"Hey Clara, I'm just popping out! I'll be back soon!" Bucky called up the stairs to you. "Wait!!!" You yelled, running down the stairs. "I'm so bored! Take me with you! Where are you going?" You said quickly. Bucky chuckled at your reaction "I'm just going out to do some little things, there's no point you coming along." You pouted sadly and sighed "Please! Bucky I am so bored and cause you love you me you want to take me!" Again Bucky just laughed and ruffled your hair. "Yes I do love you but no go do something else!" You frowned now, getting a but concerned. "Why don't you want me to come along? What are you doing that I can see?" The playful attitude was gone now. "Nothing! I just think you would benefit more from staying home and doing some flying training or something." You were annoyed now "Fine! I won't come with you!" You said grumpily then turned around and started walking back up the stairs, very conscious of trying not to sound like you're storming off. "Oh come on Clara, don't be like that! I didn't mean to upset you!" Once you reached the top of the stairs you turned around and said to him "Well it's too late!" You paused and sighed "Look, just go out and do what you want! We can talk about this later, I just overreacted." He smiled from the bottom of the stairs and came running up. He wrapped his metal around your waist and gave you a hug. "I love you." Then he gave you a quick peck on the nose and dashed back down the stairs "Love you too!" You called as he shut the door behind him. Then you ran out to the garden and jumped up into the air, unleashing your angel wings; and flying off around the city.
Letting out another sign behind the door, Bucky carried on to his car. He got into his car and drove to Steve's house. "No turning back now Buck." He said quietly to himself outside of Steve's door. Then he knocked on the door and waited for it to open. "Bucky!" Steve said once he opened the door. Giving him a hug he said "What're you doing here? Not that I mind!" Bucky smiled at Steve's reassurances. "Oh I just came to hang out, hope you don't mind me just turning up like this!" Steve grinned and said "Not a problem! Come in!" Then the two of them went and watched some films while talking about the good old times. Hours later Bucky noticed the time. "Oh I really should be getting back to Clara soon!" He said. "How is my sister?" Steve asked. "Yeah she's fine, I think she's out practicing her flying at the moment." Steve grinned and chuckled "When isn't she?" Both of them laughed for a moment before Bucky grew a bit more serious. "Steve, I need to ask you something." Steve sat up straight and nodded "What's up?" Bucky took a deep breath "You know that me and Clara have been together since 1936 and our relationship is so great, Clara helped me remember myself and I'm so glad that she ended up freezing with you otherwise we would have lost her. Although it may be old fashioned, we are all old fashioned and I feel like there's at least one tradition I need to maintain. As your father is... no longer with us, you are Clara's only male relative. What I am trying to say is - will you give me your blessing to ask Clara to marry me?" There was a silence when Steve just grinned at Bucky and Bucky waited for Steve's response nervously. The silence continued "Steve?" Bucky said waving a hand in his face. "Right, yes of course! I can't think of someone more perfect for Clara than you!" The he stood up hugged Bucky tightly, Bucky sighing in relief. "I'm so glad you agreed!" He said happily. Steve grinned "Of course I said yes! You're going to be my brother-in-law!" Bucky grinned as well. "That's if she says yes." Bucky added realising he still had to ask you. He then left Steve's apartment and headed into town. He bought a few things he needed for his proposal and the went home to you.
Once he arrived home you were having lunch. "Hey sweetie! You're back soon!" You said when Bucky entered your house. He grinned and walked over to you "Yeah it was quicker than I expected." He then made himself a sandwich and joined you. You chatted for a bit and then played a game on the Xbox, like the kids you were. Afterwards it was about 4:30 and Bucky turned to you after turning the Xbox off. He glanced at his watch and said "I'll be back in a moment then he dashed up the stairs and left you in the living room. You shrugged to yourself and went to the kitchen to grab a drink before Bucky came running back downstairs. "What do you want-" you were cut off by Bucky shushing you. "You've got about 2 and a half hours to get ready. Now go upstairs to our bedroom and I'll be waiting." Ignoring your onslaught of questions, Bucky stepped forward and placed a blindfold over your eyes.
Then he put his hands on your shoulders and pushed you forwards, still ignoring you. You reached the bottom of the stairs and Bucky's arms left your shoulders. Suddenly you were picked up and carried up the stairs in Bucky's arms. "Bucky! What are you doing?!" He didn't reply. Then he placed you back on your feet and led you forward. Finally he stopped and pulled the blindfold off; you were stood in your en suite. "What is going on? And what's with the blindfold?" Bucky smiled "I couldn't let you see in the bedroom and if I tried to persuade you to put in on I would have had to explain everything and that takes too long!" He said "Right here is your first instruction! Follow it! Bye!" Then he left the bathroom "Wait Bucky!" His head popped back in "What's going on?" He smiled "Just humour me?" You shook your head smiling and agreed. Bucky then left and you turned to the note he had handed you.
'Dearest Clara,
Tonight I am taking you out on a surprise date! If you follow each of these notes then you will find an assortment of things to assist you while getting ready. Each note will have an instruction on it along with a memory of our relationship. Once you have completed the instruction, look on the back of the note for the location of the next one!
Bucky'
You grinned at his plan and checked the back of the note
'Shower'
You skipped over to the shower and looked inside, spotting the note.
'Dearest Clara,
In the shower you will find all your favourite (according to Natasha) shower things. Use them and do all your feminine thingies before moving on.
Do you remember when I walked in on you in the shower that one time? If I remember rightly it led to our first time...
Bucky'
Recalling the memory, you blushed while getting in the shower. You did all your 'feminine thingies' and used the lovely shower toiletries. Then you jumped out, wrapped a towel around your head and body before checking the back of the note.
'Dressing table'
Due to restricted space in the bedroom, your dressing table was in the bathroom as it was a large en suite. You walked over to it and spotted the note easily.
'Dearest Clara,
With the help of your female friends, I have bought you new make up; which I am assured is your favourite! You will also find the new hairdryer you really wanted. Use them to do whatever you do and follow the notes.
Do you remember when I hid all your makeup for three days and you got really angry? But I kept it hidden until you left the house with no makeup on! You still don't need it but I know you'll want to wear it to for tonight. Just remember you are gorgeous without it...
Bucky'
You smiled at the memory and thought about how stubborn Bucky was. You quickly dried your hair and put on your makeup, loving all the new stuff. The back of the note simply said
'Bed'
You left the bathroom and went into the bedroom. You held back a gasp, there were candles everywhere and the lights were off. On the floor was a trail of rose petals leading from the bathroom to the bed and then to the wardrobe. You felt your eyes water; this was all so romantic. Walking over the bed in a towel you spotted the note laying on the bed; next to a Victoria's Secret bag.
'Dearest Clara,
Inside the recognisable bag you will find something that I picked out, without anyone else's help. Put it on and just carry on with the path.
Do you remember when we lay on this bed and just watched films for 3 days because you were ill? I'm still convinced you ate all the ice cream and hid it from me...
Bucky'
You giggled at his note and opened the bag, pulling out what was inside. It was a new bra and panties set that were very... attractive. Rolling your eyes at his antics you put the underwear on. You have to admit it did look good. You looked at the back of the note
'Wardrobe'
You followed the trail of rose petals to the wardrobe and pulled the note off the door.
'Dearest Clara,
Inside you will find a new outfit, this time picked out by me and your friends together. The outfit consists of a dress, shoes, earrings and a bracelet. I think you used to have a dress just like it, back in the 40's. I hope you like it.
Do you remember when we were really bored so we chose stupid outfits for each other and did blindfolded makeovers because we were bored? You looked like such an idiot...
Bucky'
Excited at the prospect of a new outfit you swung the door open.There was, like Bucky had said, a light blue 40's dress, high heels, and a set of jewellery . You pulled it all out and quickly dressed before checking yourself in the mirror. You did look good, on both layers of clothing. Then you checked the back of the note and it said
'Door'
Then you walked over to the door, puzzled about what the next step is. You pulled the note of the door and read it.
'Dearest Clara,
You've now come to the end of your little trail. Once you've finished reading the note open the door straight away. You are breathtakingly beautiful, funny, smart and I am so glad that you were there to help me after Hydra. Back in the 30's and 40's before the war, we were still together and it was an amazing relationship! After the war we lost each other but I know that I will never let you go from now. I'm sorry about this morning but I had to go and talk to Steve about something I needed his blessing for. Remember to open the door.
Do you remember when I made that trail and then you opened the door and I asked that question...'
This time he didn't sign off and you were tearing up even more. You took a deep breath and opened the door. There, knelt down on one knee, was Bucky with an open ring box in his hands. In the ring, on top of the ring, was another little note saying
'Will you marry me?
Bucky'
You gasped and dropped the note "Oh my god! Yes!" He grinned and jumped up, slipped the ring on and hugged you tightly. You kissed him and wiped away your tears. "That's where you were! You asked Steve for his blessing to propose?" He nodded and you spotted a single tear in his eye. You grinned and wiped it away for him, he looked a little embarrassed. "This was.. amazing." You said gesturing to your room behind you. He smiled and looked down "So are we going out tonight then?" You asked cheekily. "Yes we are going out to a 40's diner for dinner." Then Bucky laughed and pulled you into another hug.
