi kam karte hai. To Bondita bhi tumhare under hi practice karlegi. Isse Da ka bhi baat reh jayega aur Bondita ko bhi koi pareshani nahi hogi..
The tension on Bondita's face started fading and Kaka's face was also showing his acceptance of Binoy's proposal. But Anirudh was not happy with this. He was quite looking at the floor as something was troubling him.
Binoy: kya hua Anirudh? Tum chup kyu ho gaye? Yeh prashtav acha nahi laga kya?
Kaka: Acha kyu nahi bohot acha hai....isse acha to aur kuch hoyi nahi sakta (Kaka said happily)
Bondita too nodded her head smilingly. But Anirudh looked at them just for once and then left for study room. "Ishe kya ho gaya!" Kaka exclaimed shockingly. Bondita became tensed and followed him. When she entered into the room, she found Anirudh was sitting on the couch with a tensed face. Bondita sat beside him and held his hand gently.
Bondita: kya hua patibabu? Aap achanak se ese kyu chale aye? (With concern) Main apke sath kam karu yeh aap nahi chahte kya? (Worriedly)
Anirudh looked at Bondita with eyes full of love.
Anirudh: tum mere sath kam karo, aur mujhe bura lage esa ho sakta hai vala?
Bondita: to aap kyu chale aye unha se?
Anirudh kept Bondita's both hands in between his hands.
Anirudh: Bondita, tumhari mere under kam karne se koi problem nahi. Par main nahi chahta ki log bole ki Bondita apni pati ke chaya pe reh karhi Barrister baan payi hai. Main nahi chahta ki log apni bachiyo ko yeh sikhaye ki Bondita ke pati ne ushe kabil banaya hai to hum tumhare Baba Maa hoke tumhe kyu padhaye? Tumhara pati sochega ki tumhe padhana hai yah nahi. (Paused for a while).... Bondita main chahta hu ke log tumhe tumhari naam se jane, naki mere naam se. Aur baki ladkiyo pe bhi tumhare piche mere naam ki koi galat asar na padhe (said worriedly)
Bondita held Anirudh's face and kissed his forehead. Anirudh looked at her eyes.
Bondita: patibabu main apki baat samajh sakti hu. Par aap hi batayiye samajh mein aur samajh ki logo mein sari parivartan kya ek sath laya jaa sakta hai? Nahi nah (Anirudh nodded no)...to aap kese soch sakte hai ki hum sari parivartan ek sath ladenge? Hum koshis karte rahenge to dhire dhire samay ke sath samajh mein aur samajh ki logo ki dristi kon mein jarur parivartan ayega. Aur rahi baat mere piche apke naam ki to, apka naam mere naam ko chupata nahi balki mujhe hosla deta hai age badhneka. Aur apse to kitne log anupranit hote hai. Aap dekhna main apki under kaam karungi to samajh mein uski galat nahi achi asar hi padhega.
Anirudh: shotti?
Bondita: shotti! (holding her neck)
Bondita: vese baki cheeze apke upar ki aap mujhe apke under kaam karne denge yah nahi...( Teasing him)
Anirudh: achaji?(pulled her cheeks)
They both laughed.
