You woke to a small ray of light beaming through a gap in your curtains and blinked a few times, your eyes still not used to the darkness surrounding you. You sat up and looked around the room that you were now calling home.

At the foot of your bed sat a desk with a few plates scattered over it from the meals you had eaten in your bedroom, to your left was the window, your right a wardrobe neatly closed with clothes neatly inside. Your bed soft underneath you. The door to your bathroom slightly ajar but you had turned the light off so couldn't see inside.

You took  a big breath in through your nose, trying to wake yourself up a bit more. It smelt stale and like... toast?

You flicked your legs over the side of the bed and turned on the lamp next to you. You didn't have to move the duvet as you had slept on top, feeling uncomfortable having something covering you; it always felt as if you were suffocating.

You stood up and walked over to a desk. On top was a little white box. You placed your hands on top of the desk and leaned down, pressing yourself onto your hands as you tried to wake up more; you had found out recently that you were not a morning person

Good morning Y/N. How are you today?

You jumped at the soft voice with an Irish twang coming from the box, again. Like you did every time she spoke since you arrived at the compound. "I wish you didn't do that FRIDAY. I've asked you a number of times not to just turn up."

I am sorry ma'am. Mr Stark wanted to make sure you were OK.

"Of course he did." You sigh. "Where is he?" You took in a deep breath, running your fingers through your knotty hair before letting your lungs deflate.

Mr Stark is in the control room with breakfast. Would you like me to notify him on your pending arrival?

"Please. I'll just change first." You looked down to your oversized shirt that only covered half your ass.

Of course.

You stood there for a few more minutes until you were sure FRIDAY had gone; it always freaked you out that a computer was listening in.

You found it uncomfortable changing, as if she could see you. And in all honesty, you were unsure if she could.

You looked around the room as you changed, making sure there were no cameras hiding in corners or behind something. The same thing you did every morning and night. Just in case.

You changed out of the oversized t-shirt you had been wearing to bed since you arrived and into a black sports bra and leggings, not really bothering with much else in your wardrobe.

As you put your trainers on you looked up in to the full length mirror to the side of you. You sat up and looked at the marks. Small scars and cuts all the way up your side ad over your stomach. You turned slightly to see a small scatter on your back. Some were old, some were new. All were not borrowed. And a couple blue....

You sighed, jumping up and opening your wardrobe again to find the black hoodie that comforted you and calmed you down. You threw it on and made your way out your room as you tied your hair up into a messy bun, just to keep it out of your face.

Walking the white corridors you looked around everywhere you went. Around every turn, down the staircases and up them, and even above and below decks.

Corridors ran everywhere with various doors until the main entrance which was fully open so you could see the floors above and below. It made you rather nervous. Like you were at a hospital, all so clinical and new.

You were on the fourth floor and made your way to the control room on the same floor. Glass walled offices lined the walkway before you came to the main room where you could already see Tony looking at all the monitors, tapping various things.

You knocked on the glass wall before walking a few more steps to the open door, "Tony." You said bluntly to his back.

"Toast?" He put simply, turning around and pointing to the table laid with toast, jams, muffins and other pastries, and a big jug of orange juice. So that's why you could smell toast.

"I'm good." You sighed again, putting your hands into the hoodie pocket and bouncing on your feet, truly uncomfortable and wanting to leave. "Sooo.....?"

Tony looked you up and down, "how are you feeling?" He smiled weakly.

He always did this when you felt uncomfortable, trying to make you feel secure when he only ever made you feel afraid before. He was trying to make up for the times he had made you feel that way, make you his friend. But you were cautious with him.... With most of them.

"Fine." You put simply, not wanting to divulge too much. There was only one person you would talk to, and it wasn't him.

"You don't sound fine." Tony frowned, pushing a subject you didn't want to talk about.

"I'm fine, Tony. Peachy." You let out a strained smile, trying to make him believe it... of course you weren't. You never will be.

"Bruce wants to run some tests if you're up for it." He moved over to the table and sat down, "please sit. Eat."

"I'm good." You repeated your earlier statement and remained standing, turning on your heel to follow him as he sat.

"Well, OK." Tony sighed himself and leaned on the table, "So, Bruce?"

You sighed, rolling your eyes at the constant nagging of seeing Bruce. You didn't want to go see him and have more tests run on you. After everything that had happened, you'd be glad if you never saw another needle again in your life.

But you knew it had to be done. These were the good guys after all. They would only ever try help you, to protect you.

You let out a small, quiet mumble, "If he has to."

"Or you could just tell us."

"There are some things that even I don't know." You whispered, looking down to the floor and shuffling your feet.

It was quiet between the two of you for a moment. You refused to look up but could feel Tony's eyes burning into you.

Even though he was one of the good guys, you just still didn't trust him completely. Not after everything he and done. He broke promises. Hurt you. And now you were suppose to just listen to him? Do what he wanted?

"OK." He hit his hands on the table top causing you to jump. The chair scrapped and you looked over to him, "Bruce will want to see you at 10am. But first," he picked up a piece of toast and took a bite, "Eat."

You wondered back out the room, watching people in the offices pressing buttons and typing on computers, wondering why you couldn't be one of those people instead; helpful, but a faceless nobody.

You hated as you walked through the corridors that people stared. Everyone had heard of you, and everyone wanted to know your story. Including you. People would whisper as you passed, 'that's the girl they were on about. Just out of nowhere!'

You made it to the main entrance, looking around you as you went. You turned to look behind when you walked straight into someone.

You stumbled nearly falling backwards, but strong arms wrapped around your waist before you managed to fall on your ass.

"Woah, Y/N." a familiar voice came from the body.

You looked up to see the beautiful blue eyes and strong jaw of none other than Steve Rogers. The beautiful specimen of a man. Captain America himself. A Greek God. The wonderful....you catch my drift.

"Oh, sorry. Guess I'm not as good as watching where I'm going as I thought." You stumbled out, blushing and holding onto his biceps, feeling the muscle tense underneath your grip, not really noticing what you were doing...

"Obviously not." He laughed lightly, causing a small smile to appear on his amazing plump lips.

You then noticed his arms were still around your waist, holding onto you but not holding you up anymore. And then you noticed where your hands were.

You cleared your throat, blushing slightly, and gently pushed your way out of his grip, "Thanks. I'll, erm, see you around, Rogers."

You blushed and walked off in the direction of the kitchen, not looking back to him while passing more people running around and doing whatever it is they were suppose to be doing for the Avengers.

Making it to the kitchen, you opened the fridge and looked at all the food in the shelves; cheese, chicken, pasta, so much to choose from but there was nothing you really wanted.

"I could make you some eggs."

You turned to see beautiful Bucky smiling from the doorway.

You smiled back, "I'm not in the mood." You closed the fridge door and leaned on the breakfast bar between the two of you.

Bucky was a good one. He was your safe place in this mad building. The one person who never pushed you to do anything, who seemed to understand that you would comply and work with them all when you were ready.

Trust needed to be built first, and the rest of the team were not putting their bricks on.

"I could try get you some Captain America eggs." Bucky moved to the other side of the breakfast bar and leaned on it in front of you.

"Captain America eggs?" You quizzed, looking at him confused. Bucky nodded. "How do you make them?"

"Well first, you and Steve need to be naked..." Buckys lips curled into a smirk before a full blown smile. His chest jiggling as he held in his laughter.

"Oh wow. You're disgusting." You walked away and over to the cupboard to get a glass for some water.

"The joke was there and I took it." Bucky continued to laugh. "Oh come on, tell me I'm lying? Please, go on. Tell me you don't like him." He got up and walked over to you.

"I don't like Rogers."

You lied. A big fat lie.

Bucky looked at you, cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow.

"I like him like I like you. He's a friend. But I don't like him." You turned around to get your water.

"You don't like anyone like me." Bucky smirked and wrapped his metal arm around your shoulders, pulling you into him.

It took him a couple of days to truly trust himself using his metal arm with you; he was never sure if he was grabbing hold too tight or even if you wanted him to. You finally told him that it meant the world to you that he'd touch you with that arm. He was so insecure about it that he always hid it under long sleeves whenever he could. But you loved seeing it, remembering his story that he once told you. He was such a strong person. And you loved him for that.

"You're more tolerable than the others." You put the glass down and grabbed his arm, falling into his chest where you felt safest.

It always comforted you when he did this. You felt so safe with him m, which was strange; no one ever made you feel safe. But when you arrived at the compound Bucky was the only one that calmed you down. He was the only one that seemed to understand.
